Angina ? Been Fine On Ranexa For Year, Symptoms Now Coming Back
Jan 29, 2016
I have been dealing with angina for a year now and it has been controlled with medication called Ranexa, but over the past three weeks my systems have came back and they are severe and more often! I have to keep nitro with me at all times now cause I am have at least four to five attacks a day. I am scared to drive due to this. There has been no change in my medication so I do not understand what's going on. I contacted my heart dr and all he said was I needed to exercise more. I mean I get that and I'm not a lot over weight but I could lose five to ten pounds. So does anyone have any suggestions? I'm afraid I'm going to die of a heart attack cause the pain is going down my arm and now sometimes up my neck and jaw!

I am 26 almost 27
Overweight (working on it)
On anxiety med and blood pressure medication.
For 6-8 years I've had on and off chest pain, left arm pain, neck pain, upper back, even pain in both jaw sides.
I've seen 3 cardiologists in the last 4 years. Blood pressure is a little high and also cholesterol is a tad high (again working on it)
They all say my heart checks out (like 6 ekgs, treadmill stress test, ECHOs and all checks out clean) been about 2 years since last echo and almost 3 since that stress test.
I also have GERD. Take Prilosec.
The last 2-3 weeks tho... On and off I've been having left arm, left breast pain. Throbbing. Stabbing. Aching. On and off. My neck has been hurting on and off too. My upper back, same thing. My jaw both sides on and off.

I've been on citalopram 20 mg for 18 months and I have now been tablet free for 7 days. The doctor said I was ready to withdraw off them so this is how I did it. I took 1 tablet every other day for 3 weeks then 1/2 tablet for a week. then I decided to come off them altogether.
This is where it doesn't go too well.
The side effects have been awful.Dizziness,moody,headaches and lethargic.I didn't expect them to be this bad.
I've persevered and I am feeling stronger than ever.
How long will the dizziness go on though?

I know I suffer from anxiety (and depression and insomnia), which is partly what drove me to drink, am on treatment for same and will review things with my GP asap, but I want to concentrate on my physical health concerns. Please ignore this thread if you ONLY want to talk about anxiety.
Briefly: I was a social drinker for 25 years, occasionally drinking more than I should have (but at things like celebrations and functions).
Two years ago, I began to develop mental health problems, but didn't start drinking more heavily (self-medicating) until about one year ago, when I also started to binge drink occasionally, including twice last October. After a gap, I then restarted drinking heavily in March this year, and this became very heavy at times in the summer (80+ units per week), with occasional even heavier binges, the most recent being last Thursday / Friday (50+ units each day).
I finally ended-up in hospital last weekend with tachycardia, low blood pressure and probably alcohol poisoning. While there, I first developed a painful red/purple rash on my chest. I was put on antibiotics for this, and it seems to be clearing-up.
However, then, I quickly developed various other strange and unpleasant physical symptoms:
- numerous bruises;
- numerous pimples and red/purple dots under the skin;
- some hair loss and extensive hair-thinning;
- a spider naevus;
- red palms;
- itchy skin- skin darkening affecting the backs of my hands and genitals;
- regular, profuse sweating;
- whites of eyes turned lemon;
- brain "fog".
Some of these symptoms have reduced or resolved (eg. red palms and itchy skin), but the others have persisted.
I am eating OK, but making an effort to do so. In spite of this, I have lost about a stone in weight in the past 3 weeks. I'm also lacking in energy.
Since June, I have had regular liver function tests and other blood tests, too.
These have shown elevated enzymes, more or less in line with the extent of my drinking. In early August, after a serious binge, the AST was 96 and GGT was 121. In mid-August, AST had reduced to 25 and GGT 72. But they were higher again (though both under 100) on my admission to hospital last weekend, but had started to fall again after I was there for a few days. I have been advised that, in all of the tests, the values for other important measures were consistently normal. The junior doctor in hospital said the LFTs indicated no cirrhosis or hepatitis.
I also had a physical exam (just manual) from a GP in mid-August, and she said my liver / abdomen felt soft and suple with no sign of inflammation, enlargement or hardness.
However, given the strange and unpleasant physical symptoms that quickly developed in hospital last weekend, I fear that my last serious binge a week ago finally tipped me over the edge and into serious liver disease. Too many of the symptoms are those of cirrhosis for me to think anything else. (I've checked on the NHS website.)
I am absolutely terrified that, despite good advice and warnings, I did not take heed and my body, especially the liver, has finally been permanently damaged by the alcohol.
My main question is: can I turn things around? I have not had anything to drink since last Friday, and have no inclination to do so. I am drinking a lot of water, fruit and vegetable juices, and eating healthily. I will try to get some exercise, though I don't have much energy.
I'll see my regular GP next week, but could do with some advice and, if it's appropriate, some reassurance before then.

Since August of 2013 I have had 6/7 bladder infections. I have lost around 30 pounds without changing much about my diet or exercising more regularly. I have been experiencing pain in my lower back on the left side and want to know if it should be something I should be concerned with. I have had bad back pain for around 2 years now but this pain is a little more specific. August was the first time I have had a bladder infection however when i was 16 (21 now) when I went in for a physical and was told I had a bladder infection. I didn't feel any pain so I didn't take the medicine prescribed. I went in to see a doctor when I was overseas for another bladder infection and they took an X-ray of my kidneys about 3 weeks ago and they didn't find anything. They told me that I did have a problem emptying my bladder. I had an ultrasound done and had to drink water before hand and when I emptied my bladder the ultrasound after my bladder was still full. I don't remember exactly what they called it. I just finished a month long round of antibiotics for a bladder infection and it is still not gone. Before this medication about a week before I was on a week long medicine for a bladder infection and it returned a week later.

I have been on 1800 mg a day of gabapentin for about 9 months due to a back problem. In this time I have put on over 2 stone and have now got the point where I've had enough. I went to my doctor on Tuesday and she has advised me to reduce my daily amount by 300 mg and then after a week, reduce by a further 300mg. This seems a lot quicker than others have done it although I'm desperate to get off these asap.

I have been taking 15mg of mirtazapine for 6 months for sleep problems and anxiety.
It has helped me sleep and feel more relaxed. But have struggled with word retrieval and foggy head. I decided to come off it and have been on 7.5 mg for 4 weeks, I have been doing ok but the last three days have had problems sleep waking after 3 hours and my anxiety feels like it coming back! Is this just withdrawal or am I going back my old ways?

Can anyone advise me? I had my first PS op last June '09. I am still experiencing pain when sitting for any length of time - whether in office for the day - or on car journey. I have not had recurrence of actual opening of the wound itself (altho it took a long time to close) and no abscess' - but the discomfort frightens me that it could be coming back! My GP tells me to wait and see for a while!

I had a hysterectomy done in February of 2013, I had a partial, just my uterus and cervix removed so all that is left are my ovaries. Within the past month all of the same symptoms are back that I had before surgery. Severe pelvic pain, bloating, back pain, not sleeping, hurts to urinate and so on. I'm 27 years old and no kids and I felt it was my only option because I had so many laps done and there was nothing more to do other than the hysterectomy. So if there are some women out there that has had a full hysterectomy could you please tell me if its worth asking doctor to remove ovaries. Could really use some advice now or just to know there's more women out there around my age going through the same thing. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Hi 47yr old male, who has had 2 lots of banding done over a 5yr period, last lot of banding 5 weeks ago. Now what seems is like 4 is back again, i cannot believe this? i thought i would get at least a year rest...... It's depressing me the pain. They are mostly internal but noticed i can feel them if i put my finger there. So i use Lignocaine for pain, helps mostly, yesterday was bad, not today when i need BM i put it of for fear of the pain...Is there any quick way to get rid of these or least make them less painful?, I'm taking 2 senna tablets a day, with Flaxseed at night on cereal... and using the occasional Microlax if i feel constipated. Because i am on an Opiate based medication, it's not helping. But i am beginning to get really depressed over this and making my life miserable and it's controlling my days i wont go for drives etc..as i hate sitting on hard seats.

for about a week i have had periodic "heat flashes" in the back of my right leg from the foot to the back of the knee. Not painful, but odd sensation like hot compress being applied. happens 8-10 times a day when i am sitting or standing. Had a severe leg cramp, charlie horse, about 1 1/2 weeks ago so thought symptoms might be related. went to my MD who told me no danger of blood clot (would be very severe pain, swelling, hot to touch). said probably related to leg cramp and advised me to do more walking (i sit in an office chair all day) and to do exercises consisting of pushing left down down as far as it will go for 5 seconds, then arching up for 5 seconds, for 10 times. She likely due to spasms and that hot flash is due to when blood vessels stop dilating (???). I will try this recommendation for one week and will let you know, but I am not very confident that this will work.This discussion is related to Strange feeling of heat in my leg.

I had a vasectomy carried out under general anaesthetic (due to complications) on the NHS. It was done on a day ward.
I had no problems or complications other than a slight infection around the stitches. It took nine months before I got the all clear for having a zero sperm count though.

I was diagnosed with postpartum thyroiditis about 18 months ago. I have had it under control for over a year now except for 2 days out of every month. The first couple of days of my period. Every time I see a medical professional or talk to someone about it, they act like I'm crazy because I am too young to have these problems. Every month I am extra tired, moody and nauseous. I also get dizzy, disoriented, hot and cold, sweating, heart rate increases and when I'm hot it feels like my thyroid is pushing on my airway. I go to the hospital but they send me home cuz my oxygen is at 97%. Which is the lower side of being normal. And they are say it's impossible for my period to affect my thyroid like that. Am I crazy or are they not caring cuz of my age?

34 years male, had a vasectomy a week ago, the left side was quite painful during the op to the point it made me loudly say OW during the procedure. They gave more anaesthetic and carried on. The right side, no issue or pain.
A week on and I am still finding the left side rather painful, there is small swelling above the testicle and its still sore to touch, and aches, especially if i have been on my feet for a bit, which will cause pain when i walk too. I know timescales for healing is different for everyone, but I was hoping that by now I would not feel restricted on my daily activities. I have been fortunate that I have been on leave from work and due back in friday, I have an active job, and really not sure how i will cope with being on my feet for hours and possibly taking a knock to my testicles.
Just wondering really what others experiences are to do with recovery.

I am 56 on statins and aspirin for cholesterol. ~2 months ago I got tinnitus out of the blue, thought it was hypertension, so I bought a heart monitor and found out that in fact, to my surprise, my blood pressure was 170+/90. Went to the doctor and he put me on Bisoprolol, first month 2.5mg/day (no change in blood pressure), last 30 days 5mg. My blood pressure has now lowered to 140/70 so I should be quite happy BUT 1, 2 and 3 weeks ago I got three scary episodes, waking up in the middle of the night with a feeling of severe tightness in my chest, very bad cold sweats etc. Back to the doc he thinks it's unstable angina and scared the &***!? out of me and that I should have called 999 etc. He's referred me to a cardiologist next week. My question is, since I've never had angina or heart problems in my life, could it be that Bisoprolol itself is causing these episodes and it is not angina at all? I know it is prescribed FOR angina but I also see it has a huge list of side effects.
