Anxiety :: Switching From General Physician To Psychiatrist
Jun 4, 2016
After 3 months in therapy, I'm finally seeing a psychiatrist. First of all, anxiety is a b****. General physicians don't make it any easier. I feel like they're always trying to pump you with pills to get you out as quickly as possible. And therapists don't know as much as doctors do about medicine and physical reactions so I've been reluctant to take their suggestion about taking medication. I'm not sure a psychiatrist would be particularly better, but they seem to fit the bill.
I've been dealing with anxiety for 6 months now, and frankly, I've been missing out on so much because of it that now my depression is getting worse. I can't drive anywhere, I can't be left alone, I can't do a lot of things I used to enjoy so much.
I DESPERATELY WANT MY LIFE BACK, but I'm seriously terrified of the side effects. I'm also super sensitive to meds, which makes me believe I'll feel ALL those side effects.
I just need some genuine advice, tough love, real stories, tips, questions I should ask my psychiatrist, ANYTHING!
Should I go on meds? Which worked for you? What side effects did you feel? How long did they last?

I am considering switching from xanax to klonopin for my anxiety panic attacks. Xanax is only effective for a short amount of time and I feel like I may be acquiring a tolerance or addiction. Anyone have any input on klonopin ? Is it a better choice ?

Say my Zoloft pooped out and I increased to 75 with no help in 4 weeks, what should I switch to that will help GAD, panic and possibly some agoraphobia?
One dr. says to try Luvox and just switch out the dosage with no weening.
Then I am thinking switching to Lexapro is there a ween process here?
Or, I am thinking of adding in BuSpar to the Zoloft since it has minimal side effects.

I’ve been on Lorazepam for my anxiety attacks for about half a year now and I’m also on fluoxetine. Lorazepam does help to ease my anxiety enough so I can function fairly normally from day to day, but I still do get occasional anxiety and panic attacks where even Lorazepam barely helps.
I’ve been reading a bit about this and came across info that Xanax is more effective than Lorazepam in fighting anxiety attacks, is this true?

I'm an 18 year old male and i was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder and depersonalization. I feel very depressed and was wondering if i should give the meds a try? right now all i do is drink beer and stay in my room. I had a job at a liquor store but i got fired and they didn't tell me why, and i also lost my first love and after all that happened i turned to alcohol. I can't even go in public without getting very tense and spaced out, like i feel like everyone is watching me and judging me.

Is anybody else afraid of going to the doctor? Adding up my medical visits in 2016, I've had eleven appointments, including testing and lab work, plus my surgery last month. Today, I have to see my GI Doctor and will have a colonoscopy at the end of June. There will not have been a single month in the first six months of this year that I haven't seen a doctor. I feel overwhelmed by it. I always expect the worst now, having gone through so much in a short period of time. I have started exercising again and am working gradually on getting in better shape and wish that would help the anxiety some. I dread seeing doctors now.

So basically I was on microgynon for about 3 years before switching to cerazette as I told the doctors I had headaches from microgynon as I didn't want to have periods anymore (stupid I know). So now I have been on cerazette for about 6 months my bleeding is extremely light however can come at any time. Sometimes for weeks of light bleeding. I now want to swap back to microgynon as I am going on holiday in November and want to ensure I am not bleeding whilst I am there. I am worried that If I switch back I could potentially bleed for a long period of time. My doctor told me to double up on cerazette but I have had other symptoms such as vaginal dryness which is affecting my sex life. If I switch back to microgynon will I bleed for ages or will it just be for a week, I never had problems with this pills before.

I’ve been on Lipitor for over a year now and I feel like like I’ve been putting up with side effects of this medication for far too long. I’ve not been having muscle aches, but I feel like I’m having flu for this whole year I’m on the Lipitor.
My doctor says that as far as statin medication go, Lipitor is one with least side effects and its more potent than simvastatin, but I was on simvastatin before and it didn’t feel as bad as Lipitor does. I guess I can insist that my doctor puts me back on simvastatin, but still, I’m wondering will it be as effective in controlling my cholesterol?

I'm changing from Atenolol to propranolol having had a bit of a reaction to atenolol ( my dosage was increased and I suddenly got tinnitus and vertigo) after 18 months. Has anyone else had to do this? It took me a while to get used to the Atenolol, the thought of going through that again is a bit worrying. Ive read about the side effects ( I suppose I shouldn't have) but I want to start taking them now to get rid of this blooming awful reaction...

I was prescribed Zetia after my regular physical showed I have borderline high cholesterol and Zetia was supposed to bring it back down to normal range. However, that did not happen at all, in fact during the time I was on Zetia I had either the same cholesterol results or even an increase.
Now my physician wants to switch me to statin medication Zocor and to be honest I’m reluctant to start taking it mainly because all the experiences and warnings about statin side effects. Would an increased dose of Zetia be enough to prevent my physician from switching me to Zocor?

I had a scan in September last year and I had a retroverted uterus. Does it sound right that another scan I had in April showed I had a anteverted uterus. Then I just had another scan done in June and I now have a retroverted uterus again. Does this sound normal. I might add that I had cysts removed early in January of this year. Could the doctors have fixed my uterus and made in anteverted and then it went back to retroverted?

I have been on venlafaxine 225 for 4 years now and I am currently coming of it slowly every month down by 37.5mg, I am now on 75 mg and feeling so awful with all the normal symptoms.
Can anyone advise me as to which antidepressant to go on next as unfortunately I can not be without one and can I start taking it alongside the 37.5 which I am about to go on.
I was thinking of trying Citalopram which my son is on.

How difficult/easy to switch from lantus to tresiba. My dose of lantus is 10 units in the am and 7 units of lantus in the evening and my doctor wants to switch me to one dose daily of 14 units of tresiba. My doctor says it can take up to 3 days for tresiba to stabilize my BG. I'm a little worried about this and my Lantus is about to run out which means I guess I have to buy tresiba.

I've been on Prozac about a week and a half and it isn't agreeing with me. My anxiety is the worse at ever been and I can't leave the house. My doctor wants to switch me to Zoloft. The main reason her and I agreed to try Prozac first was because I'm terrified of gaining weight. I'm 23 and already have a major weight issue. I took lexapro as a teen and gained tons of weight. So, I am wondering, does anyone notice any significant weight changes on Zoloft? Also, how do people find Zoloft to help with anxiety?

I have been signed off work for the last 6 months with depression. I was prescribed Prozac, the dose of which was doubled after a few weeks, but I didn't find it helped with my anxiety.
A trip to Morrisons puts me in panic mode, I recently had to renew my passport at the Post Office and was sick on the way home as it caused me so much distress.
I stopped taking the Prozac cold turkey a few weeks ago and didn't have any problems. I didn't feel and better or any worse.
I have now been prescribed 30mg Mirtazapine - my first tablet will be this evening. However, I have read bad things about the side affects, I don't want to put on weight or feel any more down and sleepy than I already do.
Are there any positives to this medication - surely there must be!

Told him that after 12 weeks, the Citalopram, even at 40mg per day is not working. :blue: He's told me to reduce my dosage of Citalopram for a week and then start taking Mirtazapine which he says should help with my sleeping also.
Wants to see me in a fortnight to check side effects and signed me off another month.

I'm currently on depo provera and am switching to the copper IUD in a couple of weeks time (on May 11). I was wondering what it was like for any of you that also made this switch?
Also, has anyone else had issues with spotting/bleeding on hormonal birth control and then switched to the copper (non-hormonal) IUD?
I have been on depo for just over a year, and have had constant spotting the entire time. Prior to being on depo I was on the implant (Jadelle) for two years, and had to get it removed because of constant heavy period-like bleeding. Prior to Jadelle I was on depo provera (also had spotting) and before that the combined pill (which I can't take anymore because I've since discovered that I get migraines with aura).
I got an ultrasound done which found that my ovaries and everything down there is physically sound, which seems to suggest that my bleeding has been caused by hormones. Prior to starting any birth control, however, my periods were 100% normal.

I recently asked advice as changed to duloxetine from sertraline. I am experiencing severe RAGE since changing my medication and don't know what to do about this! Have any of you suffered with severe rage, I have tried many antidepressants over the years but have not experienced anything like this! Feeling really upset and desperate now, also has done nothing to help with my depression in fact it is worse than ever.
