Subaru - Outback :: Low Beam Is Very Dim And High Beam Doesn't Work?
Oct 2, 2011
I replaced the low beam and high beam on my Subaru, now the low beam is very dim and the high beam doesn't work. Careful not to touch the bulb.

View 3 RepliesI drive a 96 Subaru Legacy. What does it mean when one of the high beams is dimmer (less light output) than the low beam? I am using a brand-new bulb. It's not an adjustment issue because I was looking at the bulb when it was outside of the housing and it clearly gets dimmer when you switch to brights. However, they are equally bright when on low-beam, so I don't think its just a crossed wire.
View 2 RepliesI cant seem to diagnosis this and its driving me crazy. I've got a 05 GLI w standard 9007 headlights. All the lights work (fogs, drl, lows) except passenger high beam. The bulb is NOT burnt out either.....
View 6 RepliesMy car is fully stock, with all options available to me (cold weather package not available here). The low-beam triple-LED headlights are aimed way too low compared to all my previous cars, and where they should be. BUT high-beam is aimed properly. So if I adjust the low-beams up, my high-beams might end up lighting up the trees, not the road.
If adjust the headlights up on a fully stock car (not lowered at the front)? Are the high beams still lighting up the road fine? And if you can be specific as the number of turns on the screwdriver, it'd be good too to have an initial adjustment reference.
This morning a dash light informed me a headlight bulb was out. It was my DTR light on the passenger side.
I purchased Sylvania H7 high intensity, installed it and it failed to work properly. Daytime light on only drivers side works.
High Beam on , both lights works.
I checked my manual and it said to check fuse in the 5 slot on the driver side dash/door panel and there actually is no fuse in there. I checked the driver side and there was no fuse there either.
I replaced my driver side bulb last year and it took 5 mins....i am already 4 hours into this!
I have a 2012 Hyundai Accent GLS and recently noticed that my low beam only works in the high beam setting and the high beam doesn't work.
View 10 RepliesI have 2007 sante fe. I just replaced the low beam, now the low beam doesn't work at all. I checked the fuse .. Just fine checked the wiring harness and plug no broken wire, no corrosion....
View 2 RepliesI had the heater core flushed, inspection done, a tie rod end replaced, and both low beams replaced to pass inspection in January. The driver's side low beam stopped working after a week.
When I would hit a bump in the road, it would start working for a while till I hit another bump and then it would go off. Now the driver's side low beam never works.
I could have gone back to the mechanic, but it's an 80 mile round trip(they used to be a lot cheaper than the dealership). Now that the weather is starting to get better, do you think it's a simple problem that I can fix myself? I don't want to waste 80 miles worth of gas just to have them charge me for something that they already charged me to fix. The next time I'm due an oil change I may go there and demand that they fix the light too, but I'm not going to waste 80 miles of gas just for the light.
I have a 2000 legacy wagon (245k miles) that has a light issue. The running lights and low beam lights do not work and the dash parking break light will not go out. Earlier I had just the low beams not working. They were both blown and I replaced them about two weeks ago. Now they are out again and the dash parking break light stays on. I checked the fuzes and they look good.
View 8 RepliesSo i just purchased a 2008 R32 "united grey" US modelit has a clean 65,000 miles.... upon driving it home i flicked on the brights after about 10 seconds they automatically dimmed and the bulb indicator light popped on i researched and was confused about so many combated responses, and gathered that the brights operated off the same bulb as the low beams which both work "HID'S OEM" and that the two inside useless lights are flash to pass and can be enabled using VAG COM.....
But back to the task at hand i lined up to a wall and put my brights on and the passenger doesn't change in intensity or even do anything but stay on low beam my drivers side works fine! i checked fuses and saw none that looked blown but also didn't know if the brights were even on a separate fuse nor what " numeric position" it would be in?
Do I just need a new OEM bulb? new fuse? I haven't tried swapping the bulbs yet from drivers to passenger vise veresa... nor do i even know for sure if high beams work off of the same light, or if there is a mysterious spot for the highbeam bulb i not see
Why I have one headlight gone dim, high beam will not work. This just happened about a week ago and I changed the bulb and it's still the same.
View 9 RepliesI have a strange problem. My driver side low beam dont work and my right side high beam dont work. Try different relay (switching), check fuse, bulb etc. Also in my dashboard the right green arrow for the flasher always still on(solid).
If I activate (with the control arm) the right turn flasher the flasher light blink in the dash board and my outside flasher bulb flash but my left high beam also blinking in the same time!
When I use the high beams on my GTI with LP, the pattern goes very high with an oval/round top. The road is lit up fine, but I've never seen a pattern go up so high. Is this normal or a problem.
View 15 RepliesChanged Alternator on my 07 Camry SE V6. Now both low beam headlights dont work. I changed bulbs, and fuses. Still nothing what could the problem be??
View 1 RepliesMy left Low-Beam headlamp stopped working. I replaced bulb and still no low beam on that side. Checked new bulb in opposite side and it works fine.
View 3 RepliesI have a 98 Cavalier and my problems is that both of my low beams stopped working at the same time. My high beam and day light still work...
View 14 RepliesSo I got this car for 750 and I did choose to take on the problems of the car for the miles on it and how much life I've seen these jettas go for I thought it was a pretty good deal runs and drive great except front left wheel bearing. Onto the lighting so found that the low beams only work when the car is in the on position and when the car is started and running the low beams do not work the bulbs are good because I replaced them and they work when the ignition is in the on position and I have check the fuses all seemed to be fine I also noticed that the only lighting I get on my cluster is the two display screens down on the bottom not even rpm/mph cluster? Could any of this be symptoms of faulty headlight switch? Or too much resistance somewhere?? I also notice my high beam switch also doesn't stay on I would have to hold the switch if I wanted to keep it on....
View 2 RepliesI have a 2006 Toyota Camry SE 4 cylinder. When I turn on the headlight sometimes the light from the shifter doesn't light up. I have to tap it a few times for the light to come on. This happens to the passenger side low beam as well. When I turn on the light sometimes the passenger side low beam doesn't light up I have to go out and tap the headlight a few times for it to work. What can be the cause?
View 2 RepliesSearched the forums and found a similar problem for a Solara but not carolla. Have a 2009 Carolla s and the low beam headlights don't work. The high beams work, but when i dim them only the fog lights come on (if i have them enabled, which is how its set for my wife now). If i go to the parking lights mode the low beams will come on. Changed the bulbs and fuses are intact. I am wondering if it's a relay or the column switch. I have access to a multimeter, techstream, and have basic auto skills.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2012 gti with oem bi-xenon head lights. What code or setting do you use on vagcom to bring on the fog lights when I turn on highbeam?
View 3 RepliesI have an MY10 R36 wagon, and just looking to upgrade the High Beam only for night time driving.
