Lincoln :: 1964 - Intermittent Engine Knock On Driver Side
May 3, 2013
I have a 1964 Lincoln Continental convertible that has an intermittent engine knock on the drivers’ side; it isn’t there when the engine is cold and does it only sporadically when it’s hot. The car was not driven for many years; when I bought it in 2010 the plates on the car expired in February 1974.
I’ve tried high octane fuel, lead additives, and heavier motor oil; the problem is a little better, but it still happens. What the cause and the solution is?

Recently got quite a noticable clunk/knock from the front driver side of my '10 Sonata with the 2.4.
Only happens at low speeds, most notably in parking lots.
My best guess is a stabilizer link or a ball joint.
Took a video to explain the sound I am hearing.

I have an 06 grand Prix, about a month ago I started hearing a knock on the front driver side n it has gotten worst. At first I thought it could be a hub bearing or tire rod ends but I noticed service abs and traction system lights are on.

I hear a knock once in a while when starting my 2004 2.7 V6 Santa Fe and sometimes when shifting gears. I also hear it when going over rough rough, bumps, tracks etc... I'm thinking motor mounts 152k on the car.
My question would be how many mounts are there, exactly? I've seen three, but maybe another two for the transmission.
The front mount has some separation, but can't tell the others, as I haven't gone under the car with a flashlight just yet.
The majority of the knock seems to come from the driver's side. not sure if that narrows it down at all.

Just replaced inner and outer boots. All seemed to go well. Just got done with some errand and noticed a light knock on the driver side when turning left. What might cause this?

I was minding my own business, when my air conditioner started blowing hot air. I took the car to my mechanic, and it was working fine. So--sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Why?

I'm having an annoying intermittent squeak that seems to be behind the driver's side seatbelt adjustment tab. When I press hard against the area it seems to go away or is diminished. It's an '07, still under warranty.

I have a 2002 Lincoln LS 3.9L. Intermittently the temp. gauge will go up near hot, the fan will come on and gauge will drop back to normal. Car will go into limp mode when this happens. Fan and thermostat were replaced several months ago to eliminate this problem but it is back. Mechanic had trouble getting air out of the cooling system at the time.

I get this intermittent whistling noise coming from the rear drivers side. Sounds like a coffee pot whistling on a stove. After I drive about ten or twelve miles it goes away and diminishes into a hissing noise. Is it possible the fuel pump is failing? I have a 2005 trailblazer with 105000 miles.

My 1988 Standard 2WD Toyota pickup truck has intermittent scraping in rear driver side wheel. It only occurs after slowing down from higher speeds and making a turn. It seems to happen IN the turn. The scraping pulses and is in time with the speed of the truck. Once it starts scraping, I stop for a minute, then it goes away.
This makes me think it is my rear brake drum, overheating and locking up. I've jacked up, in neutral, with handbrake OFF and both rear wheels have extreme resistance when I turn them by hand. I also jacked the front to compare the resistance of the front wheels, and there is nearly none. Not sure if this is normal since it is RWD.

The climate control in my 1995 lincoln continental will stop working on an intermittent basis but only in the summer. It usually seems to happen on very hot days after running a few errands. It only lasts 2-15 minutes and then operates normally for days or weeks. This has been happening for years. Nothing shows up on the mechanic's computer as respects diagnostic codes.

There is an intermittent scraping sound in the middle of the dash on a 2007 Lincoln town car. It is a low mileage car, about 40000 miles. It comes and goes. It doesn't seem to make any difference which position the ac controls are in. but climate control has to be on.. There is also a sound when you turn ignition off, sounds like water moving. I am thinking it might be something with a blend door actuator.

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante that I have owned since 2008 purchased it with 60,000 miles on it. Currently has 131,000 miles. I have always kept my car in good running condition and performed all of the scheduled maintenance per the owners manual. Last month I noticed a slight cold knock on the right side of the engine that would go away when the engine warmed up. I checked the oil and noticed that it was a little bit low (maybe half a cm below the lower threshold on the dip stick). I added oil and continued to drive it, still knocking.
Bought some sea foam thinking it was the lifters and sprayed a can in the intake and poured some in the oil. Then changed oil with 5w-30 synthetic, have been driving it for about 500 miles now and the cold knock seems to be getting worse and I can faintly smell burning oil when it is idling as I let it warm up before driving off. By the time I get to work the knock is essentially gone. My oil levels have been fine... My question is, should I be explaining to my wife and fiscally responsible self, that I need to be looking for a new (read used) truck sooner than I had initially planned? Or, is this something that can/should be addressed or just drive it until it gives out...

2006 Prius has a strange intermittent tweeting sound that appears to come from the front drivers side, maybe in the console. Mechanic says it is in the tires. But I just can't go with that. The sound almost is like a cricket...

I have a 2001 Lincoln Town Car that has an intermittent vibration that can be felt when seating in the car and you move the gear shift lever to D for drive. The car has 141,000 miles. It is an automatic transmission. The vibration cannot be felt when touching the steering wheel. What could be causing the vibration?

Had the death wobble a couple of months ago. Changed all shocks, steering stabilizer to bilsteins; new tires (stock), ready lift stabilizer(stock, no lift) had it digitally aligned. All was perfect. Until my new intermittent steering issues. It appears to happen when making a 90 degree turn, say a right or left onto a perpendicular roadway. As truck straightens out, you'd think the front drivers side wheel is going to fall off(you'd think the lugs are missing).
Pull int a parking lot, drive in a few circles, and all back to normal. Can't replicate every time, force for s few days with no issues, then it might happen again. Other intermittent issue is sometimes, again out of no where, truck will pull and track to the right or left. Pull the steering wheel the opposite direction, it'll track the other way. Again, pull int parking lot, do a few figure eight circles and back to normal. Alignment shop and regular mechanic say everything is tight, ball joint look fine.

As the title says, I have an intermittent issue with the power window in the driver's door. It always works, with the exception of when it gets really damp during the night. In that case when I get in the truck first thing, the window will go down, but not always up the first few tries.

1998 Lincoln Town car will not sit level side to side. Was sitting lower on driver side with air bags , i went to coil springs and still has about 3 inch difference side to side . Driver side sits normal now and level with front but passenger side real high . Seems to be an equalizer that pivots on the 3rd member that keeps both sides moving together in anti roll motion . I wonder if it is splined and can be adjusted there ?

I have an intermittent knock under the hood, only when idling at a light etc. One mechanic replaced the AC compressor, expansion valve, etc - still a knock. They put in a second new compressor - still knocking. A second mechanic replaced the expansion valve - still knocking. Air conditioner has worked fine from the start.
