I have an 97 Altima. When I hit on the brakes, it seems to be okay, but once I let the pedal go, there are clicking noise coming for the front wheels.
View 9 RepliesI've noticed a creaking sound coming from the left front wheel when I go over a couple of particularly large speed bumps. I have had a lot of problems with the suspension in this car, and have replaced the front struts, the front right control arm, and the sway bar links and bushings. My best guess is that this noise is coming from the front left control arm, as it has not been replaced, although my current mechanic says that the front left control arm is fine. Also, it has been under 10 F here the past few days, so this could also just be a result of the cold weather.

I THINK my wheel bearings are going on my 2003 Nissan Altima. It has about 95k miles on it and it has been making what I would call a mid-toned rumble or a low pitched rattle (imagine shaking a metal box full of rocks). The noise is coming from the front driver's side. It's more subdued when driving in really wet weather. I am more aware of it when I drive at slower speeds. It doesn't seem to change when I turn the wheel either way, and it definitely gets more pronounced when I go over a bump or a rough patch. I recently had my front rotors and pads replaced, naiively hoped that might fix it - wishful thinking - and stupidly forgot to ask my mechanic about it then. I need to call to schedule a repair, but I would like to be prepared and to know if anything else might make this noise. (and I don't want to jack it up and shake the wheel or anything).Approximately how much does it cost to have this fixed?
View 3 RepliesI really enjoy my 2009 Smart car, excellent gas mileage, fun to drive too. The only drawback is all the dust coming off the front disc brakes that makes my front wheels look filthy even when the rest of the car is clean. Are there other brake pads that work as good as the factory originals yet don't give off so much dust?
View 4 RepliesA while back I posted a thread trying to fix a clicking noise coming from the front end on my F-350 dually when applying the brakes at slow speeds (under 15 mph).
While returning from our camping trip last week the noise is back again. It does not occur after the truck sits overnight or for a few hours. But after driving for 30 minutes or longer the clicking will return when I apply the brakes at slow speeds. I tested the rotor temps with a heat gun and it seems to start when the rotor temps get above 120 degrees F. So I removed the brake pads & calipers, regreased the slide pins, cleaned up the pads and applied some lubricant on the back of the pads. I also bent the pad clips so they would fit snugger/tighter in the slots.
Whatever I did seemed to cure the clicking while driving around this weekend. I made sure I got the front brakes nice and warm - up to 180 degrees or so.
When I did this same procedure a few months ago the clicking went away - but eventually returned.
Should I get some better clips? Replace the sliding pins? Pads? The rotors & pads were replaced this winter & the shop said they and the labor are still under warranty. But if they use the same clips - I'm concerned I'll be back to square one in a month or so.
I heard that 13,14 had this issue my 15 GS is having this issue as well. Clicking noise is coming from front wheels It's like few clicks in a row when turning the wheel left / right.
Is there a DYI fix. Don't want to take to dealer they might duplicate the problem. It's not such an issue but when window is down I hear it kind of makes me wonder why a $60k car is making those noises.
I have a horrendous squealing noise coming from one of my rear wheels. Sounds bad at low speeds, changes frequency to higher pitch when going faster. The sound isn't constant (some times nothing), other times loud as hell. Sometimes gets worse when turning, then nothing when straightened out. When breaking, sometimes the sound gets worse, then goes away. It doesn't sound like a bad wheel bearing (had one go before- more of a growly noise). This sound is too high pitched. Also, checked the brake pads (plenty of life left), and rotors are good too.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2000 Nissan Altima that works great except when the weather becomes cold in the winter. The brakes don't work when I turn on my car. The brake lever will not press down at all and once or twice (before I realized this was happening) my car went sliding down the road without an ability to stop. I can't tell if they start working after the car warms up or after I've pumped them for a while because they'll start working again at random times. Sometimes it takes a few seconds and sometimes it takes a few minutes.

View 10 RepliesI have a problem with the steering. Sometimes a clicking noise is coming out from the front left side when I sharply turn the wheels or hit the brake. The car was in a local garage today and they couldn't find the problem. 2 mechanics checked the suspension, cv joint, axle, wheel bearing... also 1 of them driven the car and found nothing. Tomorrow I show them the clip below.

View 7 RepliesI have a1997 Nissan Altima 140k miles with the manual transmission. I have a fuel problem that I can't seem to solve. every 1-2 days and only intermittently and unpredictably my car starts to idle up and down and occasionally if I don't give it enough gas they car may stall but the stalls only happen when I am not pressing the accelerator, meaning only at resting idle. since I am fanatic on washing my engine, I initially though that spark plugs were dirty or not working, I changed the spark plugs the distributor cap and the wires but the symptom continues. then I check the resistance of all the four fuel injectors and all of them read at around 12.8 ohms. I have also treated the fuel system twice with injector cleaner, the kind that you find at a gas station but still, the problem persists.
if it is not too much trouble I have another smaller questions. if the car sits overnight or for a couple days, the shift is really easy but as the car warms up the shifting becomes harder. could the transmission fluid need to drained and replaced?
on 1997 Nissan pickup 2.4-liter engine do you have to take off the valve cover to clean out EGR ports.

But the car keeps burning out spark plugs it will start right up with new plugs but after running for about 5 minutes they burn out turn black.

I recently purchased this car and it had the CEL or check engine light on. The part store stated the codes were: P0304 X 2 and P1445.
Here is my problem that occurs mainly once the engine is warmed up- it started bucking and hesitating whenever I push the gas pedal. It doesn't do it when the engine is cold- at least it is very slight and hard to notice. On the highway at constant cruising speeds the car rides and purrs great. While I'm idling at a red light the rpm is constantly dropping about 100 rpm every second.
I have tried the following:
-Replaced distributor cap. The cap was slightly corroded.
-Tested spark plug wires by applying then to metal and looking for spark.
-Did a dry compression test and all cyl ranged from 150-160 psi. (Good levels??)-
-Sprayed carb cleaner around manifold to see if idle changes - nothing
I am fairly a novice at mechanics so I'm still learning. Perhaps the car has stale gas? Not sure how long it has sat, or even if it has been sitting. bad injector? Bad fuel pump/ filter?
I have an intermittent grinding noise coming from what sounds like both front wheels, it sounds like metal on metal almost like something metal rubbing the rotor but I just put new pads on and the noise was there before as well with nothing touching the rotors but the pads. The sound will appear out of no-where at low speeds of 35 or below and will continue until I brake and slow down, just before I come to a compete stop the noise will stop with a slight clunk.
I can then drive away with no noise. I am pretty sure it is not brake related except maybe ABS somehow but was also thinking front axle or diff, also have read posts that are bearing related, but both at the same time?. It is the slight clunk before stopping that I can not figure out is related to. It is an 05 f150 xlt 5.4 super cab 4wd with 85k miles
I am getting this weird clicking/ticking noise coming from the rear of the car. I might have to let someone drive the car and follow and listen for myself (but i dont like other people driving my car), but its definitely coming from the rotation of moving.
It is audible moving forwards and reverse. It speeds up as the speed increases. It comes from the passenger side and can hear it mostly from the sound bouncing off things from the outside. I cant feel it, its just an annoying sound. I still hear it while applying the brakes. Sort of sounds like flicking sound. Pads have plenty of life and changed my rotors about 20k ago.
I've read somewhere about brake pad spring busting but its still audible when the brakes are on so I don't think that's it.
My wife has a problem with the check engine light coming on and staying on. The dealer has replaced the fuel pump twice (which they say is the problem) but it keeps happening.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2001 nissan altima. About 4 weeks ago it started over heating, smoke coming from under the hood, not the gauge raising. I took it to my mechanic and he replaced the big hose going from the radiator to the engine. I got it back and about 2 days later it started again overheating again, smoke under the hood. Took it back and he said the radiator is leaking it was under a year old so he replaced it, i drove it home on a sunday and monday morning I drove to work 5 miles at 10 am break it had two puddles under it. He said it's the radiator again, replaced it and we went to pick it up and he said it blew again. Sounds odd to me He finally said they thought it was the fans. The gauge never ran hot only the smoke coming from under the hood. If your looking under the hood it was wet on the left side. Needless to say he has had my car for almost 2 weeks and it's still not fixed. My question is should I go get it and take it somewhere else. What damage will it do to drive it somewhere else?
View 19 RepliesIt's Nissan Altima 97. My friend need to take her road test so I let her borrow my car this weekend to do some road practice (I was in the car with her). Besides all the heavy braking, and sudden acceleration. She did alright. Because she is from VT, so she was practicing this VT Turn Around (I have never heard of it before today). She turn the wheel all the way to the right and back up.
I heard a small popping noise, and didn't pay too much attention to it at that moment. However, After she finish that VT Turn Around, we started to driving down the hill, and heard this metal-on-metal noise. It lasted for 10 ft, then went away. The noise is coming from my driver side front wheel. When I got off the car, I found the center of the wheel cover pop off.

Now here are my questions. What just happened? and do I need to get it look at immediately, or can I wait until the next oil change?
