Toyota - Matrix :: 2009 Intermittent Airbag / Seatbelt Alarm Light?
Nov 16, 2012
My 09 Matrix passenger seatbelt/Airbag Alarm light started to come off intermittently a few months ago. It often came off in a cold morning (when temperature dropps below 40F) after driving for 30+miles. I have taken it to a mechanics and they found an airbag code. They cleared the code but cannot find the root cause. I saw from some online forum that it happened to a lot 05 Matrix and repair involves replacing the clock assembly eventually. It seems to be odd since it only happened to me when it is cold and after some driving. I suspect that it has something to do with the battery since the battery output voltage may be the only thing I can think of that can be temperature dependant.

The warning light on the dash is on that shows the seatbelt and airbag. What does tis mean as the book only says to take it to a dealer.

I just purchased a used 2010 Toyota Corolla with Airbag Light ON (not blinking). Yes car was in an accident, but Air Bags did not deployed as per the seller. It needs to re-calibrate by Dealer.
As a novice, and avid Toyota person, since it's a good deal I decided to take the car with the airbag lights on. I have seen on youtube, the cause is likely the spiral cable.

A squirrel chewed through some wires in my 2009 Toyota Corolla. My left headlight went dim and my airbag light came on, all within a matter of days. I had the wires repaired and the airbag light never went off. I waited for months until I found out that my airbags won't deploy if I am in an accident. I did some research and from what I gathered until the problem is fixed the light will remain on, (Problem cannot be reset).
I took it to the same guy who fixed the wires .The code that came up was a faulty module. He said since my bags did not deploy the module most likely tripped and he could try to reset it. He tried to do it manually and by the SRS reader with no luck and told me I should go to a shop with a more advanced reader so they could try to reset the module and if that doesn't work go to Toyota.
Can this problem be reset? If it is reset how do I know there still is not a problem that needed to be fixed?

There is no problem starting the car- it always turns over immediately, but every 1 out of 7 - 10 cold starts includes a strange noise from the engine compartment. Just as I let go from the crank position, I hear a sound similar to that of playing cards being shuffled. The duration of the noise is just a second or two, just like the time it takes to shuffle once.
It never has happened when the car is still warm. I had the Toyota dealer look at it, but they couldn't reproduce the noise- not surprising, since I didn't leave the car overnight, and even if I had, it still would be unlikely to happen when needed. The noise has been happening for a year or so, and it doesn't seem to increase or decrease in frequency due to air temperature or weather.
I did have a lot of corrosion on the battery terminals last summer and had starting problems then, and had the mechanic clean the terminals and check the battery, and the battery was fine, yet the sound continues, but no further starting issues. What might be going on?

First week or so, the alarm was fine. It would go off if the passenger didn't have their belt on. Suddenly, it wouldn't shut off, even after the passenger put their seatbelt on. We went through the procedure to just disable it. It worked for a couple days.
Then it started going off again. It only happens if I have a passenger in the front seat. (I have two children in the back but they are in carseats and if it is just them and I, we have no problems, but if my husband is in the passenger seat - we have problems).
We went through the procedure to disable it and it didn't work this time. After more reading I realized the same procedure to disable it, enables it, too - sooo we did it a 3rd time to disable it, again. It worked.
Same trip, we got back in the car -everyone is buckled up and IT GOES OFF AGAIN!! I just want it disabled, period. It drives me crazy.
(It will stop dinging about 10 minutes into the drive but most my trips are under 10 minutes so that means all the time)

The airbag light in my 06 sonata has been on for the past couple days. And today I noticed when I was driving the car by myself the passenger seatbelt light was blinking and the passenger airbag light off bag wasn't lit? Even though there was no one in the passenger seat? I'm just wondering if there was ever a recall and if I should take it to the dealership.

I am installing Sparco Evo Seats, a custom Harness Bar and racing harnesses in my MK4 R32 and have questions about wiring of the airbag and seatbelt sensor. What do I need to do so the airbag light and seatbelt warning light do not come on.

I have a 2009 Toyota Prius. The airbag/srs light came on a couple weeks ago and would come and go. Eventually it came and did not go. This didn't really bother me as I don't drive it much anymore and I figured it would be gone by the next time I went to start it up. (I also heard about connections under the seat being loose and hoped that was the problem.) Well I was wrong. Today I noticed it was still there so I decided to start diagnosing. I jumped the connector as my obd2 scanner only reads regular and abs codes (not srs apparently).
The only code that came up was 51. Which is the driver side squib circuit. Many say that code 51 usually just ends up being the spiral cable. I simply find this odd as every button on my steering wheels works. Cruise control works fine etc. Idk how only 1 or 2 wires get messed up in that thing and how they turn out to be the ones for the airbag but I suppose its possible. My next step is to take a continuity tester to the 2 plugs that connect to the airbag to see if they are getting power.

I have a 2008 Toyota Camry that have a airbag light that stays on after I start my car and drive. However my passenger airbag stays off and the passenger seatbelt light blinks even when there's nobody sitting in the seat. When Someone does sit in the passenger seat with a seatbelt on, the light continues to blink along with the Airbag light showing off. How can I resolve this without going to the dealership?

I know i should probably go to the dealer but just want to know what's going on before going there. Basicly someone kicked my passenger side seat, and now the AIRBAG OFF light is on and the seatbelt sensor for the passenger side is not working. i.e if i remove the seat belt while driving the sound wont come on and the light indicating seatbelt is not on (is always on).

My 2006 Camry's airbag light has been on ever since I gave my cousin a ride. The passenger seatbelt chime no longer works after that ride, nor does the indicator saying there is a passenger in the seat.

I just bought a used Toyota Corolla 2009 LE. I found that the indicators for Low engine oil pressure warning, Charging system warning, and Malfunction/Check Engine are on when the engine switch at "On" and goes off after engine is started. Is this normal or something is wrong with the car?

My 2011 Toyota Matrix (with Moon roof) driver side interior light won't turn off. It's in the off position. I've checked all doors and closed them properly and turned the dimmer switch down.

I wanted to know where the door trigger is located and how exactly do i wire it to the viper system. After some research, i think that the door trigger wire is located about the kick panel at the bottom left connector, which would be a white/red wire. I have always tried this and never had luck.
Second question is when I actually do find the correct door trigger, which wire on the viper harness do i connect it to, The door trigger negative or the door trigger positive.

I have an airbag light indicator issue with my matrix 2009.
Whenever I start the car in cold, the indicator says " Airbag is off". After driven for like 30 mins and turn off and turn engine, everything is normal.

Recently I changed a turn signal switch on my VW Jetta 1994, and it turned out the new switch had a faulty horn/airbag connection (just not springin out enough), such that power was not being relayed - I figured this out when the horn would not blow, and on inspection I realized that there was a gap between the connector on the top of the switch and the horn. At the same time I realized that my problem was the signal relay, and not the switch. So I changed back to my old signal switch. The horn is now fine, but I have the airbag alarm light on. I am cannot think of anything I did wrong. So I am wondering whether the light could be coming on because of the initial error when there was no connection where the airbag signal keeps coming on even after the repair error is corrected, or does the alarm indicate a current error rather than a lingering memory of the error I had initially?

After I could not figure why I was having the alarm light I drove the car to a mechanic, explained my sleepless nights and many hours of problem analysis, and then the mechanic took his code reader, connected to the OBD car port, made a few clicks, and charged me $45 and then sent me off. The alarm light has not been back since - it blinks as expected when I start the car.
On my further research I have found that VW airbag light will come on if you check airbag with your ghetto OBD code reader - exactly what I had read! It registers "high resistance", and must be reset by someone with a qualified code reader!
