COPD :: Coughing Up Blood For 2 Months

As I've said in previous posts been diagnosed with non allergic rhinitis... I KNOW I'm allergic to something! Feb to Sept mucus green or yellow and severe cough every year resulting in laryngitis for 6 weeks each time. Anyway.... this year things have taken a turn and I have now been coughing up blood for the past 2 months mainly at night time. Sometimes fresh blood but mostly in green phlegm. I'm having a second chest CT scan tomorrow including abdomen and pelvis as first scan showed query scarring and infection. Should get the results tomorrow afternoon. Obviously scared. Coughing up blood has nasty indications, but I am pretty sure it's to do with this rhinitis...

Herpes :: Initial Episode

I have most of the symptoms except flu and headaches, I'm on medication but just waiting for test results. I was just wondering how long does it take for the blisters to appear then turn into ulcers, then the time frame until they pop, and scab over?? So I have a rough idea if what is happening down there is normal or should I see a dr again.

Is salt baths, keeping it dry and weeing in water the only remedies to help?

I also have a white liquid discharge that likes to come out of my vagina is this normal?

Can you still have oral sex because I've read you don't really know when you're shedding?

And it can only be transferred skin to skin or if someone touches used underwear or damp towel?

Supraventricular Tachycardia :: Ablation After Just One Episode Of SVT?

Hi, my eleven year old son has been diagnosed with SVT. He has had one attack, over a month ago, that lasted over an hour and resulted in a trip to the ER. We were referred to a cardiologist who recommends ablation. I am worried about the risks of the procedure versus the risks of just waiting it out, seeing how frequent and/or severe his attacks become.

Gout First Episode - Apply Heat, Cold Or Both?

I've had this nasty gout episode for four days now and I am reading conflicting information, perhaps a few of you with some experience can help. First, is it better to apply heat, cold or both? Second, will walking around and staying active even through the pain make it worse, better or stay the same? Third, is there any prescription out there that works without any nasty side effects? And lastly, knowing that I have gout, is it really necessary to see a doctor?

Heart :: First Episode Of Atrial Fibrillation - Overmedicated?

I'm a 51 y.o. female. I had my first (and hopefully only) episode of atrial fibrillation 2 1/2 days ago, very early Monday morning. I had my husband take me to the ER where I was diagnosed, then admitted for treatment. I was given calcium channel blockers, and I converted back to sinus rhythm about 3 hours later. I was also given a shot of a blood thinner. Upon discharge, I was given prescriptions for baby aspirin (81 mg 1x day), and 50 mg metoprolol (a beta blocker) 2x day and told that I would probably be on the meds for 3+ months at least.

Before I continue, here is some more about my overall condition. I am generally in v. good health. I am 5' 6" and weigh 116 lbs. I do not smoke, or drink alcohol or consume caffeine in any form. At a minimum, I walk briskly for about 1 hour a day; but I also add between 10-30 minutes of more intense aerobic exercise 3x a week. I have a low stress lifestyle -- retired early, no financial concerns, great marriage, lots of friends, love my life.

My blood pressure when tested in the ER was 117/70; all the tests came back normal. Lipids: Cholesterol 143; HDL 57; LDL 76. Thyroid -- on the high side of normal, but still w/i normal range.

My pulse rate (with the beta blockers) is currently 68 and my blood pressure is 100/70.

Anyway, about 3 weeks ago, I suffered sudden sensorineural hearing loss in one ear and was put on an 18 day high dose, tapering course of Prednisone. My attack of atrial fibrillation occurred about 3 hours after what would have been my next dose of Prednisone, but wasn't because I had finished the course. So, in my mind, it is highly likely that this attack was precipitated by Prednisone withdrawal. Too much of a coincidence otherwise, no? My cardiologist agreed that it was likely, but still thought I should be on beta blockers at least medium term.

But here's the thing. I am just not doing well on the beta blockers. I feel like sh*t. I actually feel worse than when I was in a fib. I am so tired and I cannot focus on anything. I feel basically like a nonfunctional zombie. How on earth can I live like this for 3 months? Why should I?

I realize you shouldn't just stop beta blockers cold turkey. But I am going to see the cardiologist on Friday and I am just going to beg him to help me get off them and not put me on anymore more meds at all (except maybe the baby aspirin I can deal with).

Does this make sense to those who know about a fib? Yes, if I keep having episodes, it makes sense to help get medication for them. But for crying out loud, I just had one episode in usual circumstances. Couldn't I just wait and see if I have more so I don't have to spend 3 months as a vegetable?

Lansoprazole :: Take 30 To 60 Minutes Before Food

The pharmacy instructions on my daughter`s Lansoprazole tablets say `Take 30 to 60 minutes before food`. Does this mean she ought to have something to eat within 60 minutes of taking the tablets or that, although she must wait for at least 30 minutes before eating, it would be better to wait for 60 minutes?

Pregnant? Boyfriend Pulled Out About 5 Minutes Before He Came

Boyfriend pulled out about 5 minutes before he came, I had my period two weeks later as normal but a few days ago (2 weeks or so after my period) my stomach started cramping up and it's looking bigger. Is this just because I've been eating more or is pregnancy more likely?

Took 15 Minutes - No Sedation For Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

This evening I went for my flexible sigmoidoscopy & to say I was terrified was an understatement. I did not eat all day just in case I opted for sedation. On arrival the nurse showed me to my room & could see how nervous I was & she was so lovely & talked me through the procedure & said she really didn't think I would need sedation. I decided to go ahead without sedation & can honestly say this was the right decision. I could feel the air being put into my colon & the did have some slight pain very near the end of the procedure but it was bearable & I am quite a wimp. The worst part for me was when it was all over & I had wind but this only lasted for approx an hour. I am extremely lucky as there was nothing wrong which I am very happy about & the peace of mind is such a huge relief. I would certainly recommend having this procedure if you have any concerns. The whole thing lasted approx 15 mins.

Trimethoprim :: Vomiting And Shaking Within 10 Minutes

My wife had a bladder infection (the second within a month) and was prescribed a 7 day course of trimethoprim. On the 7th day (having taken the last tablet) she began vomiting and shaking - within 10 minutes of this starting she become disorientated and lost her memory. She was immediately hospitalised and given a MRI scan of her brain plus various blood and urine tests but all tests proved negative. For 24 hours she suffered from extreme short term memory lose. She could not remember events that had happened just 10 seconds before hand. Very scary. I have found this web site on the second day and am relieved to see she is not alone and that the events she is experiencing are probably related to trimethoprim. 36 hours later she is still bed bound (now back at home) and has a bad headache and hot/cold sweats, neck pain and diarrhoea. Sleep seems to be the best aid but she is finding it difficult to sleep as her brain is a hive of activity trying to reconstruct the lost bits. The only drug she is now willing to take is paracetamol which helps a little. Thankfully her short term memory is now working again. How this drug has obtained a licence is a question that needs to be asked

Menopause :: Intense Hot Flashes Every 20-30 Minutes

I am 56 years old and have had hot flashes for about a year but for the past months they have been intense every 20-30 minutes and am going crazy. I am soaking wet and cannot sleep due to these episodes. I took I-Cool and it worked for awhile then just stopped working. I tried it again for 3+ months and it just didn't work again for me. I have been prescribed Gabapentin which doesn't help. So now I am trying Extra Strength Estroven (1 per day) and Black Cohosh (2 per day) and have been taking them for 5 days now with no relief yet. This is so debilitating as I don't go out much and cannot wear much in the way of clothing or even shoes as I get sooooo hot and sweaty.

Throat :: Can't Breath And Coughing On Wake Up

This has happened quite a few times over the years and have been to the doctors but they do not do anything. i don't know if it's allergies or what it is. i am completely asleep, sometimes i dream i am drowning or can't breath, but don't know if that is actually because i can't breath and have this sort of dream or whatever it is. i suddenly wake up, realise i cannot breath no air, totally blocked in my chest that's what it feels like.  it feels like i have not breathed in ages.  so desperately trying to breath get air in, eventually after several minutes air goes in, but at same time i have started coughing and coughing whilst trying to get air in.  then also this happens each time i seem to produced something thick down the back of my throat, its like a river and have to keep swallowing otherwise it will choke me, so choking with this thick stuff (which has no taste and going down the back of my throat), and coughing as its blocking my airway, after a long time it settles down. has anyone got these symptoms?  what is it?  then i could go to the doctors and say hey this is what someone else has had.  It is so frightening each time it happens and it only happens when i am asleep. can some please help with their views or shared experiences, there must be others out there with such a problem.i am 48 year old woman on thyroxine for 9 years for underactive thyroid, take 180mg of telfast allergy tablet a day for urticaria (itchy rash, hives) and take nasal spray twice a day for rhinitis.

Trouble Breathing :: No Coughing And Wheezing

The other day, I checked myself into the hospital because I was having difficulties breathing and a slight chest pain. The doctors ran a plethora of tests, including an EKG, MRI, and X-Rays. All of the tests, according to the doctor, came back "100% normal". The ER staff said there were no signs of anything serious and it should pass. Perhaps it's a muscle being weird or something?

The chest pain is mostly gone but breathing is still a challenge. It's difficult to take a FULL breath. No coughing. No wheezing. Anybody ever experienced this? The other day I went to the grocery store and I was winded afterwards. It does not seem right.

I'm going to see the doctor for a follow up on Monday, and I'm monitoring the situation closely. Are there breathing tests they can have me do? It seems like cardiac-wise everything is fine, but something is still up. I know to go to the ER if it gets too bad, but I'm curious if anybody has seen / heard / experienced something like this.
