The ABS light comes on in the dash. This is in addition to the check engine light which was determined to be a sensor. What does the ABS light mean? what will it cost to fix?

View 10 RepliesI've had my Avalon at the Toyota shop more than 12 times with the same problem...a/c light on dash flashes off and on. The A/C system shuts down. Sometimes the command center says check A/C.
We have gone through the replace game, compressor twice, relay four times, too much refrigerant-to little refrigerant multiple times and loose wire multiple times.
This is supposed to be a Toyota Certified car if that means anything. The car has 86,000 miles.
The "Check Engine Light" is on. When I brought it in for the annual inspection (NY), the diagnosis was "lean fuel mixture". The fuel filter was replaced (the car has over 110,000 miles on it), and some adjustments were made in the computer, or the sensors (I don't remember which). It was found that one adjustment was effective at low speeds, and the other one was necessary for 2000 RPM. A valve cover gasket was replaced because of an oil leak, but I don't see how this could have contributed to the problem. I drove it for about 10 miles and the light went on again. What the cause might be?

I have had this problem since two weeks now. Basically I have bad tail light indicator on the dash and bad brakes indicator on the dash some times and some times not. Both come on at the same and turn off at the same time. But when the dash is lit, the car wont crank. Couple of tries later (15-20mins) later the warnings are gone and car starts.
This happens every time only in two gear positions i.e Par k and Neutral. After the said time gap, the two warnings start blinking. That's when the engine will crank. And after couple of tries, the engine comes to life. I have checked all the fuses, checked the battery, alternator, tail lights for lose wires But couldn't find anything solid.
I have a Toyota 2004 Prius and I have been having the airbag warning light on my dash for the past few days. I have 140K miles and do not have manufacturer warranty. What could it be causing it? Faulty seat weight sensor? Calibration issue?
View 15 RepliesI have a 99' Toyota Camry that has just turned over 150,000 miles. Two winters ago I noticed that the orange brake light on the dash would come on and stay on. But when the weather became warm again in the spring the dash light went off and stays off during warm weather, and then comes back on again when weather gets cold.
When the light initially came on the brakes worked fine and the pedal was nice and high and firm. I pulled the wheels and found the pads and shoes still had well over 70% of pad and shoe material remaining and the brake fluid is clean and full.
And even to this day the brakes work beautifully except for the dash brake light coming on when cold and going off when warm.
One other side note....I have NEVER used the emergency hand brake lever between the seats since I have owned the car. I have always been leary of using these hand brakes since I have had cars in the past that the brakes would seize in place and would not release when the lever was released. As a result, I never touch it. And I have never place my car in a situation where I would even need to use it.
April 2009, I bought a 2009 Toyota Venza which I totally love. About 2 weeks into ownership the battery went dead. I had it jump startd and all was well. In the time since I bought it, the battery has gone dead 5 times. Numerous trips to dealer and can't find anything. The final straw was when I was having car washed and the battery went dead. I had to call tow truck to drag me out of car wash an take car to dealer. This time they saidit was a bad battery. Now my dashlights are flashing dim to real bright and my TRAC light comes on so I can't put car into gear.

In the morning, once I get in and press engine start, there is a buzzing, d...zzz..d....d..zzz.zzz.... noise coming from the dash area. I turned the car off and restart, it went away. It happened once a while. This morning, same noise, I kept on driving, probably after 30 sec, it stopped..
I have a 2005 limited with 45000 miles. It sits in the garage most of the time. A couple of days ago I went shopping and I noticed the area around the passenger airbag was shiny. I could only see it when the sun hit just right. I wonder if it is the defective dash.
View 2 RepliesI have a 07 toyota avalon that will not start. About a week ago my wife goes to start the car and nothing. She got a jump and it worked fine for a couple of days. Then she was driving on Oct 25th and the car died out, so due to the battery being less than 6 months old the next step was the alternator. Had the alternator tested and it had to be replaced. We replaced it and it still will not turn on.

View 13 RepliesI recently bought a 2005 Toyota Avalon Xls with 90k miles on it. The car has been averaging a very disappointing mpg of 11-12 in the city and around 17 on the highway. (much lower than the advertised 22/30 mpg)
At first i thought the mpg gauge could be malfunctioning, so i calculated it myself and ended up with same result: 11 mpg in the city. I haven't taken it to a mechanic yet, but plan on doing so ASAP. What could be causing this issue.
This started pretty recently and i am hoping is won't cost too much to fix. If I drive the car for about 10 - 20 minutes it doesn't have a problem but past that it will start to shake during acceleration. I took the car to fire stone and was told that the axles and struts had gone bad and have replaced the axles. The problem is still there and i don't want to put too much money into the car if I might have to do some major repairs. The car has nearly 170,000 miles to date.

View 1 RepliesA couple months back my avalon started refusing to start, lights would come on with the key, but when i turned it, nothing but a click. after a few tries it would eventually start and run, usually for the day without issue again. After a while it got worse, and I had the battery tested. It was dead. So i replaced it. The car would still click the first couple times but start more readily then it had previously. Fast forward 2 weeks. I go to start my car, it does its clicking thing, then nothing. The whole car just dies. no lights, no clock, nothing. I gave it a minute and it came back on with dimmed lights and the antitheft system (which goes off if the battery is disconnected) goes off.
since then, i have successfully started the car 2x, but after each shut off, the clicking and no start issue returns. The battery cables are free of corrosion and its a brand new battery. I have seen issues with the starters and alternators on these cars on forums before, however with mine intermittently working, its slightly different. at least to my limited mechanical knowledge.
I have seen starter rebuild kits for fairly cheap online and alternator replacement options that look to be fairly easy with the tools that i have access to.
I have a XLS, purchased Certified Used just this last Nov. I am about to bring it back to the dealer for the 5th time for the exact same issue.
When driving usually between 35-50 mph at times a very profound vibration takes over the car. It feels almost identical to driving over groove strips on the side of the highway. It comes on gradually, about 2-3 seconds, then usually goes away after another few seconds. What I know about the issue (pertinent or not, I couldn't say. I know very little about cars):
1. It is intermittent, not too common. I will feel it at most a few times a week.
2. Going uphill seems to invoke the issue a little more.
3. I can accelerate through it. Usually a little punch of the gas, and it goes away. It seems to only occur when I keep the speed steady or am very gradually accelerating.
4. Once it occurs, it gradually gets worse. I could be off about this, but it only seems to occur after the car has been on the road for a little bit. I never recall having it happen right after starting it up.
What the dealership has done so far:
1. Suspension (balance, rotated tires)
2. Replaced two front tires (seems to be coming from the front)
3. Replaced front drive axle After the drive axle was replaced, I went the longest time yet with an issue (at least a month or more). I don't know what else to do. They are throwing darts at this thing, hoping something will stick. I ask 10 different mechanics, have 10 different opinions.
