my mercury sable had a leak in the lower intake manifold, so I got on it and finished it last saturday, on monday I was on my way home when I stopped to turn on my road and my speedometer just stopped working, it dropped to 0mph, what can I do to fix it?

View 2 RepliesSome guy I know was driving his 99 Mercury Sable Le about 30 mph when the speedometer suddenly died. Why did the speedometer suddenly die? The car continued to run albeit a bit sluggishly. He then stopped and turned off the ignition. He had been driving the car for only 5 minutes and the heat gauge was at the normal midpoint where it remained for almost an hour before declining. Why did the heat gauge take so long to decline? There also is a precedent to this puzzle. A couple weeks ago, he was driving the car 55 mph when the speedometer fluctuated wildly from 0 to 55. He stopped and after 10 minutes resumed driving without a hitch. Now he's had the 30 mph speedometer problem. In neither instance did the engine repair light appear. What's going on with the speedometer and the heat gauge? Where are those Magliozzi brothers when you need them?
View 4 RepliesIt appears electrical. With it running and this first symptom usually guarantees that it will stall. You go from park to reverse or drive the speedometer needle will begin pulsating. I have notice if this is not happening it won't happen. Next standing still but in drive or reverse if you turn the heater, radio, lights or the AC pump kicks on. Boom the car stall and almost act like the key switch was turned off then back on. It also has happened while moving but it does not stall but all of the dash light pop on as if you just turn the car on.

View 4 Replies2003 Merc. SABLE. AC works great for 1/2 hour on the highway. Then No cool air. We shut it off. An hour later and 70 miles down the road , it works again. Always cold air.. no matter where you set temp. 4 times to 3 mechanics. No one can solve it.

Before, it was change the rotation ( sometimes the stayed higher and sometimes low) without I pull or push the accelerator. The transmission oil is ok, and the car didn't have noisy or other symptoms of transmission problem. What Are doing it? What I need to do?
View 9 RepliesRecently purchased a 1997 Mercury Sable and all because my Camry after 13 years finally gave up the ghost. "SES" light came on, and I filled up with gas and used Lucas car product as well. The light went off 2 days later. 5 days later, it came back on. Purchased CRC spray and cleaned the air mass flow component. Light goes off. A week later and it's back on again. I figure an 02 sensor needs replacing. Took car to the mechanic that sold me the car and their diagnostic test stated 1 sensor in bank 1 and another sensor in bank 2. Okay, fine. ordered only 1 sensor and told me that it was the "most imporant" sensor as it relayed to the catalyst. fixed it and no more than 7 miles up the road, YES, it came back on. Unhooked the battery cable, light off all day until about 30 minutes ago. Pulled into an Advance Auto Parts store. Diagnostic test showed the 2 errors that the mechanic YESTERDAY was getting before he "fixed the problem."

View 4 RepliesI have a 2002 Mercury sable and have a problem with power windows. When you hit the driver's door window up button, you hear a relay constantly clicking under the dash, fealing the relays up there it seems to be one of the top 2 in the bank of 4 at the top of the fuse box feeling for vibration as it clicks. Any of the other buttons results in a single click then nothing and if the door's open as it was when I worked on it,the door chime stops and no window buttons make clicks or anything until I hit the driver's door up button again. Now if I pull one of the relays I mentioned, hitting the window up and down buttons from the driver's door does make the relay click once when pressed, once when released.
Am I correct in thinking this is a power window relay under the hood, voltage seems alright where I checked it but not having a wiring diagram or anything I have no clue what's what I only checked as well as I could from the fuse box. Another interesting issue which we've had off and on for a while now is when you put the car in gear, it will ding for about 3 minutes, seems more like an hour. No lights or anything, is this all related and I'm all wet on the window relay, or do I have something else going on here?
I need the windows to open, I got sick of replacing AC compressors so pulled it out so we have no AC, it gets hot in there fast. I couldn't care less about the dinging if that's unrelated, the windows worked last I knew which was only a few weeks ago, that dinging was something it did in the fall when someone ever so nicely broke in to the car making the driver's door no longer lock with the electric locks, another problem I can't find but that wasn't a huge concern, that door's obviously been apart many times in the past so I'm not the first to have problems with it.
My 1997 Mercury Sable has been having a rough time starting lately. It will turn over, but 2 out of 3 starts will be labored. It will crank, but hesitate and finally give enough to start. When I start it at night and turn on the headlights they dim and flicker until the engine has been running a bit.
This car was originally my wife's, and she can't remember the last time it has had it's battery replaced.
today all of the sudden my ford f150 5.4 liters speedometer started to not work and the airbag light came on while it was having trouble shifting! the windshield wipers don't work as well! checked all fuses! after messing around with smacking things under the hood it started to shift right but has a glitch in the electrical and it sounds like it's trying to start( this is while it's running) it's all glitchy...
View 4 RepliesI have a 2002 Mercury Sable wagon that is SOHC. Recently the air conditioning stopped working. Took it to a mechanic and he right away found a puncture in the A/C manifold assembly line. I bought the part, gave it to him and he changed it. From there to the next day the A/C was blowing ICE cold until 5 minutes into driving the next day LOUD clanking started happening and it started to smell. Took it back to the mechanic and he says I have to replace the condenser, a/c compressor and drier because the compressor seized. Now my question is, would I really have to replace the condenser? I thought those only needed to be replaced when in an accident? I'm trying to avoid spending over $600 to replace a bunch of things I don't need to replace.

I would turn the car on to warm up and it would screech for any where from few seconds to about 1 min. when i got hotter it would only do it for a couple of seconds. the gas was low so i went ot put gas in the car and after i was driving it on the highway and it cut off on me. first the tow guy said it was the fuel pump or filter or strainer but it was one of those. I had it towed to my house and a mechanic friend said it was the t-belt not the fuel pump. i just want to know what could it be . I have a 1998 mercury villager with about 170,000 miles...
View 3 RepliesI recently acquired a 2003 Mercury Sable from a friend and there is a problem with the air conditioning. The car has digital controls. I select the Max AC button, turn the temperature all the way down (60) an the fan all the way up, but it only blows warm air. I can hear and see the AC compressor cycling fairly quickly. The clutch (I think) engages for about one second and it will reengage after about 5 seconds, but again, it only says engaged for about one second.
What could be the problem? I've read the AC system might not have enough pressure and needs to be recharged. Or... the orifice tube is clogged, bad AC pressure switch, or the actuator that closes the heater door might be disconnected.
How quickly should a properly functions AC compressor cycle? The car was not driven much over the past year or two as it was my friend's grandfathers. I may end up taking it to a shop but I don't want to get ripped off. How should I approach this?
My speedometer stopped working yesterday. I would like to find out what might have caused that to happen and what I'd need to do to get it fixed.

View 2 Repliesi have a 2001 mercury sable what im getting is its will not start but starts on occasion like today it started fine this morning did errands before work drove it turned it off short period and then started just fine and then drove to work after work it did not want to start tried every thing check engine light is not on and has not come on im am getting stumped i had to leave it in the parking lot at my work so my question is what could make it do this where it starts on occasion and then when sitting for a period of time will not start it cranks but just does not start
View 2 RepliesI have a '99 Mercury Sable with the 3.0 24 Valve DOHC V6. The car occasionally will not start. It only happens after the car has been driven and warmed up, shut off, and then an attempted restart. This problem has occurred in all sorts of temps. Sometimes it will start within 30 minutes, sometimes it takes overnight. But it will start. I have already replaced the fuel pump relay. Is the fuel pump needing to be replaced (b/c it is failing slowly), or is this problem located somewhere else?
View 12 RepliesBought this car, drove it home, when I went to restart it nothing happened. Put in a new battery and still nothing. The starter will arc with a screwdriver but not engage. All the lights and and electrical work so I am thinking its either the neutral safety or the ignition. Is there a way to figure out which one it is with out buying both of them?
