Anemia :: Vitamin B12 - Good On Injections, Not Tablets
Feb 18, 2015
I was diagnosed with low b12 in September last year. My levels were at 70. My Dr had me tested to see whether my body had stopped absorbing b12, or I was just low in it from my diet. It turned out I can absorb it but I was just low in b12 at that time for whatever reason. I had loading injections every other day for 2 weeks. Then I was put on b12 tablets for 3 months. After the initial loading injections I felt better, but then on the tablets deteriorated again. I was tested after the 3 months and my levels were normal this time. However I still felt awful, so my Dr has advised I have an injection every 3 months. But still they are making no difference. I don't have the energy to even get myself dressed in the morning. I have a 1 and 2 year old and I find life so hard with no energy at all. I really can't cope anymore, every aspect of my life is suffering but I don't understand why since my levels are normal now.

My husband suffers from Hay Fever quite badly. He takes one Hay Fever tablet in the morning and then another at night. He then has his nasal spray which he takes everyday as well as eye drops to stop them from itching.
Also to help keep the pollen off his skin he will take 3-4 showers a day.
I have tried to convince him to at least try the Hay Fever injection but he says it is too dangerous and can cause heart problems.
The fact that he doses his system up on the tablets, sprays and eye drops everyday can't be healthy either!
Does anyone know of where I can find information to try and convince my husband that what he is doing isn't that great for him either?

following recent routine blood test, my GP said I was deficient in Vitamin B12. Rather than go straight to injections, she suggested I buy some Vitamins. I have got some Vit B, but can't seem to locate Vit B12 tablets. does anyone know if taking Vit B is OK, or if not where can I get Vit B12?
I am 63 yrs old and consider that I eat a good varied diet (fish etc)

My most recent hemogram shows that my ferritin is at 0.7, and that scared the pants out of me. I also have low hemoglobin, my serum iron is nearly at normal levels, just a few points below normal. I have to wait for my doctor to come from his medical absence before I can show him the tests.
Until then I'm taking the iron supplements I was prescribed 2 months ago. I want to take some vitamin C to help with the absorption, but I have a little issue: I'm allergic to citric acid, so orange juice or other citrus fruits are out of the question.
Any suggestions on what I should eat to give my iron levels a push? Or should I just get a vitamin C supplement as well?

I have a friend who has had iron deficiency anemia since she was like 18 years old from what i heard. She's now having severe iron deficiency anemia and is having two IV injections of iron a day and the doctors do not know the cause still. She's on gluten free diet and oral iron therapy doesn't work on her. Now her situation is getting bad by the day. Does anyone know anything that could suggest a reason for this ?

I have been iron deficient all my life, but it's at a critical point right now. I see a hematologist on September 14th. It takes everything out of me to get up each morning and go to work. I come home and just want to sleep. I am freezing cold all the time and eat ice constantly. I'm extremely moody and my husband doesn't understand my condition, so I am turning to the internet for support and help. I'll be getting an iron transfusion and blood transfusion as well. I don't absorb iron like everyone else as I had a gastric bypass in 2008. I am also not absorbing my Vit D 50,000 IU pills once a week either. I'm just at my wits end here.

I am brand new to this discussion forum and hope someone can offer info/support on being diagnosed with low Vitamin B12. My G.P. prescribed a course of hydroxocobalamin injections. Since starting these I have experienced an upset tummy, feel flushed and look it too. I feel generally not quite right, achy and weary. Has anyone else experienced this and is this normal?

I noticed that I bruise very easily lately. I was told back in February I had very low iron so was taking 325 mg of iron (ferrous sulfate) 3x a day! I took this for 3 months, had my iron levels checked AGAIN and my iron went DOWN MORE instead of up!
I was having major leg cramping at night-- that has gone down since I've been taking a muscle relaxer EVERY night due to my TMJ acting up at the same time. I am still taking iron supplements and trying to eat more iron but due to TMJ it is hard at times. I drink TONS of water.
I have had itchy legs in the evening so I scratch them and I noticed the other day my thigh, the outside of my right thigh (quadricep really) is BRUISED, like bad! I also notice small bruises on my ankle bones which I have NO clue where I get them from. I see my doc again next week and will bring this up. Anyone else have this going on? I also black out a lot when I stand up, but that has been going on for years. Usually if I get up too fast.
p.s. my thyroid and kidney function came back normal. I had a whole panel done, with blood work. I think my vitamin D was a little low but I take extra of that with calcium at night.

I was diagnosed with with B12 and Vitamin D deficiency. Both levels quite low. I have been taking my Vitamin B12 shots for three weeks now. Also I am on supplements for Vitamin D 60000 IU once a week. Most of my symptoms like tingling numbness and headache have gone. But since a few days i have been experiencing this weird feeling in my chest and entire body, the kinds when we are nervous, with palpitation while sleeping. I wake up and sit for sometime and then I seem to be fine. However, it happens again when i am about fall asleep. My GP said its anxiety and prescribed clonazepam. It did help for three days. But yesterday I tried sleeping without taking clonazepam and the same feeling of anxiety and palpitation came back. Is it a part of the vitamin D recovery process? I don't want to take clonazepam regularly. Any suggestions?

i can not sleep without sleeping tablets, I worried about being depended on them. When I was first found out I had depression I had not slept through the night for 4 weeks. I always had 8 hours straight all my life. I would wake up 5 times a night. I went away in December and the doctor gave me sleeping tablets as the time zone change of 7 hours really effect me. When I was away I run out of sleeping tablets and brought over the counter ones. Since being back I have taken them and have slept through, but last night I didn't take them as I wanted to see if my body was getting back to normal or if it's the tablets. I woke up 5 times last night. I feel I need sleep and without tablets I'm not. I need them to be able to get through work as I struggle more without sleep, and im struggling with sleep as it is. I don't want to have to rely on them, but don't know what to do?

My Husband has been taking Co Codamol for over 10 years now , he suffers from spondylosis and arthritis. His Doctor has sent him for many x ray.I know that he is in lots of pain and can sometimes be in bad moods because of it but i feel that his addiction to the painkiller has made his moods a lot worse. My husband gets a months prescription of co codamol which is 224 tablets and has taken them all in 5 days, He takes 20 co codamol tablets at once about 3 times a day , so by the end of the day he has taken 60 tablets. When he has run out of his own painkillers he takes his mom's co codamol prescription and then its many trips to different chemists. I have been to the doctors 3 times with him over the last 10 years and at first they stop them and give him other medication for the pain but he ends up going to see the doctor that prescribes the co codamol for him again. He know longer lets me go with to the doctors because he knows i will tell them about his addiction. I now just have to put up with addiction and try and help him when he wants help. The addiction has certainly put a strain on our marriage and family life. The children who are 18 , 21 and 24 have all noticed and commented that they find it hard to chat to there dad and that he has changed.I feel that i am becoming depressed because of the atmospheres his moods create. He has been given appointments for physiotherapy but he does not bother going as he says it does not work

My friend uses quinine tablets each time he has fever. I am not sure why he doesn’t use usual antipyretics. I know that these tablets are recommended for malaria, but I am not sure how they affect usual fever. Can anyone tell me about side effects of these tablets?
