View 7 RepliesI have had a long history of pain med abuse but oddly enough the two withdrawals I went through were for a synthetic opioid (Tramadol) and a substance/drug that acts just like an opiate but isn't one (Tianeptine).
I was taking massive amounts of tramadol from 2007-2009, 250 mg three times a day every day during those years. I finally decided enough was enough and quit cold turkey. I went through pure hell back then and used the internet to talk to others and use all of the remedies that were known at that time (vitamins, st john's wort, baths, etc.). These 'solutions' did very little and I was in a living hell every day for a good two weeks. We all know what that entails so there's no point in going over the details.
Fast forward to a couple months ago and I found this wonderful substance called Tianeptine. It's not scheduled nor marketed here in the US despite it being very effective for depression and it's effects are nearly identical to a good dose of hydrocodone or oxycontin. Since it's not regulated in the US, I was able to buy it on a certain popular auction website as well as through some online US vendors. Granted, they sell it as 'not for human consumption' but they know very well that their buyers are buying it to take it.
The dosage is only 12.5mg but if you take 80-125 mg or more you get a fantastic opiate high but it only lasts for a couple of hours as it's half life is very short (about two hours). I quickly picked up a habit of taking 100mg doses 3-4x each day for two straight months. I quickly realized I was becoming addicted to it and decided when I ran out I would quit it for good.
Just 3-4 hours after my last dose was last Sunday afternoon and I was already starting to have withdrawals. I expected to feel a bit tired and have minor cravings for maybe a day or two but nothing more. I was in for one hell of a surprise though. The rest of the day it was like my tramadol withdrawal all over again. I felt like I had the flu, was sore all over, felt incredibly depressed and tired, couldn't get comfortable, nose was running, etc. and so on. Then night came. I couldn't fall asleep at all and within literally 5 seconds of changing positions in bed I was immediately uncomfortable and rolling over again. No matter that I did, I couldn't get comfortable or fall asleep. This constant tossing and turning went on all night for 8-9 hours until I had to go to work.
I still felt like absolute garbage and couldn't even function at work. I was constantly running to the bathroom the previous night with the runs and I was still having that problem at work too. I went home sick after about 4 hours that felt like an eternity. I went home where I continued to relive the hell I went through from tramadol withdrawal a few years ago. That night (Monday evening) it was the same thing trying to sleep-- It simply didn't happen! I was so miserable it brought me to tears and extreme anger at feeling like c**p, not being able to get comfortable for more than a few seconds, having extreme RLS and not being able to get to sleep.
Tuesday morning I had to give up and get ready for work early in the morning. I felt just as bad as I had the previous day on Monday but I forced myself to tough out the day despite being horribly unproductive and each minute feeling like an hour. When I got home from work I decided to look up opiate withdrawal on the internet to see if there was any new home remedies since my last trip through this hell. I was shocked to find out that high doses of Imodium AD were all I really needed to be symptom-free from withdrawal. I immediately got in my car and drove to Walmart to stock up. When I got home I immediately took 4 of the pills. About three hours later it was time for bed so I took another 4 along with my usual Zantac, melatonin and doxylamine (I've taken these three things every night at bedtime for many years so this wasn't out of the ordinary).
I laid in bed watching my usual 30 or so minutes of TV until I shut it off and try to fall asleep. I was feeling a little bit better since taking all that Imodium but thought it could have been placebo so I was skeptical about it working and me being able to sleep for the first time in 72 hours. To my surprise, I was able to get comfortable right away, stay comfortable and fall asleep easy. I didn't have to be to work until the afternoon so I was able to try and sleep in. I woke up two times in the night to go to the bathroom but was able to quickly fall back asleep. Unfortunately I wasn't able to sleep any later than 7am but that did give me a full 8 hours of sleep so I was very pleased.
That morning on Wednesday I took another 4 Imodium followed by breakfast. I was feeling great and withdrawal-free for the most part. I didn't feel 100% normal but I was probably about 80-85% and felt that the reason was because I was still sleep deprived from only slept once in the previous three nights. I swallowed another 4 Imodium pills before heading out the door to work and was able to work at about 80-85% of my potential and was in a pretty good mood as well, which was 1,000 times better than how I had felt in previous days before finding out about Imodium!
I got off work really late and took another 4 Imodium and went to bed. I slept another 8 hours but was unable to get any more than that despite today being my day off. I got curious about some of the other supplements for withdrawal such as the Tagamet HB and Aleve. Although I have been feeling just fine from the Imodium alone, I decided to go out and buy some of these other OTC meds to see if they help. When I got home this afternoon from buying them I decided to take some Tagamet and Aleve followed by 4 more Imodium pills a few minutes later. I think they do indeed help the withdrawals even more and so it must be true that they aid in the Imodium's action in your body/brain. I can and will conclude that, in my case anyway, they are unnecessary as the Imodium itself is definitely enough. That being said, if you feel you really, truly need that additional little boost to overcome your withdrawals then by all means go out and buy some generic Aleve and Tagamet as well because I can confirm that they do help a little bit more! I would not say that I am 'high' or 'buzzed' off the combined feeling of these meds but I am definitely in a happier mood, withdrawal-free and with a bit of energy!
I know there are already 100s, if not 1000s of documented cases on the internet about these OTC medications being extremely effective for opiate withdrawal. I couldn't help but to include my story as well but I feel it's even more important for me to help spread the information that this "opiate withdrawal cure" also works for addictions to "opiate-like" substances as well, such as for tramadol and tianeptine! I sincerely hope my post helps out all opiate and opiate-like addictions out there that are giving people trouble in their withdrawal. It is absolutely crazy that these simple, common OTC drugs are so cheap and effective at overcoming your addiction!
In the two days I've been using Imodium (along with today's added drugs of Tagamet and Aleve) I have not had a bowel movement yet. That may be TMI but I feel it's important to give as much information as possible. I am not too concerned yet as I was only having a bowel movement a couple times a week while in my tianeptine addiction the past couple of months. Because my recent addiction was relatively short-term at just two months and the abuse wasn't crazy-insane, I am planning on tapering out my Imodium use over the next 2-3 days. I will update this post with any progress or further information I feel necessary to share. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!
Here's another breakdown of what you need to overcome your withdrawal:
Imodium AD -- Loperamide 2mg (get the Walmart or other generic brand). Take 4-6 at a time and if after an hour or two it's not enough then take another 4-6 until you find your right dose. When you find your right dose you'll know because 80-90% of your withdrawal symptoms will be gone!
Tagamet HB -- Cimetidine 200mg (get the Walmart or other generic brand). Take 1-2 about 30 minutes before you take your Imodium dose. Remember that you don't have to take this as well as Imodium itself is truly good enough but if you feel you need a little more than definitely invest in some of this as well.
Aleve -- Naproxen Sodium 220mg (get the Walmart or other generic brand). Take 1-2 about 30 minutes before you take your Imodium dose. Remember that you don't have to take this as well as Imodium itself is truly good enough but if you feel you need a little more than definitely invest in some of this as well.

View 4 RepliesSo as this pregnancy progresses so does my acid reflux and heartburn. At night is when it gets the worst and wen I wake up I still have it. Anything help cause milk isn't doing the trick for me :/ they always say that creates hair on your baby and I agree cause my first was the same way but only wen I ate spicy foods, this cravings are different and no spicy food but this acid reflux is killing me
View 6 RepliesMy gosh its 5 in the morning and I can't sleep because of my heartburn. I took zantac in the afternoon yesterday and I didn't take one before I went to bed. But man this is killing me it's horrible. And this baby is so freaking comfortable in my stomach. I feel like she's using my left rib as a blanket. Making mommy in pain.
View 3 RepliesIm 37wks+4 and Im still having horrible heartburn!! When I starting dropping it eased a little but its back with a vengeance. Anybody else having this issue this far along? Everything I eat seems to cause it. It worse at night when I want to lay down of course.
View 4 RepliesMy whole pregnancy i've had bad heartburn. I am now 37 weeks and 2 days and it's just gotten worse today where I keep almost throwing up.
View 4 RepliesI am 6 weeks pregnant! I have heartburn a lot but no vomiting. This is my first pregnancy! Do some women just not get sick? I'll get nauseous but no vomiting!
View 7 RepliesThis has been going on for about 3 months now, sometimes worse and sometimes barely noticeable.
I'm 24 years old, male.
I have no known allergies and i have tried different foods if possible for periods of time to no real effect.
The symptoms do not seem to point to a specific condition - it always lacks something to link it to a certain disease or problem.
Symptoms include:
Constipation/gas (usually feeling of fullness and the need to burp - which seems to help a little).
When worse, lumpy feeling in throat.
Sometimes feel as if its harder to breathe, tho actually i can breath just fine.
Eerie, empty feeling in left chest (seems to be generally wide spread hard to localize). Sometimes the feeling can click and get stonger suddenly.
Heart palpitations (not really sure if its actually due to skipping beats or just being strongly aware of heartbeat).
Rarely iv had pain radiate to my arm (can last longer, change location), or feel sharper pain in the left chest when breathing in (wont last for long).
When it gets worse, i seem to get some nausea - feeling the need to puke.
Rarely i may have mild heartburn.
The arm pain was worse during the first few weeks, haven't noticed it much anymore.
I do have somewhat "sitting" lifestyle and less physical exercise, i am not overweight, tho i may have few extra kg but overall its ok.
I gave up on coffee(for 3 months now), avoiding foods that might irritate stomach( acidic, spicy).
The arm pain, palpitations and eerie feeling in chest could be due to vagus nerve getting wrong signals together with potential anxiety (possibly developed early on - after all weird feeling in chest sends subconscious thoughts on heart).
I don't have any real pain - so can't be ulcers.
I lack constant heartburn - not a common GERD.
Gastritis of some kind? Tho no noticeable pain most of the time.
OH and PS! i am nonalcoholic 100% so alcohol cannot be the cause. Nether do i smoke. I don't eat junk food often.
Something very odd is going on with my body of late...
I am a 35 year old man whom most would consider to be generally healthy. I am 6 foot 2 inches tall and currently weigh in at 217 pounds. I enjoy weightlifting and mountain biking but spend a lot of time sat down in the office and at home. I probably exercise about 3-4 hours a week at present. I stopped smoking nearly 5 months ago and rarely drink alcohol.
Over the past 5-6 weeks I have cut out bread, refined sugar and refined salt from my diet and started to attend the gym on a regular basis. Over the past 3 weeks I have cut out all processed foods, GM meat and have introduced organic veg and fruit into my diet. I'm still eating meat but am very selective. Overall i've been feeling good about my change of lifestyle and people have been very complimentary as to the change in my appearance.
However, there has been a strange twist. On 2 occasions now i've felt ill after my favourite curry dish (a treat I would have once a week). At Nando's last week I experienced the most gut-wrenching and crippling stomach cramps 5 minutes after i finished eating - never experienced pain so intense before. Even when I tried to have my favourite rum n pepsi last Saturday, I didn't really enjoy the drink and also noticed a bit of discomfort in my esophagus. It seems that my body is rejecting all forms of junk food and sometimes violently so...
Last night I yet again had heartburn which prevented me from getting to sleep until after 2am. Sunday I didn't sleep until 3am. All in all I think i've had heartburn/reflux 7-8 times in the last 2 weeks... Today I'm at work n all of a sudden the pond water (spirulina) I drunk this morning has just come up to the back of my throat and I now have the sensation of this foul tasting liquid in my my gullet. Despite coughing, drinking and trying to clear my throat I can't get rid of this mucus-like liquid.
I've been super healthy of late. I'm eating extremely nutritious whole foods, I'm exercising regularly and sleeping well most nights. Generally I feel great, my skin is clearer, I've lost weight and I have more energy. So why the reflux?
What's weird is that I could probably count the number of times I've had reflux historically on one hand...
I'm wondering if this is just a temporary side-effect as I go through the process of cleansing my body. I am taking apple cider vinegar and probiotic yoghurt shots (not at the same time) so I wonder if the symptoms I am experiencing are a side effect of my gut flora coming back into balance...
Can anyone relate to having muscle and bone pain with being deficient in vitamin D ? I get severe pains in muscles down my back and this has spread into my shoulders and up my neck into my head at the back. The pains come and go but i always feel tender and stiff in these area's. I get sharp shooting pains, burning pains and the feeling that my muscles are sore to touch. I also have felt like the muscle is tearing when i turn to reach something, the tearing sensation is really painful. I get shooting pains in my right leg in the hip/buttock joint which makes walking difficult at times and causes my left knee to give as i try to keep weight off right leg. The bone pain is usually in my lower back. When the pains in my neck muscles started it seemed to be triggered after i heard a cracking sound and got sharp pains in the back of my neck.
View 33 RepliesI have heartburn very badly as perhaps you all know from my previous posts.
I am waiting for my ENT appointment. I take Lansoprazole twice a day before food. I also take ginger capsules and enzymes. None of this seems to work. As soon as I have eaten it starts to burn in throat and nose. I only eat small meals regularly rather than a big meal and am very careful what I'm eating.
I don't drink anything other than fruit teas and water.
I don't eat any fatty foods or tomatoes. Only a very slight amount of dairy ie semi milk with porridge in the morning.
I have been wondering if Ramipril was responsible for my symptoms and decided to surf for more information.
My GP changed my medication from Atenolol to Ramipril. I started with a persistent dry cough and then a permanent sensation of heartburn. Soon I found that if I coughed too hard I started retching, but wasn't sick. Then I had spells where my mouth filled with saliva as if I was going to be sick. I was either swallowing like mad or hanging over a sink spitting it out. It only lasted a minute or so but often ended with more retching. Very embarrassing if you are in company. The medication to combat these symptoms works really well, but gives me diarrhea.
Routine blood tests have also shown slight anaemia.I also itch quite a bit and my feet are swollen.
Has anyone else had these side effects?
I'm going back to the GP and will insist on being taken off this medication.
Has anyone suffer or has suffered from bad chest pain with heartburn after gallbladder removal? I Am eating a very low fat diet, in fact no fat at all, and I still get most times pain in chest with burning. I would like to hear from anybody that has the same and if anything helped to treat it beside PPIs.they don't work for me. I am really worried because it might be damaging my esophagus and throat is sore from the reflux.
has anyone was told by doctors that it might be just a symptom until the body adjusts to not having gallbladder and that's why medication doesn't work? Please share your thoughts and experiences. I am worried and confused why my body started having reflux issues after this surgery.
So, about three months ago, i noticed my stomach started to feel weird between breakfast and lunch. It's like an anxious, nervous, acid-y almost jittery feeling that's hard to describe. Yesterday was one of the worst times of it yet! I had my usual breakfast of hot quinoa topped with almond butter, a little maple syrup to sweeten, and bananas and strawberries. It was a pretty small amount, but just enough to fill me up. However, a half an hour later, I started to get that terrible acidic, nervous, anxious feeling that feels like i had a ton of vitamins on an empty stomach or something. So I ate a bunch of bagels to absorb any acid, and i felt great. This morning, I had a heartier breakfast of a vegetable tamale and some baked beans. I got that feeling again! So i ate and felt better. I usually don't get this feeling any other time of day, however, a few nights ago, i couldn't go to sleep because i had that feeling, but accompanied by hunger, so i got up, ate, felt great. Most of the time when I get this feeling after breakfast, it's after i had had a HUGE meal the night before. Is it acid reflux? I get heartburn after practically every meal. I don't know, i'm just SOOOOO afraid this is something terrible! Is it GERD?
View 1 Repliesi have started having heartburn I would swear was heart attack, if I hadn't recently had a heart cath, even though stress test was good, etc. Cardio wanted to be sure. I have been on mission to rule out GCA, due to headache and blurry vision. Biopsy came back normal. I have been taking acetaminophen for headache, which receives for about 5 hrs. I am on 10 mg Pred, down from beginning dose in May of 20. Any suggestions? Had drastic change in eyes since July, optometrist has been waiting for biopsy results, so I see him Wednesday, and Rheumy on 23rd, on and on it goes!
View 45 RepliesI noticed around 6 years ago that I was getting heartburn on a daily basis, I didn't really know what it was at that time and soldiered for another few months before seeking medical attention.
The culprit at this time was regular ground black pepper so I cut this out.
For a while I hadn't had any problems until I came to Australia and changed my diet which now consists of nuts - Almonds, Walnuts and Peanut Butter and Oatmeal.
Over the last several weeks I have noticed my heartburn getting more worse and aggressive. Just seconds after eating peanut butter I get the symptoms and some 20-30 minutes after eating porridge or most cereals now I get the symptoms.
This change has only just happened to me and I do not wish to medicate, I would rather prevent. I do not want to see a doctor about this until I get healthcare insurance, then I will be happy to pursue medical treatment.
For now I would like to get information from people, preferably ones who are triggered by the same foods to see what I can do for my diet as it seems absurd to cut out cereals, wholegrains and peanuts.
Additional notes: I drink a lot of water, I rarely drink coffee or tea - if I do it is 1-3 cups a day, I drink alcohol a couple of times in a month, I exercise regularly, I keep my sugar low, I eat spicy foods which do not seem to affect my symptoms, I stay away from heavily processed carb or starchy foods, I only eat bananas as fruit and eat vegetables if I have them or they are served to me.
