View 30 RepliesI got a morning or first drive of day noise that is loud enough to startle my wife. Sounds like a rock flying up into the wheel well. It happens when reversing down a drive way and I hit the dip or end of drive way. It has also happens when leaving work after 8 hours and I make 90 degree turn or more. When it happens on a turn it only pops on one side.
It can pop on either side or both at same time depending on a bump or turn. I also don't use a parking brake.
Here are some things I copied from other posts:
- rear spring
- sway bar
- rear differential
- cv joint
- strut mount
- sub frame mounts
2015 SFS 2.0T was oil sprayed at Krown 3 weeks ago, since then have developed a clunk in the rear end when reversing out of our driveway or at city speeds going over bumps. Google search came back with possibly oil spray on leaf springs as culprit? I have removed everything from the rear cargo area, also looked high and low, driven with hatch open and closed and also sat back there and had wife drive around....can't figure it out....

I have intermittent misfiring (a few seconds every couple minutes) and get the codes 301 and sometimes 304/300. I cant drive out of my driveway without a sputter and when I turn into a parking spot or make a quick stop the problem is magnified. I initially suspected a wiring / coil issue but here are my results:
Shuffled coil packs. (1/2 & 3/4)
Shuffled fuel injectors.
Good compression.
Swapped ECM.
Inspected wiring harness.
Goof EFI / cutoff relays.
None of these led to any change in the codes (300, 301, 304)
Yesterday I swapped the fuel pump and it worked flawlessly for an hour of city driving (first time in two months) ... then the issue returned as before.
I had been hearing bang noise from my front suspension at certain times like when reversing car and applying brakes. It was happening since I bought my car and every time I have complained about it to local VW service guys, I was told by them that they cannot replicate the noise so there is nothing wrong. I even told them to have a look at front suspension bushings but again they said everything is fine.
Last week I went for 45.000KM Service and I complained about the same issue again and luckily this time service advisor heard the noise himself. Next day, they called me to inform that my front lower arm bushings needs to be replaced, front brake pads and discs, and front wheel bearings as well. In my response I told them that bushings were bad for long time and no one figured it out earlier and due to this my front brake discs had abnormal wear along with the wheel bearings.
I am still trying to relate that it is technically possible for brake discs at least to wear off earlier if the suspension bushings are bad as when you apply brakes, the brake discs are stressed heavily as the bushing are not absorbing any stress.
I would like to have thoughts on this matter. Just let me know if my understanding is correct or it does not makes any sense and technically would not be proved.
Just to let you know that it is 3.2 4motion model. My driving is average within 120 KM speed and never hit any potholes etc. Plus my brake pads indicator never went on.
The brakes on my 2007 LaCrosse do not feel like they are engaging when I am reversing and the car is cold (first thing in the morning or first thing after work). The pedal feels very stiff/hard and the car doesn't feel like the brakes are stopping it. Every time I apply the brakes after that first time, they behave fine. I had the front brakes repaired/replaced but the problem persists.
View 2 RepliesMy car squeaks when I pull the shifter down from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th. What is causing that?
View 1 RepliesI had my 350 for about 5-6 months? Started two months ago when the brakes started to squeal coming down from my driveway and sometimes when I release the brake at a light. First I thought it was because of the cold but it started to get warmer and the problem is still here.
View 5 RepliesAlright so my brakes squeak a lotttt and its really annoying and embarrassing. They feel fine stopping power wise, i dont get vibrations and the car doesnt pull to either side, I looked at my pads and it looks like i have a 1/4in left on them which im pretty sure is good. I really want this to go away... do we have electronic sensors telling us we need new pads? Untill then ill be partially using my hand brake to reduce the embarrassment.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2013 2.5L Golf (Highline from Canada) that every morning when I go to work and every afternoon when I leave work, the brakes squeak for the first 2 to 3 stops.
It doesn't seem weather dependent, just cold dependent (now that it is cold in Canada).
Is this normal for a set of stock Golf pads? I am pretty sure its coming from the rears.
Out of all the cars I have owned (1973 BMW E3 Bavaria, 88 E28 535is, 01 E39 540i), none have ever made this much noise in the morning, no matter what the conditions were like.
If this is normal for stock pads, I will probably put a set of aftermarket ones.
I bought new brakes for the R, Hawks HPS pads with ECS tuning 2 peice rotors.
Me and a friend installed them in June. I went threw the break in procedure written on the box that came with the pads. The brakes work fantastic, they stop the car so much better than stock but the problem I have now is that loud squeak when braking normally. If I do a hard braking no squeak but I can't do that all the time, my passengers are going to hate me hehe. The squeak sounds almost like metal on metal grinding. When I inspect the rotors everything looks fine.
When installing them I used the paste that came with the pads and installed the metal backing that came with them too. I can't seem to figure out what I did wrong. Haven't really had time to take everything apart again either but I think I might do that this weekend but before I do that is there anything I should have on hand?
I have about 1300 mi on my V6. And for the last 600 or so miles the brakes squeak loudly when stopping at a red light.
View 4 RepliesMy brakes (still OE) have been loud as crap lately. Car (and thus the brakes) has 41,000 miles on it.
I don't believe they are done, because i see plenty of pad, and the wear sensor hasn't come on, plus the squeak isn't constant (pads that have the metal squeal bar make noise consistently when they get to it, IME). If I brake hard they are usually quiet, it's only light pressure that is doing it now. I know about the common "noisy when cold" that our brakes do, but mine have been doing it in warmer weather as well, and it's getting really annoying now.
I'm guessing that if I just take it all apart and put brake grease behind the pads and on the slides, this should quiet things down?
Yesterday I had my snow tires installed at Costco. Immediately afterward I noticed that the rear brakes squeak when I apply the brakes. I took the car back to Costco and asked them if they applied the proper torque or if anything unusual appeared during the change-over. They said no.... I loosened and retorqued the wheels and no change......they still squeak when I apply the brakes.
Questions: I assume there are wear indicators on the rear pads, could this be causing the squeeling? If so, aren't they supposed to squeel all the time when they reach their limit? I haven't inspected the wear yet...... What the tolerance is for the amount of lining on the pad. Could this be a rotor problem? I"m not feeling any pedal vibration.
Is there anything out there? My brakes are starting to squeak and squeal a little bit. I am guessing its coming from the rear as reading the forums the rears are biased and wear out first....
I would like to possibly do them all at once or at least make a purchase for everything at once....but looking for an upgrade.
My brakes squeak while I'm driving, but go away when I apply pressure to the brakes. Why?
View 6 RepliesIndependent mechanic replaced brakes and rotors on my 2006 Camry LE with NAPA parts. All was fine for a week or two but now I'm getting a squeak when I apply the brakes. Mostly this is at low speed. the squeak varies in loudness and length and does not happen all the time. Also after repeated stops, the brakes will grind at the tail end of braking (right before the car comes to a complete stop).
Stopping distance is not affected nor is there any vibration. I plan to take it back to the mechanic later this week but what the issue could be?
I have a 2002 passat and i have a squeak coming the front end of my car when i decelerate (let off the gas and coast, at low speeds). The car is a 5 speed. From other cars I have had, it sounds like it is the ebrake, like it kind of sticks on a little bit. When I coast while in neutral it does not do it. It also does it when I am in reverse, like leaving a parking spot.
View 6 RepliesWhen I 1st brought the car the original brakes and rotors squeak, I really didn't mind bcuz I had plans on changing them, now I installed the aftermarket slot/drilled rotors with new ceramic brake pads, and I still get squeaking from the front brakes, weather it's wet or dry, cold or warm they squeak, what I can do to stop this?
View 5 RepliesI don't know if it could be pads, rotors, calipers or something else. Just noticed it today. It squeaks while driving and then when I hit the brakes it lets out an even louder annoying squeak. Obviously I was thinking its something involving my brakes but why would it squeak while I'm just driving? What could it be?
View 11 RepliesAbout a week after I picked up my "vee" one of the passenger side brakes started to squeak when I would leave the house only after sitting for a while. Is this normal it only seems to be happening on the passenger side. I am thinking it might just be some condensation on the rotor or something but its definitely only coming from one wheel and goes away after driving about a block.
I am planning on having the dealer look at it as there is already a seat squeak / groan. I know where its coming from but I will leave the dealer to fix it.
