My '01 Corolla occasionally makes a soft groaning noise after the car is in park and turned off. It doesn't happen all the time, and I haven't been able to correlate it with anything. The noise seems to be coming from the front somewhere. I took it to my mechanic but of course it wouldn't do it for him. What might be causing this?
View 14 RepliesI have a 1991 Toyota Corolla Wagon (150,000 miles) with noise coming from right front wheel well. My car is making groaning and creaking noises like the hinges of an old wooden door. CV joints serviced <5000 miles and the boots are clean and intact. There is no clicking noises during a turn Left or Right. Bouncing the right front corner does not replicate the sounds, tho' there is some slight squeaking noise not heard from the shocks/struts in the other corners. The sound is NOT heard in the morning going to work, but is very noticeable driving home at 5pm. I notice the sound going downhill at 35 mph, but goes away with light braking, Going over railroad tracks does not affect the noises. I'm thinking this could be worn bushings, strut mounts or who knows what?

View 4 RepliesI have a 2007 ES350 with 85k miles. I've noticed that whenever the AC is turned on, there is an audible grinding/groaning type noise coming from the engine bay. If I turn the AC off, the noise immediately stops and returns as soon as I turn it back on.
I've also noticed that the noise only occurs when the car is in drive or reverse. If I switch to park or neutral, the noise immediately stops.
I had the serpentine belt as well as two idler pulleys replaced in hopes of solving the problem but the noise is still present. Any other troubleshooting I can perform to narrow down the problem?
I am hearing a really strange "groaning" or grunt noise right after the engine turns over. The colder is the louder it is. It only lasts about a second. It's only when the engine is cold.
View 1 RepliesMy 2001 Corolla w/80k developing a considerably loud spark knock/engine pinging noise under acceleration. It throws no codes but pings like crazy and it never used to. It's happened gradual over a long period of time. I've cleaned the throttle body and have done all regular tune up items with no improvement. It doesn't ping at all on 93 octane, does some on 89 and terribly so on 87. Why is this? Does the 93 octane just act a a richer mixture of fuel to alleviate the ping? Should this sign point me in the direction that it's definately a lean issue causing the pinging?

View 4 RepliesMy wife's 2009 Toyota Corolla is possessed and it's gotten her so frustrated she brought home a new puppy two days ago.
Over the last two weeks we've noticed a handful of times, after we've turned off the car and left it (with the interior headlight control in the off position) that we'd go out to the garage only to find the car's headlights on. (Keep in mind, it has a sensor that will automatically activate the headlights in dim light but this only is supposed to happen when the car is on.) It began having issues starting and yesterday it wouldn't turn over. Yet, when turning the ignition, it made a sound different than I've heard on the car when it has a dying/dead battery. Before calling the tow truck, I tried jumping it. The car did turn over -- and the headlights immediately came on (might have been the sensor in the dark garage, but they come on almost immediately rather than after a brief delay). Yet it died quickly after and wouldn't start again. My neighbor, however, smelled gas and suggested the engine might be flooded.
The car was towed to my mechanic -- who's a good guy. He just called and said the car turned on for him without a problem and he can't find anything despite running a battery of tests. He said he just doesn't want to swap stuff out without knowing there's an issue.
So, what could possibly be causing the car's headlights to go on when the car is completely turned off and the internal knob for the headlights is also in the off position? And could it be related to the car not turning over -- or did my wife flood the car when she tried to turn it over yesterday morning, creating a wholly separate issue?
I have a 1996 Toyota corolla. it has been working fine until recently. I had problem starting the car intermittently. When I turned the key, it sounds like it cranks but the car would not start. If I tried it again after a minute or two, it would start again. It happens twice to me already so far. It has been around 4000 miles since my last oil change. And my engine oil has been leaking slowly for years (probably due to bad gasket) and I checked regularly and made sure the Engine oil is filled up to Full level. I haven't brought it to a mechanics yet but I would like to know what could be the issue.
View 4 RepliesI have a 94 Corolla with 239 K After pulling into my drive way and turning the car off I went back to start it ..Car turned over but no start ...ok backed the car out of the drive used the other car . Came back the next day car started pulled it back into the driveway ....Went to start it again later that day ..no start this happened for a couple of days ..It would start and then it wouldn’t..... Checked the fuel pump ..its not working ..The relay is good ..
There is power coming into the fuel pump but. Only one lead with power ...I power the fuel pump direct and it works ...I take it to a shop to have them look at it and they say I have no spark and that there is power going to my fuel pump ..he said there was power but he did not say if the fuel pump worked ...The gas gauge works but the fuel pump still .
So the fuel pump works if i power it direct and I have no spark ..so I could change the distributor & coil and go back to checking ground wires to the fuel pump BUT anything else going on that might be causing these issues. The car was running perfect before this happened.
Today I parked my 2014 Toyota Corolla while the shift was in drive and I turned off my engine. I let go of the brakes and it began to move backwards. I then realized what happened and shifted to Park and took out the keys and turned the engine back on to park it correctly. The on screen display seemed to restart or something when I did so. Will this hurt my vehicle? It is a CVT transmission by the way.
View 19 RepliesA friend of mine owns a 2002 Toyota Corolla with around 100k miles on it and it has some sporadic problems. Once in a blue moon the engine light comes on because of a misfire and seems to be around the same time it is humid and wet out (suggesting spark plug wires). However it recently sat overnight, after a slow rain, and would not even turn over the next day. The lights are not dimmed in the car but there is only a faint hum when the key is turned. What is wrong?

It has done this since shortly after I bought the vehicle. Dealer has checked cabin air filter and says it is OK.
View 5 Replies2001 f150 xl with 151800 miles 5.4l had it for a few years now I get a humming type groaning coming from up front. only when in 4x4 and only at lets say 25 mph to 45 mph .seems to be worse when slowing down especially the slower you get then around 20 or 25 its gone. it is still quite noticeable on acceleration and after 45 its gone. Truck has always been a little noise while in 4x4 weather it was an issue that had already started or if that's how it is. This is my first 4x4 truck.
View 5 RepliesI own a 2001 Toyota Echo. When I turned on the air conditioner, the fan would run, but there was no cooling. I took it to the Toyota dealer for repair, and the problem was a bad compressor. The compressor was repaired and the a/c worked. Twelve days later, the a/c would not cool. I took it back to the dealer, and the problem was "Found clutch melted to AC compressor." Fortunately, the repair was still under warranty, so there was no extra charge. I had never heard of the "magnetic clutch assembly" melting itself to the AC compressor.

It happens most times I turn my car on in the morning, after it has been sitting off and untouched for the night. When I am turning the car on afterwards throughout the day, the noise is less likely to appear.
I recently took my car in and got the water pump and belt replaced, because a few months ago I was driving down the highway and I heard a similar noise coming from under the hood, and I opened the hood and red coolant liquid was splashed everywhere. I am not knowledgeable about cars at all, but the dealership replaced the water pump and the belt and that seemed to fix that issue, but the grinding noise upon ignition is still there.
I took it into the dealership, but they were not able to replicate the issue because it had not been the first time the car was turned on for the day, so there was no grinding noise. I would like to know if it is the water pump or belt, since those are still under a 2 year warranty with the dealership. Otherwise, I need to know what this is so I can get it fixed.
I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla. It's been a fine car, but has one problem--since 2003, when we bought it (used by an old lady who drove it only to the grocery store and to church once in a while), it's been using more oil than it should--more than a quart every 1,000 miles. It doesn't smoke, and there are no leaks, so it must be burning oil. My husband says it may be because the first owner (that old lady) didn't break it in according to your recommendations, and we'll always have this problem with the car. What do you think? Is there any way to cure it?
View 8 RepliesI have 2001 Toyota Corolla which has 100k plus miles on it. I have recurrence problem with car not starting. After i jump start, it works. I took it to mechanic to get its battery(2 year old) and alternator checked out. The mechanic looked at it, and told me everything is working just fine. He started it and i was able to start it. Problem solved for a couple of weeks.
However, yesterday getting out from work, It came back. Had to jump start and make it work again. is there something i am not doing correctly?
My daughter's 2001 Corolla (3-speed transmission) is stalling in the rain. Twice in the last week it has stalled when pulling away from a stop sign. Both times she was able to restart the car and continue driving. The check engine light is not on (it works). The MAF sensor & O2 sensor (closest to the engine) were replaced last year. Would a faulty coil pack on 1 cylinder cause the car to stall?
View 2 RepliesI've been getting a P0133 trouble code on my 2001 Toyota Corolla and am stumped as to what is causing it. I've ruled out the obvious stuff: I replaced the upstream O2 sensor and can vouch for the lack of exhaust leaks, since I replaced the entire exhaust system myself a few months back and checked again for leaks after getting the code a few weeks back. I haven't replaced the spark plugs yet (they're definitely overdue) or cleaned the MAF sensor (I've heard that these could be the culprits) and will probably do both this weekend.
