My car is making a popping sound during acceleration. I just recently found that the radiator fan is not coming on and I am about to replace the coolant tempo sensor. Could this unit effect engine performance.

View 1 RepliesI have a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser 3.1 with an intermittent engine power loss during acceleration. Usually it occurs just after leaving a stop sign or light once or sometimes twice in a row. It is not a hesitation - it is a very abrupt loss of power. I've kept up on the standard maintenance very well and the car has 80,000 miles, so I would not suspect spark plugs, wires, or fuel filter. It does not have a tachometer, but I am 99% sure the transmission is not slipping or jumping out of gear, but that the engine is actually loosing spark or fuel. This problem is very intermittent, but it has triggered the check engine light a couple of times. The check engine light does not stay on, and when I took it to my mechanic he said to keep driving it until the light stayed on or the problem was more easy to replicate. Right now, if a mechanic went for a test drive, there is a good chance it would not show any symptoms. My mechanic did mention that it may turn out to be an ignition module.
View 3 RepliesMy wife's car is making a odd sound. I think it may be the timing belt. Her car is a 1999 Olds Cutlass v6 and I don't know if it has ever had its timing belt replaced. I can't tell from her records. So what kind of a timing belt does this vehicle have? How many miles before it should be replaced? The last question is, if she keeps on driving it, what it the worst thing that can happen?
View 8 RepliesI got a 1986 chevy g20 conversion van and I am having a problem with it once in a while it will stall out after putting it into gear it does not do this a lot but it does happen also smells like its running rich and until it warms up while the van is in park you can hear a intermittent click sound goes click click............................click...click no real rhythm just kinda does it then stops when in any gear besides park friend said it could be a small backfire. The engine is a 350 V8 4 barrel carbed.
View 1 RepliesI got this car (03 gti 20th a/e) a few months back, and days after taking ownership it started having issues. the one that's still present is related to the boost. Every time I go to accelerate and hit 15-17psi the car sputters, and sounds like a popping noise under the hood..followed by the car going to 5psi for a few seconds, and the engine light flashing (then goes to solid cel).
The car has been scanned for the cel and it had thrown a number of codes-all have been addressed..but still have the same issue!--misfire in #3. I have had a local shop that only works with vw's & audis do all the repairs. we have replaced the coil pack, the spark plugs, and the N249 boost valve. The car is still showing a misfire in #3. What could be the issue? Maybe its the tune?
1999 Olds Cutlass, 140k miles. When going over uneven pavement, up inclines or over bumps, the car makes a creaking sound, like a cross between stepping on an old floorboard and basketball sneakers scuffing the court. It sounds and (feels?) like its coming from the back end, but I do know the front left wheel bearing needs replacement. I recently had a right front caliper replaced after a friend blew out the tire and crunched the rim on a bad pothole. It went a good 20 miles, give or take, on a donut in between repairs.
I know this is not good for the alignment of the car. Trust me, I did not approve this usage. Along with the creaking is a sound similar to bottoming out, although it happens when going over bumps, and I know for a fact nothing is truly bottoming out. It's going into the mechanics as soon as I get to a vacation day from work, in the meantime, is it an issue that needs to be fixed before a drive another mile, or can it wait a few days? My average usage of the car is about 20 miles/day. What it might be? I have a hard time changing my own oil, but my research suggests maybe tire rods, ball joints, arm bushings? Or even worse, gulp struts?
My daughter has a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero with 120,000 miles on it. She tells me it is making a squealing sound which I suspect is a loose serpentine belt. But I'm 18 hours away and can't diagnose it for her.

When i drive straight and i let go of the gas the car kinda jerks always then the pop sound comes from passenger side.. or when i turn, then drive straight i pops. I'm thinking it might be a bad cv joint or bearings..? or i heard that the FK coils it self-make weird noises.
It seems that many 2012/2013 Camry owner with sunroof has popping sound issue. Based on reading threads that are already out there it either happens right away or after 10,000+ miles of ownership when outdoor temp gets cold or driving over a bump. What is not clear is, too me, if this issue happens to majority of Camry owner with sunroof or minority. I for one own a 2013 Camry with sunroof with almost 3000 miles on it but I do not have this issue. Was wondering if Camry owner with sunroof can chime here whether or you have this issue and how many miles you have on the vehicle. What percentage of Camry with sunroof are having this issue.
View 14 RepliesAt 50 MPH and above, a popcorn popping sound occurs - varying fast and slow - only began after car was serviced. Can't find the source. Checked since it started and still nothing found - but new thermostat was installed, new gauge panel (due to car appearing to overheat but it was a faulty gauge), new wiper arms installed (thought they were the cause), running board rubber re-attached (thought it was flapping) - none of these were the cause because it is still occurring.
View 10 RepliesAfter 1-2 mins I turn off my car I hear a popping sound from under the car. Usually it goes after some sounds of cooling down the metal and ticking, and then a pop sound. Nothing during the driving. I did some research and found that it may be Catalytic Converter cooling down or the heat shield.
View 9 Replies2001 Chevy impala with 2 problems. First, I get a whining sound that lasts about 1 min after the car has run for about 5 min, and as soon as the noise starts the engine temp goes up (high, but not in the red). It's not the accessory belt, revving the engine doesn't do anything and either does putting the car in neutral. I can get the tone to slightly change by turning the a/c on and off, but it doesn't stop the whining. It sounds like it is coming from the radiator fan and when I tapped the one fan the other day, the noise stopped, not sure if it was just a coincidence. Second, I get a popping noise coming from the front of the car when accelerating. I don't think it's the shocks because I compressed the shocks by bouncing on the hood and got no noise.
View 3 RepliesMy wife calls me tonight freaking out about a sound our 2012 Camry LE is making. When she pulls out or into the driveway (going over the curb and turning), she gets a popping-like sound. She says it sounds like a sheet metal popping sound. It mostly sounds like it's from the roof, but sometimes in the front of the car, sometimes in the back. The car does have a moonroof.
Of course, I'm out of town all week. I told her to take it to the dealer and have them take a listen. Just be sure to describe exactly what you need to do to make it happen.
Did some searching but came up cold. Here's my issue and pardon my ignorance if it is something obvious. Iv got a '12 Golf R and lately when I come to a complete stop I hear 1 single popping sound right before I reach 0 mph. It doesn't happen at any other time that I have noticed. What that could be? Where I can get a replacement Battery Cover?

It seems to be coming from the cushion in base of the seat or maybe down in the lower part of the seat back. I remember a thread a while back about this problem but I forgot what the diagnosis and solution was. I did a search but nothing came up, maybe I just used the wrong key words, I don't know.
View 24 RepliesJust replaced the front struts last week and the upper control arms this morning. After putting everything back together I drove her around the block and noticed a horrible popping and squeaking like something was loose. I quickly limped her home and double checked that everything went back on properly and was tight. Car is the V6 with eibach's and about 103,000 miles I have drain and filled the tranny every 30-40k.
What this sound might be? It goes away once I am above about 10-15 mph and sounds like it is coming from the center underside of the car. I will also try to get a video of the sound while I am driving.

01 taurus pushrod motor. Vulcan? Today it started idling poor/ stalling. I can hear a popping sound from muffler. Almost like a coffee percolator. No codes. Motor seems quiet. No odd noises or metallic sounds. Friend says burnt valve? Last week or so I thought I heard exhaust drone on acceleration. Almost like a hole in muffler. But muffler is good, same as exhaust pipes. The perc sound is not rhythmic. Sort of uneven. Like a chugging/ puffing sound. Intake manifold leak? Upper/lower? This year does not have IMT. Intake tuner device?

View 3 RepliesI have a 2012 GT lowered on st coil overs. I'm getting a popping/clunking sound coming from the rear. It happens at random times. In turns, going over bumps, straight, and on flat surfaces. I thought it might be the dreaded subframe clunk so I got the Tyrol sport deadset rigid kit and that didn't work. I have tried raising and lowering the car with the coil over adjustments and it makes the noise still. I have also taken the rear coil overs completely off two times to inspect them and all mounts both times using new bolts and retorqued to spec. Also while i had them off I have jerked and pushed on everything they are attached to see if there is any play in anything. I see no signs of anything bumping or rubbing under the back end and the sound is getting worse.
