The car required a new water pump, the mechanic suggested to also replace the serpentine belt because of age - after a week the car made high pitch noise when started, the noise stopped after the initial start-at the shop it was explained that a new serpentine belt requires tightening after the car has been driven for a while - like a week- is this correct or was the belt not installed correctly....

Over the past months, I've noticed the engine noise on acceleration sounds a bit louder than I would expect it to, and it seems to be getting louder over time. It's slow changing, so I'm a little unsure. And occasionally I wonder if I don't hear a sound that shouldn't be there, though I couldn't describe it yet. Mechanic said the acceleration noise is normal at start-up for older cars until they get warm, but this happens even after I've been driving a while. Worth the $100 for an engine checkup?
Also, the A/C doesn't seem to be the strongest and has a high pitch noise when I run it. Normal?
My girlfriend has a 2008 with around 120k miles on it. It's been pretty flawless but yesterday the RPMs started surging while idle and made kind of a high pitch humming noise when accelerating.
Today on her way to work she said the radio was going in and out, the battery light lit up and then the rest of the dash lights came on, and the speedometer stopped working.
What could be the problem? Could it just be the battery?
i have a 96 toyota celica sx which makes a horrible noise when i start it, its almost like a high pitch rattling noise, usually goes away when it warms up but sometimes still making it accelerating, think the noise is coming from area which is in the photo, what it is?

This high frequency disturbance is audible with the engine off (eliminating the alternator as being the source). This is also present with the volume set to a minimum.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2007 Sonata, 2.4L 4cyl. and it is making some weird noise as of late. I have done some research and from what I have read it seems like it may be a bad engine mount. One thing to note is that the noise really only happens when the car is cold and hasn't warmed up yet or on a cold day.
Basically the best description is that the noise is a high-pitched rattle/vibration noise. The noise seems to match the vibrations of the engine but doesn't seem to get more intense if I rev the engine. The noise does get quieter if I put it in neutral but it is still there. The noise also happens even if the car is parked and off, and I do something like shut the door or trunk. I haven't gotten a chance to get in there and look under the hood myself to try...
I have a 2009 Toyota Yaris with 35,000 miles, and fully up-to-date with all the 5,000-mile usual maintenance checks [no prior problems]. Driving on a hot day, I hit Bakersfield and the car started to make a high-pitched whining noise, which got louder with the accelerator and softer when I took my foot off the gas. I thought perhaps the car was overheating and let it rest for a while, and checked the coolant [which was at a normal level]. I finished the drive to LA and stopped by the Toyota dealer who said it must have just been the fan given the hot weather.
The noise went away overnight, but the next day I was driving around town when it was overcast and cool, and even driving locally, the car made the whining noise intermittently, especially loud at low speeds like coasting in a parking lot, and the noise has been getting louder and sounding more pathological--not like a normal engine or fan noise, but like a truly problematic high-pitched straining sound. Sometimes it comes on when I start the car, sometimes restarting the car makes the noise go away for an hour or two.
It sounds almost like an electric razor being whipped around like a numchuck - a hitch pitched whine that is rotating in the engine and speeds up with the accelerator and calms down but doesn't go away at a stoplight. Perhaps I finally ran over my neighbor's annoying kitty. But today's latest Toyota mechanic also couldn't figure it out because the noise didn't start when he turned on the car and didn't restart on his test drive, but only a few hours later after I'd driven the car around town.
My 07 SCREW 5.4L 4x4 has 77,000 miles and has a high pitch whining noise on front right side of engine. Sounds worse in the cold,increases with RPMs.

View 10 RepliesI've got a 2006 Prius - bought new in 2006. Yesterday I started to hear a high pitched whine or hum from what sounds like the front right side of the car. I hear it when the car reaches about 48-50 mph and seems to increase as you go faster. Once I let off the accelerator the sound slowly goes away. I know there are a lot of noises from the Prius, but this is one I've not heard before.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2008 Toyota Yaris S Sedan. I've had it for 5 years, and it currently has 63,000 miles. About 3 years ago, it started stalling out while I was driving. It was only occasional, but it soon got worse and more frequent.
First problem: It would stall out when I would drive 35 MPH or under when it was 20 degrees or colder or when parked in direct sun. It would stall while driving and after I stopped or in Park.
Second Problem: It would stall out when I would drive 70 MPH or under, while driving, no matter the weather conditions.
Third Problem: On cruise control, the car would loose speed and drop down to 50 MPH then leap forward and speed up to 90-95 MPH before settling back on 73 MPH.
Fourth Problem: It jerks while driving. It'll start to stall, then speed up, then start to stall, then speed up, repeat once more then speed up.
Fifth Problem: When the first three problems occurred, the car would shake during and after.
I've taken the car in seven times to two different Toyota dealerships, with nothing found. They were able to recreate the stalling issue, but none of the others. I contacted the Toyota company and they opened an inquiry, but found nothing and closed the case. I need this car to last me a couple more years. What the problem could be and if it's fixable?
I have a 1995 Lexus ES300 with 130,000 miles on it. When I reverse, I get a low-pitch growling and as as soon as I apply the brakes by a high-pitch, ungodly screech. This noise is definitely coming from the rear wheel areas. I'm not sure which tire is the culprit (I hear both sides from while listening from both the inside and outside). It happens frequently but is particularly bad on rainy, snowy, misty, or high humidity days. Two years ago I replaced the pads and rotors. At this point, the pads look to have about 40% life on them yet. This problem started happening about a year ago.
My initial thoughts were that it was just rusting because of the frequency on high moisture days. But both noises are way too loud for that. My second speculation was that the emergency brake was catching, but after examining it I think not. I've taken the entire assembly (brakes, rotors calipers, and emergency brake) at each tire apart and looked for any obvious issues that look incorrect. No luck. I've also applied brake quiet with similar results. Now my thoughts are that the low pitch is the rotors being warped. But that doesn't explain the screech and why it only occurs in reverse.
I just bought a 2007 es350 yesterday with 67k miles. When I test drove the car, the highway was too congested to get the car above 50 mph. So, the car sounded fine to me and I purchased it with a free 90 day, 3k mile powertrain/engine/transmission warranty. The car should still be under its standard 7 year 70k mile warranty as well, right?
Fast forward to today. The highway was less congested and I was able to get the car up to 80 mph. However, I noticed a constant hum start at 60 mph, which became louder and more high pitch at 75 mph. I am taking this back to the Lexus dealership from where I purchased it to get the sound diagnosed and repaired. I'm hoping it's a problem still covered by the warranty, like the differential (does the ES350 have a differential since it's fwd) or pinion bearings. Could it be something simple, like a bad tire?
My 2007 Prius Touring creates high pitch Squeak/Whistle sound while accelerating and braking, But if I put the car on neutral then the sound completely goes away. I have all the holes covered on the both side mirrors and this still occurs. The sound is constant for as long as I accelerate and Brake and the intensity varies with how hard I accelerate or brake, It also does that during regen braking when I leave the accelerator. What could be wrong?

View 11 RepliesMy friend and I both have the MK4 R32. He had a bunch of stuff replaced in the engine. (a bunch of plastic parts that are super expense, the timing chain, something related to the guide, basically the plastics that holds the engine cushion/absorb) Anyways, his engine sounds great and quiet at the same time with a little high pitch noise when the RPM is hanging in between 1K and 2K.
Our cars were in the garage and I did the same thing and it sounded NOT quiet, a lot more noise than his. There was an obvious difference in noise coming from the engine with the hood open. I do have cams and a light weight pulley. Can that have an affect on the engine noise? If I am not making sense, then i should probably video record the sound or take it to the dealership for a check up. Also, I am at 93K.
I have a 2007 Prius 3 Touring Edition. I purchased it new in Dec. 2006. I have had NO issues with my favorite car of all time, and currently have 90,600 miles. I have noticed a high pitch for a long time coming from the transaxle during acceleration. The pitch is only present when MG1 or MG2 is engaged. The pitch stops in stealth mode. My finance also has a 2007 Prius, and her's does not make the noise or whine when I drive her vehicle.
I have changed the transaxle fluid at 65,000 miles, but I did not see the plug when it was changed so I don't know how much, if any, shavings were stuck to the magnetic bolt. If you are wondering, yes, the high pitched noise was present before the fluid change. Also, as I accelerate and increase speed, the noise pitch increases.
Is my transaxle displaying a tell-tale sign of imminent failure?
I have a 2009 Gen. II with 48000 miles on it and it started having a high pitch noise when driving. Thought it was wind noise at first but does it at low speeds also. When you roll the right passenger side window down you can hear it much louder sounds like it is coming from the right front.
