My daughter's 2002 Saturn L-200 emits a puff of smoke from the steering wheel area near the wiper switch only when she starts the car, which only lasts a few seconds then is gone. No one has ever heard of this happening, but a mechanic replaced the wiper switch. The problem was gone for about 3 weeks, and now is happening again intermittently. What is causing this?
View 4 RepliesI had my power steering motor and ignition replaced according to the Saturn recall 2 months ago. Went out yesterday and the PWR STR warning light was on, unable to move steering wheel. Turned the car off and waited a few minutes and turned the car back on and the power steering was fine. Since I just had the motor replaced do you think it is just a fuse? Or should I call the dealer?

View 4 RepliesI have a 07 camry 4 cylinder with about 80k miles on it. Now on cold starts i started to notice that it will have a puff of blue smoke out the exhaust then it will go away right away and when i drive it there is no smoke and the car drives fine.
I did some research and Im thinking that it is the valve seals. Now my question has tried to sea foam it and then run thicker oil to see it it will stop the smoking? or will i just have to replace the valve seals?
I was driving 65 mph along the freeway when all of a sudden I felt a huge knock under my car, and I saw a puff of smoke out of the back window. I pulled the car over and I am leaking oil somewhere along the passenger side of the car. There wasn't anything in the road in front of me so the only thing i can think of is something came from the lane beside me and shot over.

This is a 2000 V6 passat. The car has a valve clatter when you first put a load on the engine that goes away quickly. I've read that this is likely the cam tensioners leaking down - is that right.
So the wife was following me home yesterday and I got on it at a stop light. She said that I had a puff of black smoke come out when I shifted gears. The car is a 2006 2.0 m/t w/ about 60,000 miles. Never had the oil light comes on but dipstick is always dryer than it should be although dealer always says I'm fine. Today my brother-in-law was following me and I told him to watch. He said he never saw a puff when I was shifting but that once at idle he saw a slight black smoke. Car is cpo for another year or about 13,000 miles so it's not an immediate issue but if it's a problem I want it fixed before warranty expires. Is this just normal?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2003 Saturn Vue, been a pretty car, bought used. It has been making this obnoxious moaning sound when I turn the steering wheel. Had one mechanic say he thought it was some bearings? But I would have to bring back (was having something else fixed at the time). I am financially challenged at the moment, and I am concerned this is going to be costly. The sound doesn't seem to be affecting the mechanics of the car, it is just annoying.
View 5 RepliesWell its a 1.8t pretty much stock except the previous owner added a turbo-back exhaust and has an apr tune running the 91/93 octane tune and they also deleted the stock airbox.
After the car warms up sometimes I'll get a pretty big puff of smoke on acceleration from a stop. sort of bluish in color and it happens randomly, not every time. I usually have to add oil about every week. I have taken it to a mechanic but told me it wasnt the turbo ( cause thats what i thought at first) and that it might be valve seals instead. I scanned for codes since CEL went on and i got a p0136 o2 sensor code and p0411.
My son has a Saab 9-3 that we have spent several thousand dollars on repairing since we bought it for $3200 less than a year ago.The car has a little less than 100,000 miles on it. Now have about $7300 in it. Had motor rebuilt, water pump replaced and several other more minor repairs. Was driving it this weekend when he heard a loud whining sound then a puff of black smoke boiled out of the exhaust. It still turns over and runs but we had it towed to a shop. My husband things the turbo is shot. Could it be something other than the whole turbo having to be replaced? If it does, is this going to cost a fortune? Should we even put any more into this car? We have so much in it now that we hate to throw it away, but afraid of other major repairs adding to what we have already put in it.
View 1 RepliesI have a 4 cylinder 2000 Camry that I recently took to the shop because my check engine light was on and it was blowing out a puff of white smoke when the car first starts. I was told it was an EGR problem and this is what I had fixed:
"Upon client approval, remove and replace defective EGR Bypass Vacuum Valve with new (OE) EGR Bypass Vacuum Valve. Test drive vehicle following service to confirm proper operation. Warranty on parts and labor is 2 years or 20,000 miles (whichever comes first). Warranty valid at FIXCARNOW locations only. "
The problem is my car is still blowing out smoke, the check engine light is off, but it is having the same problems it did before. My concern is that either they didn't properly diagnose the problem,even though they ran a full diagnostic on the car, or just didn't fix it.
I have a 2010 Ram 1500 4x4 quad cab, 4.7L, 25,000 miles. When it sits for a few days, it will emit a puff of grey smoke on starting. It won't do it the rest of the day, and even the next day, but after about 3 days, it will do it. The truck sits nose up on a sloping driveway with a slope of about 1'/20' when parked. Truck runs great otherwise. Dealer says that this is normal for that engine, but I doubt it, as I don't see it discussed anywhere. Is the dealer right or just trying to get me past the new car warranty?

Car has 2,500 miles, and I can't see any smoke while driving. Only someone following me sees it. It's only a small white puff of smoke when I'm accelerating from a stop. I'm told it doesn't last long, and is just a small puff, not a cloud.
150,000 No loss of power. Only very small loss of oil in 3000 miles. Could it be valve seals. At what point is this a fix it problem. Would like to run car as long as possible. Great car. I had valve seals replaced years ago in a Chevy 305. That was so bad that I needed a stand off plug to prevent fouling and skipping. Should I look to trade or will the fix not be too bad.
View 10 RepliesI have a 00 dodge caravan. Has always been a good van. Recently when I start it up first thing in the morning there is a puff of blue smoke come out of the exhaust. This will not show up again if you start the van up wth in an hour or so. If you leave it for 3 or more hours you will get a puff of blue smoke but not as much as the one after it has sat all night. What this might be????

View 4 RepliesI have a 2005 Camry that is not leaking coolant (checking water level every morning) it has a puff of white smoke the first start of the day. I initially suspected condensation, as it only produces white smoke when temperature goes down to 65 degrees or cooler during the night.
However the longer it sits without starting, greater the amount of smoke. If I do not start the car at all on Saturday and on Sunday afternoon I start it, there is a lot more white smoke than I get every morning during weekdays. If it was condensation, by Sunday afternoon when temp isn't as cool, shouldn't all the water collecting evaporated?
Assuming it is condensation, what part failing would cause this? This car did not have this white smoke issue when it was new.
Not sure if it is related but the engine stutters on the first start of the day. Stutter also gets worse the colder the temp and the longer it's been sitting without starting. During summer when it's 85+, it does not stutter in the morning.
I have a 91 camry that failed the CA smog test because it lets out a puff of smoke when you floor and release the throttle. Could it be anything other than the rings?
