Volvo - V70 :: 2000 - Rattling Noise Get Louder When Coasting

I have a 2000 Volvo V70 XC wagon AWD. I just purchased this car in January and it needed a lot of love and care. Here's my car question: I have a rattling noise that started about a week ago. Just this morning (on my way to the mechanic ironically/luckily) the rattling became very loud and apparent. The noise sounds something like a piece of metal rattling around in an empty coffee can. The noise seemed to go away when I was accelerating, get louder when coasting, and then slowed down in frequency (not volume) as the speed of my car slowed down.

My mechanic also isn't sure what's wrong. He has had himself and 2 other mechanics look at, in addition to hooking it up to machines and making phone calls to Volvo. He says the noise is unmistakably coming from my drive-shaft and that it sounds like it is traveling from one end of the drive shaft to the other. He also said it's odd because the place that the noise is coming from is just a shaft and shouldn't be making any noise?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Rattling Noise Underneath While Coasting

Santa fe developed a noise underneath that rattles up to the gear shift. It happens mostly when you take your foot off the gas but can happen if your just cruising. Engine does not make any noise while revving it or under load in drive with foot on brake. Definitely sounds rotational but all looks ok underneath.

My 3 week old car just got louder yesterday. Today I noticed it more. Only 1.3k on it. Louder revving, esp. in 2nd, and louder just coasting too. Is everything all right? Before now it was quiet as a whisper.

Volvo :: 1997 / 850 - Rattling Noise When First Driving The Car

I have a 1997 Volvo 850. Just had a cv axle on the right front replaced but now I have a different issue.

When I first start driving the car, there is some noise/rattle that seems to come from the back, driver's side area. When I hit the accelerator you can hear it. However, after hitting the accelerator 3 times or so and driving 1/4 mile, the noise diappears. If the car sits at work 4 hours, then start again the same thing happens.

Camry :: Louder Ticking / Rattling And Clacking When Its Cold

My '07 I4 has 92K on it, I have only owned it for 450 miles of that. It has a bit of a rough idle sitting at a light, but fine otherwise, it did stall on me once at startup. I put some Seafoam in the fuel tank and ran that entire tank, I now have regular gasoline in it. The rough idle isn't any better but I have another issue.

The day after putting in the Seafoam, on a cold startup (36 degrees), I had a lot of valve/lifter/injector/VVT ticking, not sure which. It was worse that one time and it lasted for the first 4 miles of driving and only ticked when I was under load, not at idle.

As time has progressed I have no serious ticking, but it does make a louder ticking/rattling/clacking, whatever you want to call it, until it warms up, about 4 miles.

I heard reference to VVT issues or VVT gears, I'm used to my '06 Tacoma V6 and I know nothing about this issue.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Rattling Noise In Motor Area

I have 2000 accent 1.5 man trans have had it for 2 years it runs good have done alot of regular maintenance but since i have owned it there was a rattle coming from motor area assumed it was heat shield of some kind, but then i noticed it stops when clutch is engaged or when driving. it is also not there when first started on very cold mornings. wondering if it is a bearing in the clutch area?

Saturn - SL2 :: 1994 - Rattling Noise When Accelerate Above 2000 RPM

When I accelerate above 2000 RPM, a rattling noise (almost like when a kettle is sitting atop the stove and the water is boiling) comes from under the hood. The sound does not get louder as I accelerate above 2000 RPM (i.e. the sound is constant as long as the engine is above 2000 RPM). I took it to the mechanic, he said that the serpentine belt assembly needed tightening but that did nothing to eliminate the sound. I'm concerned it might be my timing chain. As soon as the engine decelerates below 2000 RPM (say when I put the car in neutral) the noise disappears. It is a 1994 Saturn SL2, manual transmission.

For the past week I've been hearing a rattling / thumping noise when I'd go over a bump or hit a pothole. I opened the trunk and it wasn't anything knocking around in there.

Yesterday when I was driving I hit a bump and it sounded even louder, like something rubbing against something. I pulled into a parking lot and looked under the car thinking maybe the muffler was dragging or something, but I didn't see anything. I had my daughter get out of the car and look while I backed up and then forward again. She didn't see anything and the noise had stopped.

I figured I'd try to drive home but as soon as I hit another bump the rubbing noise was back so I pulled over & called for a tow. When the guy looked at it he said it looked like my shock or strut (can't remember which he said). He showed me a hole under the car where the part is supposed to be in, then showed me the part which was currently out of the hole and slanted forward next to my tire. When he pushed on my tire I heard the same noise as when I was driving.

Celica :: 2000 GT - Ticking / Rattling Noise From Engine Around 2k To 3k RPMs

I drive a 2000 Celica GT 5 speed. I am having an issue with my 1ZZ-FE.

I am hearing a ticking/rattling noise from my engine around 2k-3k RPMS. Anything before or after that, the noise dies down. I could hear it from the interior of the car as well. I at first thought it was valve chatter. Someone said It could be a piston or rod. What parts will be needed? Worst case, ill just swap in a 03+ 1ZZ or go with a 2ZZ.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Rattling Noise During Acceleration And Only At Just Under 2000 RPMs

I have a 07 Hyundai sonata that has a rattling noise only during acceleration and only at just under 2000 rpm's. I went to a mechanic who checked the heat shields and exhaust only to tell me it was in the transaxel and sent me to a transmission shop. the transmission shop told me they think its the hydraulic lifters, and sent me elsewhere.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: 2004 - Engine Rattling / Clicking Noise At Low RPM

Recently, my 04 accent (97,000 miles on engine and auto trans) has started to develop a rattling or Clanking noise coming from the engine at low RPM's. I flushed the engine and changed the oil and oil filter, thinking it could be due to oil clogging the HLA, But this was a no go. The engine is still making the noise, and I think it is starting to get worse.

The noise only happens when the car is idling at low RPM's. As soon as I rev the engine past 1000-1500 RPM's, the noise stops. The noise is worse when idling in gear, either reverse or drive, however as soon as you accelerate past 1000-1500 RPM, the noise goes away, until you decelerate to low RPM again. I'll try to take a video of it and post a link to it on here tomorrow.

Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Vibration Between 30 - 45 MPH Only When Coasting

I have recently developed a vibration between 30-45mph only when coasting. It smooths out when I tap the gas. The tires are less than a year old and I just put new manual lock out hubs hoping that would correct the issue, but it didn't. There's no clunk noise when in reverse or drive but occasionally when I get on the gas there's a short squeaking noise.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Stalled When Coasting Down A Hill And Now Won't Start

Was coasting down a hill(manual transmission) and the car stalled out on me. Tried for a couple minutes to restart it with no luck, the engine turns over but just wont start.

As I post this I still haven't got the car home so I haven't been able to do any trouble shooting yet. Once I get it home I'll ceck for fuel and spark, and from what I have read already people have said it could be the Crankshaft Sensor.

Volvo - 240 :: 1988 - Losing Power / Rattling In The Engine

I have a 1988 Volvo 240 DL station wagon that has been in my family since just before I was born. It has somewhere around 300K miles on it (the odometer broke 7 years ago at 250K). It drives around town more or less fine, usually. But sometimes it loses power on me. Usually this happens when I take it on highways, up big hills, in situations where I need to accelerate quickly, etc. It just starts to slow down, and I have to downshift and ease slowly through whatever stretch of road I'm on until I can get back up to speed (usually on a downhill). It's not totally consistent--sometimes it has this problem, other times it doesn't.

The car will go through stretches where it runs fine, then I'll have this problem on a highway, and then it's a little more likely to happen for a period after that (even on surface streets). This has been happening in some form for a few years. When I first had the problem, it happened continually until I heard a terrible rattling in the engine. When I took it in, they found that a spring in the piston/cylinder had broken off and shot up, breaking the cap off one of the cylinders (sorry for the lack of a more technical explanation).

When they fixed that, the problem seemed to go away for a while, but eventually came back (though there has been no rattling since). The most recent time, it had been running around town just fine. Then I took it out on the highway and really lost power--had to slow it down to 35-40mph going up a hill on a 55mph highway. For the rest of the drive it struggled up hills, even as low as 2nd gear. But on my drive home (about 1.5 hours later), the car ran smoothly (though I continued to baby it, and there were fewer upward hills). Since then, even around town it sometimes feels like it might lose power again, but it never becomes a huge issue because I haven't demanded a whole lot of the car.

After that long-winded explanation, I'm wondering: could this be something as simple as spark plugs? Or is this definitely a bigger issue with the engine? If it's a cheap fix, I'm happy to go for it, but if it will require putting several hundred (or more) into the engine, I'm inclined just to let it limp along until it's finally time to take the car out back and shoot it. Figuratively, of course.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 GLS - Knocking / Clunking Sound While Coasting

My 2000 Jetta GLS is producing a clunking/knocking sound from the front end (possibly left-front) ONLY while coasting and going straight. It mostly goes away if I turn left or right and totally goes away when I give the wheels engine power or when I brake.

I recently replaced my front-left control arm due to a thrashed rear bushing. I didn't replace the bearing as I didn't have a pickle fork. Not sure if this is related.

Oldsmobile - Bravada :: 2000 - Runs But Won't Move / Coasting Backwards

We pulled out of the parking garage going up the hill it acting like i was in neutral all of a sudden. it was running fine but i was coasting backwards. After checking the tranny fluid it was mostly gone so as my wife and kid sat in the still running car I went for fluid. I put in in and then drove up that hill went around the corner and it did it again. Then i got towed home. When its cold it works when I drive a little this happens. Its on all gears and no matter how much gas I give it there is no attempt at shifting and no weird noises.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Manual Transmission Whine - Louder When Decelerating?

I have a 2002 Accent with a manual transmission with just over 100K. It has for some time had a low whine, which is getting worse. Not wheel bearings. The whine increases with speed, and seems a little louder when decelerating. Makes the sound in every gear and when in neutral (coasting at speed). Brought it into a mechanic and he thought bearings in the transmission (though I don't know why it would make the same sound when in neutral . . .). Shifts through all of the gears fine, no other odd sounds. Can't find any information out there that sounds like my situation.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Engine A Little Louder After Timing Belt Change

My mechanic just did the timing bet, water pump and other belts. Also changed the tensioner.

Car runs fine and everything seems great until I get to a red light. The engine sounds louder then before. Not very loud but its louder and maybe a very slight vibration, not sure yet. No noises while driving, seems like its running the same or better then before. Runs fine though

Volvo - 240 :: Whine / Rattling Mostly Centered In Dashboard Area When Cold Outside

I have a few questions about my 1987 240 DL volvo. First, it's been making a funny, whiny, rattling noise (mostly centered in the dashboard area) whenever it get's too cold outside. I know that taking apart a dashboard on an old volvo is really hard, but it the noise worth the effort? So far I've noticed no problems with how the car runs. Second, there is a small button on the left side of the gear changer, when a press it a lighted forward arrow appears under my speedometer. What is this button for?
