My Porsche is backfiring & popping when it has heated up while driving. What could this be? I took it to a Porsche repair shop where the guy changed the Perma-Tune Box and replaced the coil and charge me over $1400.00 and the car is still doing the same thing. Could this be a tune up problem?
View 4 RepliesMy wife was driving the 1999 K3500 7.4 model ls crewcab truck home the other day and out of the blue it started running rough popping and back firing and lost power. It had a major tune up about 40,000 miles ago. It sometimes has a hard time cranking to start, but once it starts it idles really rough and pops and smells like it is running rich. I thought the distributor cap but it looks fine, could it be a sensor?
View 2 RepliesRecently bought a used '02 Porsche Boxster and find that there is vibration in the steering wheel when driving between 75 - 80 on the freeway. I see in 2008 the exact same problem was experienced by Goatster, a fellow owner of an '02 Boxster.
View 7 RepliesTo start I drive a mliv 1.8t jetta. The car has a stage II custom tune, a turbo back exhaust straight piped, and a splitter valve. The valve cover gasket, spark plugs and coil packs, rear o2 sensor (with a 42dd spacer as well) were all changed recently to try and stop my problems from reoccurring. Also the MAF sensor was cleaned too, but was not very dirty. The problem tends to cease when I delete the codes and it has to relearn the fuel mapping. When the check engine light comes back on, the problems re occur. The code thrown is catalytic converter below threshold, but i have no cats. What happens with my car is, when the car is fully warmed, the car has a rough idle, to where it sounds like a heavy duty diesel truck when idling, the car will shake from the vibrations, when i go to start moving, the car bogs down to where it feels like it will stall, but it will buck and shoot off. Also when driving the car randomly bogs down, but then will shoot off will power! Sometimes at idle when its bad, if i tap the gas, the car will back fire very loudly.
View 3 RepliesI've got a 2005 Jetta GLI (mk4) and i noticed that my car will try and boost at times when its not supposed to. i noticed it happens most when i initially start up my car and i start driving when its not fully heated up (i always warm it up for at least 5 mins no matter what the weather is like)
View 7 RepliesI've noticed several times, already my heated steering wheel will automatically turn off at random times.
During the winter months i keep it on almost all the time, but noticed occasionally it just shuts off, and even gives the message in the dash that the heated steering wheel is off.
Last time it happened, i was driving for about 25 minutes, at a stop light. Whats odd is its been on for 45-60 minute drives with no issues.
I don't even think it could be diagnosed by the dealer since I don't know what the trigger is.
I am working on an older couples two cars one is a 1984 Porsche that I replaced a fuel pump, fuel filter, cleaned all the fuel lines out, new spark plugs, new air filter, changed oil, changed coolant, cleaned injectors, and got the throttle cable unstuck. the other ,a 1990 Porsche, I haven't done anything too but I plan on doing everything I did to the other except the fuel pump, unless something else is messed up.

View 14 RepliesJust replaced the front struts last week and the upper control arms this morning. After putting everything back together I drove her around the block and noticed a horrible popping and squeaking like something was loose. I quickly limped her home and double checked that everything went back on properly and was tight. Car is the V6 with eibach's and about 103,000 miles I have drain and filled the tranny every 30-40k.
What this sound might be? It goes away once I am above about 10-15 mph and sounds like it is coming from the center underside of the car. I will also try to get a video of the sound while I am driving.

While driving at about 80mph today the rear of my R started popping. Felt like I had a flat tire. It stopped and started again. Once I got off the freeway it started to sound like I was dragging a muffler. I pulled over and everything looked fine. I drove home with a screeching/grinding type noise. You can also hear it when I put it in reverse. What is this? Is it ok to drive it to the dealership about 20 miles away?
View 18 RepliesWhile driving on the highway, I got a whole bunch of warning lights. Mechanic replaced alternator, but while returning from the shop, I again got flash of several warning lights, though they went out in a second (seemed to happen especially in a hard right turn). This continued intermittently for several months, though it hasn't happened recently. Now, however, each time I start the engine, the SRS warning light comes on and stays on for about 90 seconds. It then goes out and is fine until next start. Additionally, on two recent occasions, when I started, the gauges were all dead. They started to work after about 15 seconds, then the SRS light came on as before. Battery is about 3 years old. Checked voltage before start (11.8v) and after engine running (13.6v).
View 3 RepliesMy car sometimes runs like a dream and then abruptly will lose power, act like it's not getting fuel, not respond to the accelerator and sputter and buck. My mechanic has rebuilt the fuel pump, cleaned fuel filter, cleaned out tank, replaced hoses. He's familiar with Porsche engines and I know he's not blowing smoke up my nose, so to speak. He's tried everything he can think of. I never know when it's going to act up. It will run smoothly, I will drive it hard, drive it slow and easy, corner hard, not hard, and it sometimes stays happy, sometimes decides it doesn't want to run. It improves when clutch is pushed in, acts like it wants to respond, then after I let the clutch out and apply gas, it starts to buck and there's no power. Haven't been able to get it out of first when it does that.

View 1 RepliesWhile driving our car I heard a loud popping sound and had to call roadside assistance. I was informed that the frame had cracked which probably caused the axle to drop. The car is part of a class action suit for corrosion of the frame. Customer service says that they will cover any damages to the car as a result of problems with the frame. If the local Hyundai asks for payment, Should I have the car fixed and submit the bill to the main office for reimbursement?

It sounds as if the car is clicking, popping into gear, although it's in Park. The garage is level and the car is not being moved in any kind of way. I sometimes sit in the car to finish a song or a phone call and I noticed this yesterday.
View 46 RepliesWas driving when I heard a pop n my boost dropped. Normally run 17 psi but my boost gauge is now only reading it's pushing 4psi. There is no smoke coming out my exhaust or anything, when I had it scanned it read it was a bad pressure sensor in the inter cooler so I replaced the sensor cleared the code took it for a drive n the same thing happened...check engine light came back on n still running like crap.
View 5 RepliesI have a 1995 Porsche 993. The car sat outside in the heavy rain the other day for quite a while. The next day when I went to start the car it stuttered and barely turned over. I gently hit the gas and it took a few minutes to warm up - then it idled fine. I was pulling away and I noticed that it would idle fine but it only seemed to stutter when I hit the gas pedal. After about 20 minutes the effect disappeared and it ran fine. This is the second time this has happened and only after the car sat outside in heavy rain. I have read the other comments about stalling being due to water on spark plugs, wires or in the distributor cap, etc. (mine were replaced less than two years ago) so I wondered if my situation is different because it only seems to happen on acceleration.

View 2 RepliesI drive a 1997 dodge Dakota 5.2l 5 speed manual 4wd and recently it started making a really aggressive banging or popping noise while I was driving, it also made the truck bounce up and down a little bit and I could feel the shifter move up and down while this was happening. So I went underneath and discovered my transmission mount was out so I changed that and as well I changed a few u joints. One thing i noticed while I was replacing u joints was that when I had the front drive shaft off the whole problem was reduced to just a minor popping noise but once I slapped back on the front drive shaft it all came back. Another problem that is occurring because all of this is that when I tried to use the 4wd in 4 hi it just kicked it out of 4hi but in 4 lo it would stay in but all the problems were still there. The only time it doesn't do anything is when I am already rolling and I put the 4wd selector in neutral to disengage the drive shafts.
I have asked a few different people their opinions and I get different answers, someone thought it could be something to do with the steering shaft or intermediate steering shaft but I think that is not the correct diagnostic. Another one of my buddies suggested that it might be a stretched chain or gear in the transfer case that is causing it.
I'm going crazy here with this strange noise on my '01 Screw. EVERYTIME it starts to rain - and I mean immediately upon starting to rain - I get a strange clicking and popping sound that is unmistakably near the passenger rear door, up high, almost in the corner of the cab. Today my wife and I were driving and it starting to rain and I saw her start cocking her head and I said, "Do you hear it too?" She confirmed where it is coming from, but I just can't figure it out. My truck has a cap on it, but it doesn't seem like it is related to that. It is ANY kind of rain too. Precipitation=sound. Really odd.
