Quite a loud noise like whistling, as a rapidly rotating. Is this the original R32-sounding? I heard this noise because the sound generator is this true?
I have a 2004 Camry (2.4 Ltr engine) with 120k miles on it. 2 days ago a whistling/whining noise began after I had been running errands & restarted my car after being parked for about 20 minutes.
If my car has been sitting and the engine is cold (like when I get up in morning to go to work) the noise doesn't start until it gets to the 3rd line above the "C" on the temp gauge. It's a constant sound while idling or driving, except when I am accelerating. The noise seems to be originating from around the alternator, but hard to tell exactly. I have no Check Engine, battery or other indicator lights showing. Other than this mystery noise my car is running fine.
I seem to have this high pitched whistling noise as I am driving at normal speeds (starts at ~40-45 mph). It seems to coming from my rear drivers side, but I'm not entirely sure. My R has about 78,xxx miles and I haven't done this 80k....
View 5 RepliesI have a 2003 excursion... it is a v 10and just yesterday there was a whistling noise. I parked the vehicle and idle it slowly but no noise. I drove it again n the noise was there again. So the noise is there at 2000-2500 rpm. I'm wondering if its my exhaust manifold?? Also I'm starting to loose power. When running and in parked it shut off.

I Did not have any Warnings Just Whistling Noise which was coming from under the hood.That was weary Loud Noise. I took my car to the dealer and they told it look like a bad Engine belt. After few days they told me my transmission is bad and needs to be Completely Replaced. I Read so many different stories on this Forum about Transmission Problems and i never had any problem till now.

View 12 RepliesI haven't had my 06 Passat long, but I noticed today that, when the fan is on high, there is a loud air-rushing sound coming from the glove box. I know the glove box has a little port to let in cool air (I guess to keep your owners manual cool), and when I open the glovebox I can feel a square hole with air rushing out.
I am guessing there is probably some gasket that seals the glove box to this vent hold when its closed, and its most likely not sealing correctly.
I have a 2000 Passat V6 with about 75k miles. This week, my car has been making these piercing/whistling noises regardless of whether or not I'm pressing the gas. It usually occurs from 20-50 mph. Above 50 mph, there is no noise. The noise eminates from under the car, mostly on the right hand side. My brakes screech too, but they've been doing that for about 2 months now. And that screeching is a different noise.
View 1 RepliesI got my v-8 12-22-03, very pleased. however at exactly 53 miles per hour and higher a high pitched whistling comes from the right side of the sunroof, whether open or closed. The dealer is perplexed and stumped. Sticking my head out at 55 miles an hour is fun (very dog like and my son was driving) but no way you can hear anything and pinpoint the noise. It does not appear to be the roof rack which is properly installed and both in the rear. In the words of the teacher in ferris bueller..
View 8 RepliesI have noticed a whistling noise coming from under the hood. When I inspected it I notices suction coming form a small hole on the rear drivers side of the valve cover. From the little information I could find this is a PCV valve of sorts that is molded into the valve cover itself. The local dealership quoted nearly 850.00 for parts and labor. I spent a little time calling around. A VW dealer in a local city said that there was not a valve molded into the valve cover, and most likely this whistling was being caused by a hole in a vacuum line somewhere else between the engine and the firewall. This small hole is located above the where the crank case ventilation hose meets the valve cover. Is my local dealer correct in that it is the PCV valve that is part of the valve cover? Is this a fairly straight forward repair that can be done in the garage, and are there any other aftermarket fixes besides purchasing a whole valve cover?
View 6 RepliesFaint humming/whistling noise coming from the drivings side of the motor. I can hear it when I put my head next to the drivers wheel well, and most certainly from that side of the motor when the hood is popped. It's not super loud, but it is noticeable. I know we have Direct injection motors, so I know that ticking is completely normal. Am I overlooking this and being paranoid? Car has 2100 miles on it. I don't know if it was there when brand new.
View 1 RepliesFor several months, my 2004 VW Passat (1.8L Turbo FWD) has been making an intermittent squeal while driving. The noise is brief (lasting usually a fraction of a second), is loud, screechy and high-pitched (like a belt slipping), sounds as if it's originating from the rear passenger's-side area, and always occurs just after I begin to drive after being stopped at a light or stop sign. It occurs most frequently when I make a left turn (never a right turn) and sometimes when proceeding without a turn. When it's heard while driving straight, it's accompanied by a momentary hesitation in speed, but whether this is just engine hesitation or active deceleration I cannot tell. The problem began in the fall of 2011, stopped during the cooler months (I live in southwest Florida), and began again once ambient temperatures climbed again into the 80's. It usually occurs once or twice per day (but some days not at all) and typically in the afternoons when the air temperatures are warmer. I never hear it when the brakes are applied, and the brakes do not squeal. The noise is not accompanied by any dashboard warning lights.
My local VW dealership claimed that the cause was rusty rotors (as I had recently moved to FL from New England), and I spent several hundred dollars having the rotors replaced, only to have the problem reoccur as I was leaving the dealership's parking lot. I now have an independent mechanic who has been road-testing the car for several days and has heard the squeal once but is puzzled as to its cause. There is no uneven brake wear to suggest that the calipers are being applied unevenly. About 2 months ago, when the squealing noise was absent in the winter months, my mechanic removed a 6mm piece of aggregate which had become lodged beneath the vacuum plate of the rear driver's-side brake assembly. However, a month later, the squeal returned as before. My mechanic is truly puzzled and at this time can only suggest having the rear brakes and calipers replaced.
The engine of our VW Passat 2000 quit suddenly while driving home on freeway. Night. Rain. We put on the flasher lights as we were slowing while trying to move to the right lane. No shoulder as we we were on a bridge. Do not remember being rammed from behind. Had a new battery installed one month earlier after VW mechanics could find no reason for intermittent non-starting of car which we had been experiencing. They had run "fault codes".
View 14 RepliesGot the TPMS light after ~1,000 miles of driving. Checked the pressure on all four and all read around 32psi. Pumped all up a few pounds, held the reset TPMS button in the glove box for 2 seconds with the ignition off. Now about a week later, I have the light on again and all 4 tires appear to be fine visually. What gives?
View 6 RepliesI have a 2013 VW Sportwagen TDI. I have been driving with my windows down and recently started hearing a noise (don't hear it when windows are up). The sound only seems to appear when I first start driving the car (after a few miles it seems to stop or at least is much less frequent), as I slowly (normal) accelerate and especially as I turn into a corner... I hear a loud "ticking" sound. It "ticks" 6-12 times (over about 5 sec) and then stops altogether. The sound has a very metallic character.
I looked at a youtube video demonstrating diagnosing and repairing of the CV joint(s) and am not convinced this is my problem. The tone and frequency of the "tick" sound shown in the video is way different than what I am hearing with my car.
I have a 2003 Passat Wagon, V6, with a little over 80,000 miles that has developed a problem that I have not been able to get fixed: after the engine has warmed up, when driving at under 2000 rpm, the car jerks when light throttle is applied. I could also describe it as a thump or shudder. There is a small blip in the tachometer when it jerks. If I give it enough gas to cause the transmission to shift up, it does not jerk, nor does it do it over 2000 rpm. It recently had it's 80,000 mile service and runs very strong and smoothly when given enough gas.
My dealer couldn't figure what was wrong, and after they consulted with VW decided that I must have put in some bad gas. The problem was to have gone away after 5 or 6 tanks of good gas. After that didn't solve the problem, I went to an independent repair shop. They told me that it couldn't be misfire because there were no codes registered. Their theory is that it is problem with the transmission, whereby with light throttle the transmission is told to shift but then slips right back down, thus the jerkiness. They couldn't offer a solution, however. What to do about it?
My 2001 VW New Beetle has started making a loud, whining noise coming from outside the car along w/ some buzzing whenever I am driving. I find that I have to change gears about 10 miles sooner than I should in order to stop the noise. But now it's happening in 5th gear occasionally too, and of course I can't go to a higher gear to make it shut up. What could this mean?
View 3 RepliesThe front end on the ex started humming really bad today after driving 350 miles to Memphis Tennessee. When I noticed the humming I pulled over and unlocked the hubs thinking the front axle is low on gear oil. No change when back on the interstate. If I turn right at highway speeds the noise completely goes away. While driving straight its pretty loud. The more I turn left the louder it gets. Just had the front end apart to do all ball joints tie rod ends etc. the hubs looked great and didnt have any play at all. The noise happens between 40-65 mph. After 70 mph the noise goes away. Doesn't go away when I let of the pedal, hit the brakes, put in neutral while driving, or accelerate. Could it be the hubs?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2008 VW Jetta 2.5S with 50k miles. The user manual says to change spark plugs at 40k miles. Since the dealer quoted 350$, i haven't changed yet. The car is running fine. Should i be changing the spark plugs ? If not will it led to other problems?
