I am trying to diagnose a sound that is coming from my 2001 Camry 2.2L. When I accelerate there is a load humming noise coming from the engine. It happens at all speeds and only when I accelerate.
View 6 Replies1999 ford expedition 5.4L ....I have been hearing a loudish (I can hear it in the cab) humming noise coming from the engine bay. I don't hear it when the truck is cold (1 to 5 minutes after starting), seems to get louder at it its peak (the more I drive). When i open the hood, the humming is coming from the intake. I am a pretty handy guy, just at my witts end right now....not sure, but I was thinking brake booster?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2006 lexus es 330 that just turned over 90,000 miles. My dad and I have done the regular maintenance on it so far but this weekend after a 3 hour drive, I turned the car back on and a loud whirring/humming/whining noise was coming from the engine. It gets slightly louder with acceleration, but I can barely hear it once I've picked up speed (but it's still there.) It still happens when I am in neutral. It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side of the engine. Close to the power steering pump area, but the power steering fluid is full (although it is a very dark/black color and has a slight smell...not sure if this is normal.) I'm not having any trouble or hesitation while steering. The rack is operating smoothly and it is not leaking. I plan on taking it into the shop but wanted to go in educated.
View 3 RepliesWhy my transmission is acting up. its recently started humming/whining when accelerating. it sort of sounds like the power steering when you turn your wheel to far on an older car. it recently started happening (3-4months ago) and I am not to happy since its pretty much a year old. Is it covered under the limited lifetime warranty? it has 28000 miles on it, v6, automatic, and its the xle version.
View 14 RepliesOur 2012 camry se had a problem with the fuel pump running when the engine was off. Several hours after we came home I went into the garage for something and heard a humming noise. First thought was a distant neighbor using a leaf blower, then realized it was coming from the rear of car. definitely coming from gas tank area. Turned key on, then off and noise was gone.

My husband and I notice a high pitch humming noise that happens mainly on the freeway, when you get over 45 mph. We tried ruling out different things like, bluetooth, radio, air conditioner, wind noise etc. We realized that the noise happens with you push on the accelerator pedal. If you hold the pedal to maintain speed, it does not happen. Only when you push the accelerator pedal. The noise was more noticeable when I drove it up in the mountains and had to push on the accelerator pedal off and on to maneuver turns and up hills.
I figure that we can bring it up to our dealer in October at our 5,000 mile service.
I just purchased a 2011 Toyota Camry with about 36,000 miles on it. Within the past couple weeks, the transmission began producing a very loud and uncomfortable whine when accelerating at low rpms. The sound resembles that of a kazoo or a super charger. I've taken the car to several dealers and have been told that it's a "normal" noise for the 2011 Camry. To test the validity of this comment, I asked to test drive a few other 2011 Camry's and only a couple made this same noise. The dealer did replace the power steering pump, as he thought that might be causing the noise. However, the noise is still present and seems to get louder with each day I drive the car. I do not believe this noise is normal.

I am experiencing a loud noise which is getting worse from inside my engine compartment. I took off the heat shield assuming it was coming from the exhaust manifold but it is not. It sounds more like it is coming from the intake manifold. Now I would assume it was the intake manifold issue that has been described in many threads but it is not a vibration or clanging sound. It just sounds like air is escaping from my intake. What baffles me is that the sound is loudest in drive. Then neutral is the next loudest, then reverse there is very little unordinary sound.
I hear it a little bit when I am going like 15-20 MPH in reverse and let off the gas to decelerate. There is a noticeable noise increase just at idle too. I checked and all fluid levels are good. I changed the tranny fluid about a month ago and according to the dipstick it is right on where it should be. The sound is increasing and I am worried about what it may be. It sounds as if it has an exhaust leak but I do not see anything.
I have a 2000 Toyota Camry with about 136,000 miles on it. Recently because it was making a loud noise and because the check engine light was on we got the exhaust system changed at Coles and this made the car silent as before.The mechanic there checked the check engine light code and reset it and he said it was an Evap code.He checked the fuel cap and found it to be OK. He said that if it comes back again I have to get it checked by some one who has a smoke machine to detect the leak and this could cost me about $100/- to set it right.The check engine light has come back again.
View 4 RepliesProblem that developed after our 03 xle got whacked by a Harley in the right front wheel. The repair shop changed out the spindle and wheel but we got it back with a loud humming noise over 40 mph. The shop said it was the axle shaft bearing and not related. I argued and the insurance company reluctantly agreed to replace the shaft,bearing, and housing. Got the car back and again, the same humming only less faint and obviously coming from the trans. Everyone is dodging responsibility and it looks like we are left to sort things out on our own. Figures. This car road perfectly prior to the accident. I can't find any online diagrams of the trans to see what the shaft fits into. Supposedly the shop is holding on to the old shaft, I was going to go and look at the end splines, I believe that's what it has.
View 2 RepliesAs I accelerate, there is a humming noise that comes from the transmission area of the car. It does not make the noise when I am in idle, nor if i put the transmission in neutral and rev the engine.
When driving slow the noise is very subtle. As I accelerate faster the noise gets louder. The noise becomes the loudest at 60 mph. Above 60 it seems to calm down some. The noise is like a constant, deep humming sound. The noise gets softer as I slow down and then is gone when at idle again. To me it seems related to the speed of the tire or the CV half shafts turning or something rubbing in the transmission as the car goes faster. However the sound doesn't change when the transmission shifts. It stays constant and only gets louder as I go faster and then softer as I slow down.
While driving and turning hard to the left the sounds almost disappears until the car straightens out again. I have replaced the struts on all four wheels and this seems to only have caused the sound to get louder. I have also inspected the CV joints. There doesn't seem to be any cracks or signs of wear to all 4 joints. And I repacked the bearings.
The only other things I can think of is the cv half shafts are actually bad and need to be replaced. Or the motor mounts are not aligned/worn out and need to be replaced. Or the kickdown band and low reverse band on the transmission need to be readjusted. Or the transmission is has a problem (however it doesn't slip when driving).
As I begin to accelerate a humming sound from the front of the car begins. The noise becomes more pronounced the faster I go. No additional noise is made when I brake or turn, nor does it appear to be any noise when I went in reverse. I made a 180 mile trip on Sunday with no problems, although I did travel at closer to 55mph than 65. The car has 170,000 miles on it and has had most of its scheduled maintenance performed.

View 4 Replies2005 Jetta. The car makes a loud deep humming noise once I hit about 75mph, and goes away once I get to about 82 or so. I've taken it out of gear and matched the rpm I get at those speeds, and I don't hear the noise at all. It's only when I'm in gear. What this could be?

When I turn the key on it stops I made a video but you cant hear it to good I will post video later. What that can be ????
View 9 RepliesI have a couple of things going on with my 2014 Toyota Camry. My car was in a recent rear end collision and I noticed the other day that my rear window defroster is no longer working. I waited 15 to 20 minutes and still nothing. The side mirror defrosters work fine. One button turns on both my rear and side mirror defrosters. The extent of the rear damage did not go past the trunk lid. They did replace the lid, but I'm not sure why that would make a difference. The rear window was not replaced. There was also some quarter panel damage underneath that required welding. It was working fine before the body work and now it's not working. Would could be the likely cause? I'd rather fix it myself if it's quick, rather than spending time taking it back tot he body shop.
The other problem...I was on a road that had a drop off on my passenger side. The lane slightly narrowed for some odd reason for just for a few feet. The front right side tire went off road and the front of my car hit the pavement pretty hard. I couldn't see any damage underneath, but of course that doesn't mean there isn't any. When I was driving to work this morning I could hear a humming noise that only got louder as I drove faster. It wasn't a continuous hum. You could hear a break in between hums but the breaks were more frequent the faster I drove. I'm not too sure what that is either? A wheel bearing?
2005 jetta. On the highway when I hit about 75mph I hear this loud humming coming from either the engine or the exhaust, I'm not sure. It disappears immediately once I cross about 82mph. What could this be? Why such a specific range?

Drove it this am, did it to me too while idling in D with foot on brake... humms for about 1 min, and then stalls the engine... If I rev the engine, was still doing it... but came and went when I was driving then till I got her home...
I know there is a black plastic cap that makes a similar noise but not as loud, this seems like something else... and the fact it stalled the truck is bothersome... it started up then fine, but still. The only thing that is the same as when wife had it, is that both of these days are like under 10 degrees outside... So, me thinks MAP? or something else that doesn't like these REALLY cold temps? or??

View 3 RepliesWhen accelerating there is a noise that seems to come from the exhaust (can not be duplicated not in gear). This noise got louder recently, and then the noise stopped. When the noise stopped, the check engine light illuminated as well as the VCS and VCS off lights. Is there a common cause for this and/or trouble shooting steps that should be followed?
