Total Knee Replacement Scheduled - Diabetes Type 2 - Any Advice?

All set for my TKR tomorrow - it may sound strange to some people but after such a long wait for this - I am really looking forward to this operation !! I have to be at the hospital at 7am and have been told that I am first on the list as type 2 diabetic - I am not worried about the pain post op as  can be much worse than the pain this knee has dished out so far.  Wish me luck - they are keeping me in for 5 days so will communicate again  next weekend, with some positive comments I hope.

Knee :: Physical Therapy After Partial Knee Replacement

I am 42 yrs old and had a Partial Knee Replacement done on Jan 6th...outpatient...went to first PT the next morning. Wasn't too bad...2nd was a little rougher and I was in more pain. 3rd visit had a different therapist and she pushed me beyond what I thought I was ready for. She basically forced bended my knee and forced straighten it..said it's to keep scar tissues from interfering with recovery...this was extremely painful. I am curious to if this is normal protocol on your 3rd visit of PT..which was 7 days post op...I was in soo much pain I could not go to my next PT. Plus I have bruising on my ankle from her force bending with her body weight...I figured I would go back on Monday when my normal Therapist will be there....I have made progress with bending and straightening and don't think I should be rushed like that...I am still in alot of pain but am able to walk around house without crutches. I have been icing and elevating along with doing my homework PT.

Knee Braces Helpful After Total Knee Replacement

I am a 31 year old female about to have a TKR due to severe arthritis caused by PVNS. Currently I have very weak quads and calves in my bad knee from major loss of knee extension. I've heard that it's really hard to go into replacement surgery with weak muscles. I was wondering if I should get a knee brace for after surgery to help with some support until I get my strength back? Has anyone tried these webbing braces and if so do they help? I know some of the immobilizing braces actually cause atrophy.

Pre Hip Replacement Advice / Tips?

My LTHR had been scheduled for next week. During my pre op session last week the dr remarked that the pains down my left leg may be due to a spine issue, while the groin pain would almost certainly would be due to my bad left hip. He is suggesting that I see his spine colleague before he definitely goes ahead with the hip op.

My question to you hippies: before your hip op did you have pains down your leg(s) including ankle? And (this is the important bit) did the hip op get rid of the leg pains? I am thinking that if your answer is yes to both questions then maybe I should get a second opinion from another surgeon.

Osteoarthritis :: Hip Bursitis And Osteoarthritis Pain

I have been suffering from hip bursitis, both sides, for about a year now.  Two steroid injections into the worst hip haven't helped.  I've been following a physiotherapy course for a month, but am still in pain.  Added to this, I have osteoarthritis in my knees, top of my right foot and both thumbs, all of which are painful at the moment.  I also am feeling very tired and under the weather.  I will be seeing my Orthopaedic Consultant on Wednesday and am wondering what to ask him.  He'll be checking on the hip bursitis, but will he be able to do anything about the arthritis?  More steroid injections?  Should I ask to see a Rheumatologist?  My legs and hips feel very heavy and I'm so tired of feeling like this, with little energy.

Hip Replacement :: Upcoming THR - Advice / Tips?

I am due to have a LTHR on May 11.  Just looking for a support group to join because I'm sure I will have post-op issues that are being or have been discussed here.

I do struggle with anxiety in certain situations and I am concerned about waking up intubated (hope I don't have to), the compression hose (getting them on and off and just the restrictive nature of them), and the risk of being on blood thinners for a month (although I prefer that risk over not taking blood thinners and having a higher risk for blood clots).

I am 47 and have had hip issues since I was in high school - though never diagnosed until two years ago, I had a femoral acetabular impingement that, with diagnosis, could have been repaired years ago and I wouldn't be in this situation now, more than likely.  So, I'm frustrated that this has to happen now but the impingement has caused arthritis, which is now end stage bone on bone so I need to get this done to lessen my pain and increase my mobility.

Walking And Stairs After Total Hip Replacement Advice?

I've had a lot of very useful info from this forum since I joined not so long ago - thank you all very much! I have a couple of questions:

1) Post LTHR op to exercise must I walk outside, or can I walk just inside the house (difficult terrains outside the house)? Has anyone in this situation just walked inside the house and got better?

2) Will I need to move the bed downstairs, or will I be able

to use the stairs? Does the PT practice stairs while still in hospital?

Hip Replacement :: A Right Choice? Experience / Tips / Advice?

I've pondered my own need for a hip replacement. I'm sports mad and always have been, playing competitive squash for 20 years (probably the cause of my hip degeneration), followed by many years of rowing and subsequently cycling - which I still do with a passion. I was diagnosed with arthritis about 6 years ago (at 52) and have lived with it since then. Mine's been odd - I've never had the excruciating pain that most people seem to complain of - pain, yes - but bearable. My main issue has been with a gradual loss of range of movement. At this stage, I can barely tie a shoe on my right foot, putting a sock on is a nightmare - and cutting toe nails on that foot is pretty much impossible. But in the absence of severe pain and being still able to cycle with relatively little discomfort, I've never really known what to do about getting it fixed. That being said, I did decide to do something about it this year - and it looks as if I may actually be going in to get it done next week!! As I'm sure most of you did pre-op, I'm feeling pretty apprehensive - and still questioning whether I'm doing the right thing, even though I know I'm having many more 'bad days' and that the constant lack of a full quality of life is getting me down. So I guess I'm curious as to whether anyone has been in a similar position - and whether all you experienced hippies think I'm doing the right thing.

TMJ - Total Joint Replacement Scheduled - Insight / Advice?

I finally scheduled my total bilateral joint replacement for Jan. 15, 2014. As you can imagine I am very nervous. Just yesterday I had screws removed from my latest surgery on September 13th. Back on September 13th, I was to have undergone a bilateral arthrotomy with fat grafting but unfortunately I had some scary complications and that particular procedure was not done. I ended up having an exploration of the left neck, open reduction and internal fixation of the left mandible, extraoral vertical ramus osteotomy and condylectomy and an open left TMJ arthroplasty. Plus I had a left cranial base bleed which I was sent emergently from the OR to interventional radiology to locate and control and bleed and spent several days on a ventilator in the ICU.

Currently, my bite is so off to the left side that it is not even funny. I look like Rocky from the movie "Rocky" when he is screaming...."Adrianne!!" and his mouth is sort of way off to one side.

Can anyone out there who has had TMJ Concepts joints replaced lend me any guidance or advice? I am unable to chew and have been on a non chewing diet since March and am only able to open my mouth two fingers and talking hurts quite a bit.

I know I am making the right decision for me as I have been dealing with this for years.

Re-replacement Of Same Knee

I am scheduled to have the knee I had replaced 9 years ago in May.  Just wondered if others have had this done and how they are doing.  Have put this off since they told me last year I needed to do it, but pain is enough that I can't do things I enjoy as much.  This time I am working on getting the quads and hams tighter.  Next, watching the diet to lose the 5 pounds I put back on.

Partial Knee Replacement - Yes Or No ?

I am having a partial knee replacement in the next few months but have read quite a lot of articles mostly negative and I am now wondering if I should go ahead with it or just put up!

Im 57 I like to walk each day I wear sensible shoes and have soles in them from the podiatrist to keep my leg aligned. Will I still be able to walk each day once fully recovered and if so how far will distance be restricted?

i have also read that your sleep is very disturbed after this kind of operation is this correct and if so is this forever or just during recovery.

Also very occasionally I wear a heal about 2.5 inches if I go to a function or have a meal out I only have them On for about 4 hours so would this still be possible after a partial knee replacement?

Finally am I right in thinking that have a partial knee replacement leads to a full replacement within a couple of years?
