View 2 RepliesIm 22 and have suffered from severe constipation since puberty. I've been to doctors and tried metamucil, coloxyl, movicol, oral laxatives etc etc etc i have a high fibre diet, I'm active and i drink enough water. my constipation comes with the typical bloating and pain but also a feeling as though I am trying to digest hundreds of little needles. The only thing i have found to offer some reprieve is dulcolax suppositories. As unpleasant as they are they do soften enough so I can pass the initial blockage but nothing else. my first doctor refused to believe me until he sent me for an X-ray and seen that I was blocked up the wazoo. My second doctor handed me a referral to a dietician even tho I wanted to see a gastro specialist. I'm aware I'll have to see a specialist in the near future I was just wondering if anyone else has/is experiencing the same problem. when I say sever constipation I'm talking 3 weeks usually before I start to lose my marbles and opt for a suppository.
View 2 RepliesI have constipation and do not fart at all I have acidic stomach as well when I get constipated I fell left lower back pain.
View 1 RepliesI have just joined this forum, but been reading it for a while. I have had no surgery yet, don't even know if it will be offered, but am already suffering from many of the problems mentioned in this thread. I have a large rectocele and a large rectum. Consultant not sure what to do- proctogram inconclusive. Since I saw the consultant a couple of weeks ago, things seem to have got dramatically worse- needing more Movicol. Also tried a suppository today.Rectal pain and numbness. The consultant may examine me under anaesthetic. I also have another problem which is complicating everything- venous insufficiency- like varicose veins- have to wear compression stockings all the time and elevate my feet as much as possible. I am convinced it was caused by straining on the loo, so from what you are all saying, there is no guarantee that surgery would prevent straining.I just don't know what to do. Surgery sounds so risky, but I can't live like this. I could try Peristeen I suppose, if they thought it suitable for me. Might also try the Milk of magnesia if I can get my hands on it.
View 7 RepliesI'm 31, male, and up until monday i hadn't had the urge to poop. Finally when it came on monday night it was much to big and was hurting very badly when trying to push it out.
Since then i have tried everything. Suppositories, stool softener in pill form, miralax, and now my anus is extremely sore and hurts and im getting stomach pain and it hurts to sit down because of all the pressure in my colon.
I also did try using a medical glove and vaseline and breaking it apart. Got some out but it's still in there.
At this point i don't know what else there is to do. Should i go to the er? I'm feeling that's the only option left.
I have had IBS for 20 years, and have been treating it with fiber therapy pretty successfully. In the last few months, i've had some odd bowel movements. the first one i noticed was long and thin and tough, like an elastic. i thought tapeworm, but my stool tested negative for worms. i can't explain it, but after wiping and checking it flings itself off the toilet paper a fair distance. I'm afraid to ask my doctor because he scoffed at me when i told him that i thought i had worms. i had a colonoscopy for my 50th birthday in august and everything checked out. Any idea as to what's happening?
View 1 RepliesI began to develop abdominal pain following a course of antibiotics prescribed for an overactive gland back in October last year. Since then my condition has worsened to the point where I experience lower abdominal pain on a daily basis. Often the pain can be present all day and I can find no way to relieve it. The only other symptom I have is occasional bloating, but no constipation or diarrhoea (always been regular and that hasn't changed). My health in general is very good and I exercise regularly (swimming and running).
At first I was prescribed Mebeverine but I found it had very little effect. I have had numerous blood tests, a urine test, and also an ultrasound, all of which were clear.
Around 8 weeks ago I was referred to a specialist gastroenterologist and my appointment is in 3 weeks from now. 2 weeks ago I visited my GP again because I was experiencing an unusually degree of pain. She said she would expedite my appointment with the specialist, however this is something she has been unable to fulfil, in part due to bad communication between them and the gastroenterology department and also due to the fact the specialist only works two days a week.
At this point I haven't been diagnosed as having anything specific, and If I'm honest I kind of feel like I've been hung out to dry by my GP whose answer on most occasions has been to wait and see, which suggests they aren't taking it very seriously.
My question really is, is it possible to suffer from IBS but only experience abdominal pain and bloating?
Bad stomach ache for 1 week can't eat when I do tummy hurts worse this morning I had a really black stool.
View 1 RepliesHad colostomy surgery, etc * see above *
Is it normal to develop I.B.S. after these kinds of surgery. It have been going on for around 4 years now.
i have upper right abdominal pain, lower back pain, bouts of watery diarrhea 3-4 times a day, and am constantly wiped out and exhausted. all tests have come back normal( ultrasound, blood, mono)i'm still being examined, but wondered if you had any ideas?
last year i suffered with lymes*(most likely but not definite)or a super virus and was pretty much a potato for a month, but the new pain has been going on for over 3 months.
My husband has been suffering from lower left pain and tenderness in his abdominal area. He also has loose stool and a lot of the time feels like he needs to go, but can't. Cramping included. He randomly feels nauseous. His pain is also cause with eating, so he avoids eating big portions. He does eat yogurt, one cup a night. It sometimes helps. He has had a colonoscopy done and it was clean. Heartburn is also included, he takes rolaids every night. I just wish I could help him. I hate seeing him in pain! What is wrong with him?
View 1 RepliesI'm experiencing some pretty intense abdominal pain and cramping. It began on Sunday, I woke up to these intense cramps (which I can only compare to what I assume contractions feel like), they are bad enough to make me stop whatever I'm doing and have to keel over. They last maybe 30 seconds and they go away. Yesterday, I woke up with the cold sweats, I was clammy, a fever, body aches, still had those cramps, I had pretty bad diarrhea, although I felt like I wasn't...getting it all out. I also don't have much of an appetite.
Is it possible to have diarrhea and constipation at the same time? It's also worth mentioning that a few weeks ago, I decided to continue taking my birth control rather than stopping for the week to get my period, so that I would not have it on a trip I was going on. Could that affect my body this way?
Today I'm feeling a little better, still getting the cramps, I'm trying to drink as much water as possible. I still have diarrhea every time I go to the bathroom, but still I get the sensation that I'm not getting everything out of there. I'm not as clammy and sweaty as yesterday, but I still am a little bit. No body aches though.
I'm 18 years old... turning 19 next month. The last time I had a successful, healthy BM was on Sunday... about 5 days ago. Prior to the BM on Sunday, I didn't really go to the bathroom for about 4 or 5 days. I didn't feel as I have completely emptied myself with that BM per se, but I got a LOT out. More than what I would have when I am regular, going about everyday or every other day. It should have restored me to regularity.
The problem is, I don't have the urge to go to the bathroom... at all. 0 urge to have a BM. The only way I can get anything out (which is like, a quarter sized pebble at a time) is by straining pretty hard. It's so irritating.
I have also been having irregular periods as of late. A few months ago, it was a week late. Now they have been coming early. I feel like I may be on the road to having another early period... Cramps, back pain, and heaviness and bloating.
But because I'm so constipated, I'm much more bloated than what I would be with my normal PMS. The bloating intensifies when I eat. I get so bloated that, I don't really want to eat. I look like I'm about 4 months pregnant. Every time I eat, I get awful, rumbling gas in my stomach as well. I have to position myself a certain way to be able to pass it.
At this point in time, I'm worried that I have an impaction. I've been eating as normally as I could do with the amount of money I have to buy food with, aka buying fruit smoothies, eating whole grain bread, limiting junk food and sweets, drinking LOTS of water every day... maybe about equivalent to 10 or 11 8 oz glasses per day. I do have one cup of coffee with cream in the morning. Still, nothing.
I took 1 (100 mg) colace pill a day for the past two days. When will the colace work? Will it even work with my condition? Should I try something else, like a suppository? Or should I just go see my doctor and just get advice from them?
I'm a 19 yr old girl and had my gallbladder out 2 years ago, everything I eat seems to disagree with my stomach and is very stressful. I've tried loads of different tablets to help bind it up but it doesn't really work does anyone suggest anything that's helped for them?
View 1 RepliesHas anyone else had IBS since having Gallbladder removed? I have never had IBS but since having my GB removed I seem to have developed IBS. I still get the pain where my GB was and also in the same place on the opposite side of my abdomen and am beginning to wonder why I bothered. It was great having the 4 weeks off work but having the op to get it was not the best way.

View 7 RepliesI have been having bowel problems for almost maybe 9 years, it does my head in and right now, it seems that my faeces are leaking around the impacted faeces into my underwear and I can't control it, I have been constipated for at least 5 days now and it makes me feel like crap. I have been to the doctors and they all prescribed different medications, they worked for a while, but it hasn't helped and now ...
View 3 RepliesI sit and try to have BM and while doing so, my legs go numb from sitting too long. The little I do have them is small and ribbon like. 2 or 3 droppings each time. Stomach hurts all the time. Gassy all day and night. My stomach makes the worst sounds.Thought maybe colon is packed tightly or something. I eat a lot more than I use the bathroom. Maybe do a parasite and colon cleanser?
View 1 RepliesMy grandmother just had a big surgery through which she had removed her ovaries, uterus and part of her gross intestine. Part of her surgery was colostomy.
I know that she now needs a low-fiber diet but I am not sure what can she eat and what not!
What are the worst regular foods for the right now?
What are the good foods?
What kind of tea should she drink?
I'm 17 female and I know it's gross but I'm worried today and yesterday I had light brown stool with black in it the black piece was long I'm scared I have been taken vitamins the past two days but my stomach hurts and nobody will take me to the Dr should I be worried
