Toyota - Corolla :: Sudden MPG Drop From 35 To 18 - 20 Miles Per Gallon
Mar 31, 2013
My 2000 corolla has consistently gotten 35 MPG until last month, suddenly I've dropped to 18-20 miles per gallon, a friend suggested fuel filter fail, but i can't discern if it has an external one...

I bought a 2012 Prius new and averaged just under 53 miles per gallon for the first 15,000 miles regularly. I have a long commute so my driving mix of city/highway is pretty consistent. When starting the car one morning there was a fairly loud series of clicking sounds from the engine compartment, which then stopped. From that point forward the mileage has dropped to just under 50 mpg. Same driving habits. I am bringing the car if for it's 20,000 mile check up shortly. Any ideas if something happened to the battery I should ask about? It is still under warranty.

My corolla odometer is adding miles faster than usual all of a sudden. getting about 1.4 miles instead of just one mile. the car has 250,000 miles on it now... What can I do to adjust it, replace it, or what?
Also, when should rear brake drums be replaced. My bearings are bad so should I replace the drums too?

Recently my fuel gauge malfunctioned. It wouldn't register fuel in tank. When I filled tank a couple times gauge worked but as soon as a gallon was used it would drop off. Now gauge not working and wrench appears code flash 246c and check engine light on says reduced engine power and says drive to clean exhausts emissions. No miles to empty registered as it reads --- miles to empty.. Also... What's this about egr replacement and should I contact Ford for this as I had no notification.? I have 2011 f250 SD 6.7

My 2006 Toyota Corolla will suddenly decelerate for a period of 3 to 5 seconds. No warning lights come on and the engine does not cut out. This has been happening sporadically for about 2 years. It will occur 2 ot 3 times in a day of driving. The dealership says they cannot diagnose the problem since they can't duplicate it. The ECM was replaced several months ago. The car has 120000 miles on it. I just got a new battery and transmission fluid.

We picked up our 2009 prius about a month ago from a local dealer. At the time it was getting about 52 miles per gallon. Since then, we have driven about 1000 miles and now we are getting only about 41 miles per gallon. Are we doing something wrong that made the MPG drop over 10 miles per gallon.

I just bought a 08 Screw with the 5.4 3 valve, 4x4 with the 373 gears, and 25,000 miles on it. I love the truck, but what is the best that you have gotten for mileage on your trucks with the 373 gears? Does it do better at 75 mph or 55? I haven't checked mine yet so I am wondering what to expect...

Recently, my 2006 has been showing a decline in MPGs. I purchased a K&N filter several months ago hoping that it would work in getting better MPGs. I also watch my tire's air pressure, but the MPGs still fall off. I used to get around 43mpg in town and 45 to 47 on the highway. Now, I'm lucky to get 39mpg no matter where I'm driving.
I've been thinking of changing the spark plugs since I'm sort of grasping at straws. Also, someone told me that the older the battery pack (NHW20) gets the less MPGs I can expect. Maybe true maybe not! My Prius has a little over 60,000 miles on it and it shouldn't be loosing MPGs.

Having problem with 2010 Toyota Corolla. Engine light comes on as well as VSC and traction control but the engine does not shut off. I loose power and engine runs really rough. I have to pull over and unplug my battery cable and the problem is gone until a week or two later same thing happens. My gas mileage is about 10 km for every 100KM city and Highway mix. The engine idle is also rough and sometimes when I try to do a U turn or get in and out of parking the engine shuts off.
Engine scanned shows P0010 and it could be three or for causes? My problem is that mechanics change one thing which costs an arm and a leg then if that did not fix the problem they say now lets change another part? I can not afford to fix them one by one and get charged for it as they replace one part at a time.

My 2007 (with Nav package and aftermarket Sirius radio) recently started losing channel settings on the Sirius (not on the FM radio!), the dash clock resets, and, recently, the miles-per-gallon and miles driven since last fill-up reset to zero. These events are sporadic, but have started occurring more often. The dealer seems unable to figure out the problem.

2006 Toyota Corolla , 100k, manual transmission. Good maintenance, I know the car. The owner told me that the use of the highest setting of the blower motor will cause the engine idle to drop. I stopped-by his place and he started it up, engine was already warm due to recent use, he then turned on the heat, went through the blower settings. I watched the tach and saw the engine rpm drop by almost 300 when he turned it to high. Recent battery and cables (Summer 2014).

So my 1999 Corolla with 110K miles requires a quart of oil every time I fill the gas tank. It doesn't seem to be leaking; when I went away for two weeks there wasn't a nasty looking spot where it was parked. Yet, it guzzles oil like Bender on Futurama.
My mechanic said that he couldn't do anything to save the car. By the way, I am using 10w-30 in Southern California.

So, I've now had my 2015 F250 6.7 Diesel for about 2 weeks and I just turned over 1000 miles (damn I love driving this truck). And, I'm dying to find out if my mpg experience coincides with any other truck. With no load I am consistently getting right at 22.5 mpg at 70 miles per hour. With all in town driving and no load I'm holding right at 15 mpg. And I've noticed something else that seems odd. I'm actually getting a little worse mileage at 60 and 65 than I do at 70 miles per hour. What is going on there? Do these engines get a little better mileage as they get more miles on them?

I have an 05 corolla XRS. I just had a sport clutch put in about 1 year ago. Whenever I shift into 4th gear and accelerate, the RPMs drop about 500 and I lose power for about 3 seconds before it starts going back up. Other gears are acting normal. Best part is that I let my friend drive the car earlier and since he did it's been doing this.

So yesterday, I reset my trip meter when I put on gas. I did a 7 mile drive home (no highways) MPG was around 54. This morning, my husband pulls the car from the garage to the driveway to install my name plates. When I start the car, I noticed MPG was 41. What could have caused the sudden overnight shift from 54 to 41. I only drove 3 miles to work since then so it is hovering around 42. Could the cold morning start to back up from garage did something? Could he have left the power switch on (and it shut off automatically).

Our 2012 Tiguan (FWD) has been experiencing a sudden drop in MPG for the past two weeks. We had no significant change in climate or driving habits. With mixed driving, we dropped from about 24 MPG to 20 MPG. We had our 40K service done just two weeks ago.

I have an 08 2.0T and it just suddenly had a huge drop in gas mileage. I recently had new tires put on and an oil change (about 35k miles). getting closer to 40k miles now and wondering what could be causing this. Usually I get about 30-33 mpg easy on the highway. Now I'm getting 24-26 mpg. Already checked the tire pressures. they're to spec. no gas leaks from what i can see.

Our 2007 Prius had previously been averaging high 40s MPG but the past few weeks has dropped to around 38 and won't move much higher... we are using the A/C a little more than the past few months but not on full constantly or anything like that... first time I've seen MPG this low since we've owned the car (20 months).

I have a 2007 RX350, now at 110K miles, bought at 80K miles. I recently notice a sudden drop in mpg about 5K miles back (it might happen before that but I did not notice). Previously, the car gets around 25MPG on average, now it can only get 21 - 21.5 mpg, my range of a full tank drops around 60 miles. My route of driving everyday is pretty much the same. I have tried to change gas branch, using fuel system cleaner (Chevron Techron), check tire pressure but no luck.
What might be happening with the car that makes this significant drop in mpg?
I changed power steering rack and pinion at a dealer also about 5k miles back and at that point I had a dispute with a service consultant there. He made me drive back and forth a couple times without telling me that the part hadn't arrived yet (the car was on extended warranty). I then emailed directly to his boss. After that he treated me really well: gave me a most recent model loaner car for a week and did not charge for gas, and waived the deductible. Now I notice the MPG drop so I kind of link with this event and put him in doubt . Well, I'm not sure if he could do anything to the car since he's not the technician but still ... Can a guy put something to a car to reduce its fuel efficiency?
