I have a 2002 Saab 9-5 with a 3.0L turbo with 125k miles. The cruise control works fantastic UNLESS the headlights are on... huh??
I can replicate 100% of the time. It is getting dark earlier now - and my wife will not drive it anymore to work (35 miles) without the cruise control working.
Sitting in my living room I noticed that suddenly my headlights on my 97 Subaru ob turned on. First thought was someone was stealing my pos. Knife in hand I went to investigate. No one there. The keys were in the car, in the off position. The headlights all of a sudden turned off. I noticed that the dash lights were flickering on and off. I removed the keys yet the dash lights remained on. Not wanting my battery drained I disconnected the positive cable, which obviously corrected the issue for the time being. When I was disconnecting the battery I heard a mechanical whirring noise coming from the passenger side of the car just behind the headlight. Have never heard this noise before. NOT the intake fan or the AC. Did not investigate extensively due to darkness, wind and rain.
View 11 RepliesI just got into my car with 49k miles and after I left the driveway the check engine light flashed, then went on solid as did the cruise control light. Meanwhile the car was shaking slightly. Its now parked in front of a neighbor's house. I re-tightened the gas cap and turned the car back on after I let it "rest". No improvement. Its shaking even in idle. I'm tempted to take to Autozone to have them read the check engine light code. But I'm afraid of making the problem worse by driving it. I recently got laid off and really didn't expect a car with so few miles to have any issues. Its a 2005 and I barely put 10k miles on it a year. (I'm the second owner and the car is out of warranty).
View 2 RepliesI have a problem with my 1994 Volvo 940 GL. When I turn on the headlights (light knob pointing to the right) the headlights do not come on, the rear lights aren't on, the dashboard lighting turns off, etc... I don't know about the brake lights, i bet they work fine...
What's odd is that if i set the knob to the middle (pointing up), the rear lights come on, dashboard lighting works, and front-side lights come on as usual. In order to drive at night, I have to set the knob to the middle, and hold down the brights (which work fine).
My 2004 Santa Fe has something failing, but I need to know which direction to go. When the defroster or air conditioner is turned on the idol fades momentarily and my headlights dim. This does not happen when the heater, alone, is on.
This is my 2nd Santa Fe; I have my 2003 in my barn. The transmission gave out at 204K miles and this one was in my neighborhood so I just swapped. So, I have lots of parts.
I have a 2005 Prius with 185,000 miles on it. When i left for work this morning, the headlights would not come on. The fog lamps work, and they go off when the turn signal lever is pushed forward to high beam, and the high beam indicator comes on when the lever is pushed forward, the dash indicator comes on when the headlights are turned on, The parking lamps and tail lamps are working but neither headlight on high or low beam (they are halogens). Both were working yesterday.
I drove to work using the fog lamps, and when I go on the freeway I turned the cruise control on, the dash light indicated the cruise was on, but it will not set.
My cruise control works just fine when my headlights are off as do my brake lights, but when i turn the lights on the cruise won't engage and the brake lights don't work. I've got 150K on the car so no longer under warranty...

I have had a few oddball issues with my car (the engine rattle at start up....the water backing up in the floor behind the passenger seat etc.... ) but this one has me baffled. I turn on the headlights and one or both will randomly go out. Sometimes its the left and sometimes its the right. When this problem started, I thought it was the bulbs so I tried changing the bulbs but that didn't work.
When I turn them on, they both come on and then I leave the house and drive for a few miles, then I will notice that one of them goes out, so I turn the lights completely off and then right back on and they both come back on. Then a few minutes later one or the other will go out again. Sometimes they both go out while I am driving, so I need to flick them off and back on. I have no problem with the high beams or the running lights. I don't drive too much at night so it hasn't been a huge hassle, but it is definitely a problem.
For some reason my front fog lights in the headlights are stuck on when I turn my headlights on. Even the green light on the euro switch indicating the fog lights are on is lit up. But the euro switch is not pulled out to that position. This just happened a few days ago. I was not messing with or touching any of the wiring. Just happened out of no where.
View 8 RepliesI woke up this morning to rain and a very sick Phaeton. The car is locked, however the headlights turned on automatically. The car has a smell of burning electrical components. The wireless unlock doesn't work, so I had to open the door with the key. This set off the alarm. I was unable to shut it off by putting the car key into the ignition. Now the key is stuck in the ignition. Various lights are flashing, but I cannot start the car. The batteries are less than 2 years old.
View 23 RepliesThe headlights have been giving us fits because we can't shut them off when we turn off the car. We have to start the car, sometimes drive it around and shut off lights before shutting off the car. And this process has to often be repeated several times before it works. Yesterday the lights came on by themselves when my husband turned off the car in the garage and he couldn't get them off so he disconnected the battery.
View 3 RepliesI just got a 2003 1.8T Passat about a week ago. I have already installed a new HU and put some subs in it. I haven't really had the chance to test the headlights while driving because I haven't driven after dark since I got the car. When I used the headlights today some strange things were happening.
When the headlights are turned on the right signal comes on and stays on until the headlights are turned off and doesn't pulse. If I try to use the right signal while it is stuck on it makes the indicator clicking noise once then the noise stops but the light stays solid the whole time.
If the headlights are off and I try use the right signal the signal works fine but the instrument lighting pulses with the signal and I assume I haven't noticed this because driven only in the light I probably just never noticed.
The left signal behaves completely as it should as far as I know in all conditions. The hazard lights are also behaving oddly but I'm thinking it's because of the problem with the right signal.
Anytime I turn the headlights on, the high beams go on too; I cannot switch off the high beams unless I turn off the headlights entirely (I have been driving with the low beams on during the day for the 5 years I have had the car)
I can find no reason for this; I'm inspecting the fuses (with little expectation). The only thing I can think of is the control switch or wiring. I have standard headlamps, not hid.
Until about a week ago, when I turned my headlights on, the icon (light bulb) appeared on the dash. Out of the blue, it doesn't. Any clue why? (High beam icon still appears).
View 4 RepliesMy wife's 2009 Toyota Corolla is possessed and it's gotten her so frustrated she brought home a new puppy two days ago.
Over the last two weeks we've noticed a handful of times, after we've turned off the car and left it (with the interior headlight control in the off position) that we'd go out to the garage only to find the car's headlights on. (Keep in mind, it has a sensor that will automatically activate the headlights in dim light but this only is supposed to happen when the car is on.) It began having issues starting and yesterday it wouldn't turn over. Yet, when turning the ignition, it made a sound different than I've heard on the car when it has a dying/dead battery. Before calling the tow truck, I tried jumping it. The car did turn over -- and the headlights immediately came on (might have been the sensor in the dark garage, but they come on almost immediately rather than after a brief delay). Yet it died quickly after and wouldn't start again. My neighbor, however, smelled gas and suggested the engine might be flooded.
The car was towed to my mechanic -- who's a good guy. He just called and said the car turned on for him without a problem and he can't find anything despite running a battery of tests. He said he just doesn't want to swap stuff out without knowing there's an issue.
So, what could possibly be causing the car's headlights to go on when the car is completely turned off and the internal knob for the headlights is also in the off position? And could it be related to the car not turning over -- or did my wife flood the car when she tried to turn it over yesterday morning, creating a wholly separate issue?
I have an '07 ES 350 and recently I ran into this problem where my emergency blinkers would turn on and remain on when I turn on my headlights. This occurs as soon as I turn my headlights from off to any other position(auto, fogs, on) and this happens every time. I tried pressing the actual emergency light button to try and turn it off, but that didn't work. I also tried disconnecting and reconnecting the headlight from the electrical system, but that didn't solve it either.
The only way that I got the headlights to work without the emergency blinkers is by turning the brightness of the dash all the way down, so that the odometer light and all of that is completely dark. It's been fine since I bought the car 2nd hand in mid 2013 so I don't know why this is acting up all of a sudden. What's going on?
I own a 2010 Camry SE which I bought about 2 months ago with around 58k miles on it.
A few days ago, I noticed when I switched my headlights on auto, the car radio turned off. When I turned the knob from the auto light position to the to headlights, the radio comes on again and and goes off if I keep switching back and forth until it eventually stays on regardless of what position the knob is at.
What is even a stranger, yesterday, I started my car and turned the auto lights on, switched it to the headlights, and the radio turned off, but I also noticed that engine lost power (?). It didn't completely shut off, but it was noticeable when I was going back and forth between the light switches.
I have a 2006 Dodge Caravan, on two separate occasions the headlights turned off and we could not get them on for several minutes. And on one occasion we couldn't turn them on. Now they seem to be working fine right now. The bulbs seem to be okay, I was thinking maybe a relay but I can't find a relay for the headlights. What it could be?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2013 elantra limited with the tech package. Today I discovered that my parking lights or headlamps stay on after the car is turned off and the vehicle is armed. The interior blue lighting ( gear selection, push start ignition button, a/c selections, Eco button etc. ) stays on as well. I checked the fuses, but couldn't find anything that pertains to the parking lamps.
I usually run my lights in the drl or headlights position as I lost the auto feature when I installed my H.I.D's. And they usually shut off after a good 15 seconds.
I installed a powered compact subwoofer today and initially wired it to the same battery terminal as the H.I.D.'s but now have switched to another terminal.

Headlight on the drivers side goes on but then after approx. 30-45 seconds goes out. The passenger side and the brights are ok.
How do you replace the low beam bulb? which bulb do I purchase?
Is there a video showing the way to get at and remove/replace the bulb.
I have recently purchased this 2012 Gen 3 Prius JDM imported from Japan. It is with LED parking lights and HID low beam. At day there is no issue with lights Off, even no issue on parking lights On but as soon as the headlights are turned On i get the fault indicator and some warning in Japanese language on inner screen. Apparently, all lights, on the other hand, are working fine.
When i took the car to repair shop, they installed the diagnostic computer and it showed B2430 and B2431, LED headlight RH and LH, whereas my model is with HID headlights, not LED headlights. At day its ok, i get normal info on inner info screen but at night this error triangle and error message keeps showing instead of normal info and is a cause of fear for me as well because i dont know how serious it may become.
