I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla with 183,000 miles on it. My mechanic noticed that the right front strut was leaking oil. In addition to replacing it recommended getting a strut mount installed as well. Is this an necessary component at the age of my car or can just replacing the strut do the trick?

I just took my car (1984 Toy Corolla DX) to the mechanic and the right front strut fell from its mount. The mechanic lowered the vehicle and reinserted the strut. I drove it home, ever-so-cautiously. Is the car safe to drive for emergency trips (pay bills, buy groceries) until I can get it fixed next month?
I've got to replace a leaking front crankshaft oil seal. Haynes shows using a steering wheel puller with the two bolts installed, but without the center screw. Insert a socket and extension through the center screw hole. Hold the body of the puller with an adjustable to keep the crank pulley from turning while you loosen the pulley bolt. I've got an air impact. Would that hammer the pulley bolt loose without having to hold the pulley? I've also got a chain vise-grip, but I'm not sure yet if it would clear the other pulleys. Assuming I get this far, should I pry out the seal with a flat screwdriver wrapped in tape? Would it work to cut the rubber out of the seal first?
View 3 RepliesRight front strut is leaking. Guess it had to happen at some point. Dealer was unaware of history of support from VW due to changing system. Sent them to check in with VWNA about their paying for all but 1 strut. Fingers crossed. If this does not work, could spell the end of Phaeton ownership. Have owned 2004 V8 since new. Who has tried rebuilt struts?
Check engine light came on. Told is a thermostat (not a big deal, I guess) and cooling fan 2 is shot. Would some of labor be same required to replace timing belt? Need to do that soon and maybe can make more sense to do both. If not, may be time to take to someone other than dealer?
Had leak (passenger rear) up high. Was repaired, saying there was a broken part. With heavy rain, returned. They are checking further. I told them to be certain there is no clog. Any other thoughts?
Last night I was rotating my tires when I noticed my front right strut had burst, I think. There is oil all over the inside of the wheel well. I'm trying to attach a pic of it but not sure if it will work?
I'm 99% sure it is the strut, where could all this oil be coming from other then the strut? The metal rod on the shock is even wet with oil.
Can I replace just the one broken strut without changing the other side? Should I change the whole strut or just the shock in the middle of the spring? I'm thinking it is the easiest to replace the whole thing. Will I need a wheel alignment afterward?
Took 08 Camry w/50k miles for rotation & balance and Alignment check at my neighborhood Michel Tires Plus, was told left front strut is leaking an oily-type fluid. I bought the Platinum Warranty when I bought this car new. The warranty is 7 yr/100,000 miles and there is -0- deductible.
While reading my copy of the Platiunum warranty, it states Exclusions from Platinum Warranty coverage includes shock absorbers, but it says nothing about struts. So are struts covered ?
If Toyota refuses to pay for any repairs, is there any room for negotiation? At this time there is no unusual noise from the strut area of the car.
I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla. There are two plastic covers on the undercarriage of the vehicle in the front.. The front driver's side is loose; the oil change told me the little clips are broken and they used a "strap" to hook it back up. Well, on the Fla turnpike, the strap lasted about 30 minutes
View 2 RepliesOk so i just installed the trd front strut as my first"upgrade" on my 2009 corolla LE 2 days ago. Immediately i noticed when taking corners there was muchhh much less body roll which i love and i can take corners at a faster speed. BUT i have noticed at highway speeds it feels like the car is "swaying" left and right even if the car is moving in a straight line.Mainly the back of the car feels like its moving back and forth especially when its uneven roads while the front remains "even" Its quite unsettling as it feels like the back of the car will fishtail and lose control at any second.And yesterday it seems even at low speeds around 20 mph it feels like slight swaying. My question is, is this normal simply because everything else suspension wise is stock while the front has a strut bar? Maybe something else is wrong? Maybe its my imagination and its just the uneven roads?

View 2 RepliesI drive a 2006 Toyota Corolla, and I've noticed e a squeaky noise coming from my passenger side front wheel. The noise only occurs when I am accelerating the car and driving between 20-40 mph. As I accelerate, the squeaks increase in frequency. They disappear when I brake.
A mechanic replaced the front brake pads two years ago (15,000 miles ago) and also shaved the rotors. About a year later, the squeaks began. I brought the car into a different mechanic at that time (because I moved) and asked them to take a look. They checked the brakes and said they looked good. They attributed the noise to metallic brakes as opposed to ceramic and said the noise would go away in time. The noise has persisted, however, and is becoming more intense.
What is going wrong? Could this be a CV joint or wheel bearing issue? A rotor issue?
When coming to a stop and turning the wheels to the left, there is a creaking noise from the right front strut. This is also the strut that has an ever so small clunking noise when going over small bumps at low speeds. If I turn left at low speeds but don't apply the brakes, there is no creaking sound.
Car has 42,000 miles, original Michelins and original front brakes (50% pad left), and original struts!
2006 with 110K. I did a search for rattles. My question is do these struts have bushings or shims that wear out over time. Going down the road car is nice and quiet. Hit some bumps and it sounds like it is coming apart.

The last couple places I took it to said the compression was bad in the number 4 cylinder. Another place said it was a leaking head gasket. Which is most likely, and is it worth getting it repaired given its age and mileage?
View 13 RepliesThe fuel filler vent line rotted off so I had the gas tank and fuel pump replaced in September. Drove the car for 2 months without a problem until last week.The car lost power then stalled. I smelled gas and found that there was a large amount of gas pouring out of the bottom of the vapor canister.I bought a new one (very expensive for a plastic can) and put it on. Drove the car a couple days and then it happened again. Someone told me not to over fill the tank but I never did. In fact, this doesn't happen right after I get gas. Its a couple days after I get gas that it happens. I had two different auto mechanics look at it and neither one of them could figure it out.
View 3 RepliesI have an '89 Corolla with a very odd leak. There is what seems to be engine fluid dripping on to the brake pedal. My oil level is good- no apparent drop in levels and it's clean- coolant is good, brake fluid is good. The leak smells a bit like engine oil, is dark gray/ black and slippery.
Local mechanic says it sounds like a bad heater core. (The heat is working great however.) I recently replaced the distributor cap and wires/ air filter as it was misfiring like nobody's business. Running fine now
This is a second car I bought a year ago to leave on the east coast for summers. it's been really reliable- ice cold AC, great heat, great gas mileage/. Did start to over heat once this summer, but not bad.
I just had my oil changed and was told that my rack and pinion was leaking also my valve cover leaked I had the gasket change about a year ago an the leak is so slight it wont even show up in my dip stick, is it possible the valve cover leak is getting on the rack boot. Also can I change just the boot car has 15000mi in great shape an well maintained.....

View 1 RepliesMy mechanic told me today that one of my struts on my 2006 Mazda3 (with 110k miles) is leaking and that the strut needs to be replaced. Is this something that has an impact on safety, or is it something I can stretch for a while longer? Is the strut going to break if it is leaking? Also, wouldn't I have to replace both of them?
View 19 RepliesJust had my car at the dealer for the airbag recall and was told one strut and one shock are leaking. the car only has 66,000 miles on it and i don't drive it that much as i also have an electric Fiat. This sounds a bit unreasonable to me. will definitely take it to an independent shop for 2nd opinion. 2008 Subaru Outback....

Now wanna know what are my options can I change just the one rear side which is leaking and do I have to put the oem or can I put anything aftermarket.
