Anxiety :: Muscle Aches In Both Calf Muscles?
Nov 24, 2015
I have been dealing with anxiety for the last 4 months but woke up the other morning and both my calf muscles were sore lime I had run a marathon but of course I hadn't. I did feel anxious or anything but they say you can get the symptoms without having it and was wondering if this is anxiety symptoms at its best.

When in bed at night I struggle to turn over or move as I feel so stiff and sore. Once out of bed and moving I am much better. I initially find it hard to become upright after sitting for any length of time. About 2 years ago my daughter noticed my right calf was much smaller than my left one. I cannot raise my self onto my toes on my right leg due to loss of muscle/strength in the affected leg.
I have had blood tests, nerve stimulation tests and a muscle biopsy. My CK level from my blood tests was slightly raised, my nerve study tests were abnormal and my biopsy only showed minimal change.
I now cannot raise my arms above shoulder level to the front and if I walk at a quicker pace my lower back feels like I have no support and I get pain around my lumbar region.
I go spinning 4/5 times a week and cope with this very well. It's as though once I'm warmed up my stiffness diminishes. I am 51 and have only one period every 3/4 months , I have been to the dr's re the menopause but have been told all my blood tests are normal.
i have been referred to a neurosurgeon and neurologist with ? A form of muscular dystrophy but now my muscle biopsy result has not shown the expected result.
i struggle going up and down stairs often. I feel so fed up with my inability to do what I want to do as I have always been an active person. I have put weight on and cannot motivate myself to control my diet.

I am 62 with Multiple Sclerosis. and it was boggling my mind that the legs were aching and pain just like i had just run 17 - 100 metre dashes.Thought it was MS but it just did not make sense(after 35 years i know my MS)...and then I had two days of Heartburn like a Volcano and found this Forum and read about Heartburn problems and Muscles Aching.
My question --- does anybody know absolutely for sure that there travelling aches and pains in their muscles are from Menopause-- I had to stop exercising as my legs were so sore....I do recognize after 8 years of exercise it is the key for a low maintenance menopause

I've just recently started running. At first it went fine, and I began to gradually increase my endurance and speed, really happy, etc. etc, until recently, I've been struck down by a mysterious malady.
While I run, my calves tighten up, and it becomes nearly impossible to finish the run. It's not plantar fasciitis or achilles tendonitis (no swelling, for one thing), but I can't consult a real doctor because I'm living in Japan and have no insurance and a very limited command of the language.
I did purchase new and good shoes, but no dice. I've consulted numerous of my track-involved friends, who offered various bits of contradictory advice. One person advised about 20 minutes of stretching before and after a run. Another said to not stretch before running, and stretch each calf for 3 sets of 30 seconds each. Those are the two extremes, and most suggestions fall somewhere in the middle. I make a point of doing a couple minutes of stretching (basic calf and thigh stretches), but nothing extensive, and I'm not sure what alterations I should make to my routine. I also took some time off, and just walked for my exercise, but when I started running again the problem returned.
Please help, any assistance would be appreciated. I'm just starting to get into running and just starting to get into shape, and I'm afraid that if this affliction keeps on going I will lose the motivation I've managed to fire up.

How long does it take for the calf muscle to restore to normal following calcaneal surgery / immobilisation?
I've been going swimming, but can't use the ladder to climb out of the pool (had to climb out on my bottom!) was told it was because the calf hadn't redeveloped.

I have had for many years twitching in both calves. The twitching looks like a rippling motion, primarily when at rest, but I can feel the ripple when the calves are not at rest. I have not seen anyone about this and am not aware of what may be causing it.

Hi all new to the board, for the last year maybe longer i noticed a lump on my left calf muscle only when flexed in a certain way and they are hard to touch and do not move, the last few days i've noticed another one right next to it, i am a very active person and do regular squats and calf exercises with the cross trainer also.
Does anyone else have this? If so have you been to the doctor with it?
I have booked an appointment today and will be going to get it checked in the next few hours just needed to see if anyone else has the same?

11 weeks in and I'm stuck so far in the healing process. I followed PT from day 1 and have had 6 sessions now. PT asks to strengthen and stretch but any work on the calf aggravates it and appears to set me back - should I just expect this...2 steps forward and 1 step back until fully healed? It was defo a gastrocnemius tear - ultrasound 6 weeks after estimated 70%. However my soleus is now hurting as well - it feels strained/pulled..Have I lengthened the gastrocnemius in the tear and now the soleus is too short?? Does that make sense?
Anyway - I can walk around without too much issue but ANYTHING else and it flairs up for several days - should I just give it more time or push for ortho and MRI? Any advice (I'm a poor patient!!)

Can anyone tell me if they have had trouble with their calf muscle after pttd surgery? I am 4 months post op. I have done my calf exercises religiously and am on a muscle stimulator 3 times a week. I am interested in finding out how long it took to get the muscle working and what was done to make it work.

its great to know i'm not going mad thinking i'm unique in this - i get cramp in my toes every single time i go to bed, if i dont try to nip it in the bud within a few minutes it moves to the rest of my foot and then to my calf muscle, i am wondering if i have a circulation problem, i did have Quinine for this and to be honest i noticed a reduction in the amount of times per week i got it then my husband said try an Aspirin which i did and noticed an aspirin in the morning then one at night reduced it even more than the quinine but, after a month of doing this, my cramps have increased to every night again whether i take aspirin or quinine, i am thin, relatively healthy but i am not a drinker of water so wonder if i should try that one next and maybe get hold of some concentrated Magnesium Citrate, i'll do anything to stop this, i even get it come on when driving and putting my foot on the gas pedal occasionally.

Achilles Tendon rupture or calf torn muscle: Does a Achilles tendon rupture make calf to swell up ?
After a couple days only between the calf and ankle got swell up... I did perform the 'calf squeeze test' and my foot moved a little ( probably because the muscle it's inflamed still??).

2 and a half weeks ago I tore my calf muscle. I went to minor injury unit at local hospital. They didn't need to do a scan. They diagnosed torn calf muscle and gave me crutches and told me to rest it for two weeks. Not sure but I think it must have been a Grade 3 tear as I could not walk on it without intense pain and only now can I actually stand on it. I've walked/hobbled about five yards at a time but it is very sore and tight.
After one week I went to GP to ask about recovery. The only advice was to do some stretches and try walking on it a little. I just wondered if I could find anyone who has been through this to see what steps they took.

I'm a 28 year old male. Over the past couple years my health has been steadily deteriorating.
Physical Issues:-
- Weight gain. 1-2 years gained 40lbs. (Now closing in on 295lbs)
- Unable to lose weight. Cut calories, ate better food, worked out with a trainer 4-5 days a week, 2.5 hours a day for a month and lost 2lbs. Muscle gain did not account for the lack of weight loss.
- knee pain (for 4-5 years). X-rays came back negative.
- legs are constantly overheated, and warm to the touch.
- exhaustion, all the time. To the point where it affects my life.
- no interest in anything due to always being tired.
- caffeine has no effect. Never drank coffee in my life, but started drinking black coffee and had no effect.
- constantly feeling 'I can't', whenever something comes up.
Doctors suggestions:-
-Doctor treated this as depression. I went on Celexa for 5 months and all that did was make things worse. Increased weight gain, more tired, more emotional, more depressed.
- I also saw a psychologist for about 10 sessions, but this was not very effective as I didn't have any specific trauma events.
- blood work and urine came back normal. No thyroid issues, no diabetes, nothing.
I keep trying to get healthy, but I can't shake this 'cloudy' feeling and exhaustion all the time.
I don't know if anyone can think of what this could be? I know I need to get more active, but like I said above my body and mind keep telling me 'I can't'...and no amount of caffeine helps.

For the past couple months I experience sharp, stinging (or maybe burning) pain in my calf, usually right leg but sometimes left too.
I've been walking long distances my whole life and never had cramps before. Been doing some reading and so far symptoms fits cramps.
I have lately been walking really long distances on occasion.
I have the pain happening at night. I wake up with badly aching leg (calf muscle) and need some time time for it to lessen, sometimes I fall asleep seconds later and when I wake up the muscle is stiff and painful. It's also bit painful/sensitive at touch on other days too.

I recently started exercising, elliptical, treadmill and weights. I have a lump/knot, its soft yet harder underneath. It is halfway between my calf and heel, good in size. It isn't painful, unless you are pressing in on it. I am not sure if I have just overdone it or if I have pulled a muscle or tendon. It isn't bruised or red, maybe a slight warm to touch at most. Any suggestions?
My family physician wasn't sure if it was a pulled something or maybe even a vein. I have googled and not really came up with much, I have ruled out trigger as it isn't actually up in the calf muscle itself and it isn't hard?

I am currently taking two antibiotics. Mepron and cefuroxime. And have been on antibiotics for about a year now. Having more light cramping in calves than before. Honestly, I haven't been good taking supplements and drinking a lot of water. Could be my reason right there. Has anyone experienced this and is there a way to get rid of cramping and restless leg syndrome?
