Off to Endo tomorrow to see what they say, I was wondering if anybody is taking Carbimazole with HRT. Had complete hysterectomy last year so taking HRT and just wondering if this has anything to do with my over active thyroid, a few people spoke to know of women who have had hysterectomy and gone on to have OA thyroid.
View 1 RepliesI have been on Carbimazole for only about a month and have started to gain weight. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at Easter and am seeing the endocrinologist tomorrow. I am coming off the stuff as I'd rather be dead than fat and will tell him that. I'm 51 and work in the media. Weight gain could cause me to lose my job and it's just out of the question to be overweight. People in my industry are being made redundant everyday and my job is really at risk.
View 2 RepliesI started on carbimazole about 3 weeks ago after being diagnosed with an overactive thyroid. I was ok at first, but have now developed a bad throat (not sore as such, but dry and tickly - very irritating). The meds say that you should see your doctor immediately if you get these symptoms, so I am now also on antibiotics which don't seem to be helping. I'm also quite achy, and even climbing a flight of stairs seems to take a lot of effort. Should I be worried?
It's all very annoying as I have taken such good care of myself recently, losing 2 and 1/2 stone and eating really well. All in preparation for trying to get pregnant, and I'm now unsure how well that is going to go. I know overactive can affect your fertility, but I don't know how all the drugs will have an effect (or be harmful if I do get pregnant). Unfortunately, the doctor appears to be completely disregarding this aspect of my life and is not offering any advice. Still waiting to see the specialist - maybe he/she will be more helpful.
I'm also concerned I spend 18 months on this drug and it doesn't help. Wouldn't I be better getting the radioiodine and putting off trying to get pregnant for 6 months to a year since at least I will have some certainty over the outcome of the radio?
I've had mild acne for a few years now but it never used to bother me as using dermalogica would clear up outbreaks. Since I started taking Levothyroxine and Carbimazole my spots just don't seem to go away. They're just small red bumps with no pus and it's driving me crazy.
It's killing my confidence. I have a noticeable goitre and now these constant spots on my face. Has anyone else had this problem with thyroid medication?
Only been diagnosed for a few weeks now and sorry if this question has been asked before but my hair's falling out in clumps now and wondered if this is 'normal' on this drug it is completely heartbreaking for me also I am due to get my hair dyed next weekend worried this will cause more loss ...

I read in the leaflet that came with it if you got sore throat STOP taking the tablets and see your doctor, what I would like to know is how bad must the sore throat be to stop taking the tablets? Can anyone tell me before I rang my GP.
View 22 RepliesCan anyone please help I was diagnosed with over active thyroid last August I only started taking one 5mg tablet that did nothing I'm now on three and having regular blood tests as I've been told I need to have the thyroid taken out but I see a lot of people are on a much higher dose and I can't have the op in till my bloods are normal but nothing seems to be happening and the tablets I take makes me fell worse
View 3 RepliesI have today been diagnosed for the 2nd time with an overactive thyroid.
The first was about 6 years ago and I was put on 25mg of Carbimazole a day. Unfortunately my weight went from a 12 1/2S to 16st once I started the tablets. I took the decision to stop them as I suffered from some of the side effects and my white blood cells were being affected. Since stopping the tablets my weight has gone down (from 16st to 9st) and people say I look great.
I have been told today that I should restart the tablets as my T4 is now instead of the norm of 10 to 25 gone up to 70. I am worried that if I start the tablets my weight will go up very quickly. I have all the symptoms, shaking hands, lump in the throat, can't stand heat etc.
Having been in this situation before I am very worried and not sure what to do even thought I have told my doc my concerns re weight gain.
My Neo Mercazole has been changed by my pharmacist to a generic form of Carbimazole and I have been having more palpitations on this new medication.Has anyone else had this problem.I know that they are supposed to have the same quality but I certainly don't feel that they work as well.

View 14 RepliesThis is my second time on carbimazole, my first was about four months after the birth of my son, i had the racing heart and heat intolerance and other symptoms but mostly of underactive thyroid and i too gain two, three stone. My doctor did more bloods and my levels had returned to normal so my doctor took me off them. Recently I've been feeling quite unwell so decided to go docs for bloods and was quite shocked to find my thyroid had gone overactive again but all my symptoms point to underactive thyroid, feeling exhausted, aching muscles, one and a half stone weight gain, my doctor has never known anyone put weight on, which i thinks is the worst problem after losing three stone I'm almost back to square one again, an really fed up with it an feeling so shattered aren't we meant to be full of life. My doctors not the best and not very helpful just told me i would stay on them a lot longer as I'd had it before, do people stay on them for life or can the carbimazole correct it for good, don't have much info on overactive thyroid.
View 1 RepliesI was diagnosed with overactive thyroid just over a month ago-after a few days I had a sore throat-stopped the drug and went to doctor whos said my sore throat was nothing to worry about-no temperature and did a blood test ok and went back on the tablets. I have another sore throat-my appointment with the Consultant isn't until April 17th-what should I do? previous message on this subject are quite old?how bad a sore throat does it have to be before seaking an urgent appointment?
View 10 RepliesI have been on these Carbimazole for overactive thyroid drugs for 5 weeks 10mg i am having painful cramps my body,leg arms and across my right chest is this the drug doing this
it is so painful i thought it was a heart attack as my area was so painful
it does pass eventually but scary, by the way i am too putting on the weight.
I am into my third week of this treatment and today I am feeling really sick. I noticed a slight rash on my hands. I think I actually felt better taking nothing! Anyone else have problems taking carbimazole? Does it pass?
View 1 RepliesAbout 3 months ago i was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism a irregular heartbeat and was stuck on warfarin carbimazole and heart tabs i had a heart rate of 197 bpm and this all was only found by a routine medical cause i was sweating so bad anyway i was stuck on 180mg of carbimazole all seemed well until i noticed i was gaining quite a lot of weight 15kilos to be precise managed to get in to see dp and he lowered it to 6omg a day as im hoping i have my radioactive iodine soon but since i been on 60mg a day i have good days and bad days i am still working but when this sicky feeling comes it renders me useless and end up not going to work im 37 years old very fit as work as a lead roofer but am at end of my patience with this shit

View 1 RepliesI have just been diagnosed with graves disease (and overactive thyroid as a result) and prescribed 3 5mg carbimazole pills a day whilst i wait to see a specialist and have an ECG so i can also be prescribed beta blockers.
My doctor said to take all 3 pills at once but i have read that the effects don't last 24 hours and its better to spread them through the day. Does anyone else take 15mg and do you take them all at once or spread out? In your experience when is the best time(s) of day to take them?
I was diagnosed yesterday with overactive thyroid and given Carbimazole 15mg until I get appointment to see endocrinologist. Feel very sick today, is this normal. What is the normal T4 level supposed to be, gp didnt tell me only said mine was 26. Looking at some of comments does everyone put on weight when taking these tablets.

Can anyone tell me how long it will take for shakes to go and the general
of being unwell. I am now on 5mg twice a day, I was on 20mg, but my body shakes and tremors got lot worse. I am also on 10mg of Propranolol.
I was diagnosed with overactive thyroid and have been taking 10mg of Carbimazole for approximately 4 weeks, however nothing seems to have changed i still have all symptoms! Do you think i need a higher dose or am i being impatient and eventually symptoms will subside i know it takes a few weeks for meds to work? I also take 40mg of propranolol so that has stopped racing heart palpitations etc! The tiredness is overwhelming i have slept most of Christmas.
View 3 RepliesI've just started taking carbimazole and Citalopram and wondered if there is anyone else taking these meds together please? The Citalopram is for anxiety caused by the hyperthyroidism. Has anyone else been in the same position and have you found they've helped or have you had any side effects?
I take my meds at night before I go to bed. So far, I've had a terrible headache and when I get up in the morning I feel almost 'spaced' out and really groggy but nothing major and I'm hoping these will pass once my body gets used to it?
