Pontiac - 6000 :: Non Starting Turning Over Even Replaced Battery?
Feb 20, 2013
So I got up this morning and my car wouldn't start. It was turning over, kinda. Figured it was a problem with the battery. So I pulled the battery out of my car, took it to the local O'Rileys, they confirmed the batter was dead and sold me a new one. Put the new battery in the car, and it still won't start. The car turns over just fine now, but it won't fire.

I tried to put in a new battery for my mom's 1988 Pontiac 6000, but could not get the battery out with having to disassemble other parts of the engine. What is the easiest way to do this?

2005 Bonneville SE. 3.8 liter V6 46,000 miles.
I just purchased the car in September of 2013 and it's in great shape. Over the past couple of months, I have noticed every once in a while, it won't fire right away after turning over. To get it to start, I have to press down on the accelerator once or twice while cranking. The problem seems to occur when the engine is relatively warm. It seems to have no issues after the car has been sitting over night.

I have a recently purchased 2005 Prius- Mileage-150.3k having several lights on the dash: ABS/VSC/Engine Check/ Brakes, etc. See attached screen shot. Initially, I got into the shop and had the codes read out several codes. In all, I was informed the root cause was a bad 12v and bad hybrid batteries. By this time , the car was still moving, though not very smoothly. however, less than a week thereafter, the car couldn't start again.
We decided to replace the 12v first, hoping to get it back to start but it wouldn't. I've checked the fuses in the engine compartment as well as on the steering column- all okay. I've checked battery voltage, it's now at 12.3v. When I try to start, the Ready light would simply flash for 2-3 seconds before going off. I've rechecked battery connections as well as the brake controls by the 12v battery- all well tightened.

I need to replace my girlfriend's starter on her 2006 Sonata 3.3 V6. Her car is having the intermittent starting thing that i noticed some others are. We've already replaced the battery and the starter relay. The relay worked for a while but the car is back to having issues intermittently again. I figured I'd replace the starter now(with a new starter solenoid on it). Also, while I'm doing this I'll check for any loose or rusty grounds.
So, I've peeked under the hood and tried to follow the battery cables to find the starter but I haven't been able to find it. Is it under something? Do I need to remove the battery?

A few weeks ago, my battery died, got a new one, ran fine for a week. Then wanted to go to work a a few days ago, turn the key and heard nothing, took the starter out, got a new one and put it in (used-but I took it apart and it looked fine) Once I put that in was excited to have my car back, but same thing, not even a sound coming from the starter, doesn't even try. Thought it might be a fuse problem, checked everyone that might have to do with the engine...and they all looked fine.
Something with the relays perhaps? I haven't checked those yet. A ground issue? I'm so lost right now.

Last week Wed my vehicle was not starting. Some lights would start to come on and then die out. I read the forums here and replaced the traditional battery. Perfect, started right up and no issues. Today, went to bring the kids to school and it did not start up. No messages, a few lights like before and it went dark. Is this an engine issue. I have not tried to jump the new battery yet as it is pulled forward in my garage. (Today being Tuesday and not even a week into my new battery). I looked around, nothing was left on so what is happening. It has just short of 80,000 miles on it.

My battery went dead so I replaced with new. This did not fix the problem so I replaced the alternator. It's working now but the battery light stays on. I think I still have a problem.

I had to replace the chain tensionor 3 times. I would like to know if that is a common problem with the 2.2L engines. How the chain is oiled while in operation.

I bought a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am a month ago, I have already replaced the power steering pump, the water pump, plugs and wires, new battery. It was running fine I drove it last night, but the radio has said loc since I bought it. Then today I got in it and tried to start it and it won't start. It turns over like it is going to start but doesn't. I tried the 10 minute reset thing. That didn't work.

I replaced the ignition key lock cylinder on my 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE. I performed the re-learn process by cranking the engine over, then releasing to the ON position for about 9 minutes. During the 9 minutes the SECURITY light blinked the whole time, then at the end it went solid for a few seconds, then off. On the next cranking cycle I was able to start the engine and thought all was good. But now when I open the door the car beeps as if the key is left in the ignition and the automatic locks are disabled with the door opened. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am se that was overheating and I found out that it had a blown headgasket and the fuel pump was going out. So I changed the head gasket and fuel pump. After all that I proceeded to start it but all it did was crank and not start. I did Research on the passlock and bypassed it and the security light stopped blinking and went away but all it did was crank and not start. Could the timing be off and cause it not to start? It gets correct ammout of fuel and correct compression? Also the timing chain is loose enough for me to jiggle it.

2001 Grand Am, 120,000 miles. Struggles to starts, when it does turn over it is only for 1-2 seconds and then cuts out. Even if I get it plenty of gas it still cuts out only it revs and then cuts out. It worked fine on Thursday and sat on the drive until this morning. If it makes a difference, we've had lots of rain recently and the remote keyless entry stopped working too.

1999 3.l L Pontiac Grand Prix. All was well until I had the Intake manifold seals replaced. They said the coils were rusty, so they were replaced along with spark plugs and wires. The car would then (at times) crank a little bit longer before starting. When I took it back, they said the fuel pump pressure was low, so it was replaced, but the problem persisted. This has been going on for about 3.5 years now, so not a fatal problem, but getting worse this fall.
I've had it in to 2 local garages that I trust and 2 local gm dealers, without any luck fixing it. Some say the fuel pump pressure is on the low end of normal, but I've been reluctant to have another put in. Lately, seems like when the car sits for several hours it either cranks longer to start or will almost start, but need to be cranked again. Seems like I'm either not getting enough fuel or perhaps too much?In the interim, I've had to replace a crank sensor and last week the transmission. Neither has had any impact on the starting issue, no surprise.

My 2008 Grand Prix has developed an intermittent starting issue. The car always starts in the morning. On some days after I have driven to work, grocery etc it refuses to start. Dead. No sound, no "click click". If the car sits for 15 minutes it will then start. The dealership has replaced the relay in the transmission that tells the car what gear it is in, replaced the battery and cables, suggested I try using my husband's key instead of mine. It still happens. It has done this about 7 times since October.

My 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 L V6 with120,000 miles shakes/vibrates when I accelerate while turning/veering right (as when coming out of an exit to merge into oncoming traffic). It does not vibrate when I turn left. I have new balanced tires, replaced both front tie-rod ends, and the rack and pinion by a certified GMC mechanic. What could be the problem?

My 2001 Pontiac Grand Am gt won't start. Turning the key gets no crank. Also there is no power that seems to be in the car at all. Nothing on instrument panel. Battery is good and all Ignition fusses are good.

I have a 01 GrandAM 3.4. I have a reoccurring problem with this car. The car will randomly not start, and die while driving. Some days I can drive the car with no problems, and some days it will only have starting problems. These problems are very random. When the car doesn't start it will crank and turn over however the fuel pump will not kick in. You can turn the key on and off several times, and it will fire up. This DOES NOT seem to be a problem with the passlock theft system. The security light has never came on, and you do not have to wait any amount of time for the car to start, you only have to flip the key back and forth several times. The car after running will occasionally die, after the car dies it will usually start back up on the first try. I am very puzzled by this problem not sure if it is the ignition switch, fuel pump, or something in between.

2001 Pontiac Bonneville. 135000 miles. Running well. Only in the morning for about 10 minutes after starting and riding there is a strong burning smell. Don't see any leaks.
