View 8 RepliesI have very good question. My 2001 Santa Fe has 200k miles, I think the car is great. Regular maintenance, and the car drives still drives strong and comfortable.
Here is my problem: The power steering fluid is disappearing. There is no puddle under the car, I got under the car and everything is dry. However about once a week (+/- 200 miles) I have to add power steering fluid. I have cleaned the reservoir twice and confirmed that the top of the reservoir is also dry ( so is not bubbling off the top of the reservoir).
I have put newspapers under the car while parked overnight to see if there is a leak and the news paper is dry in the morning without a stain.
Fluids do not disappear. Could it be leaking while driving (high pressure hose) and its leaking from a location that I cannot see? Where is the "banjo connector" that I have heard referred to ?
1984 f150 with a new master cylinder, new brake booster, and new fluid. I did use dot 4 fluid (as opposed to dot 3) and bled out the system. This was about 9-10 months ago.
Just recently I noticed my brake pedal was going further down before I stopped; but I stopped. Since I switch between my car and truck a lot I thought this may have just been my imagination. What finally clued me in was when I couldn't stop as easily that something was obviously wrong.
Checked the master cylinder and the front reservoir was obviously empty. I couldn't find an obvious leak so took it to a shop. The added more fluid, bled the brakes and said its fine. They couldn't find a leak either.
Sooooo, any thoughts as to where my front brake fluid went? I'm assuming they took the wheels off and looked at the calipers too but I'm not sure I'll find out when I go pick it up in an hour. Could the dot 4 fluid have something to do with it? The brake lines, mast cyl, booster, proportioning valve and calipers are all bone dry. No obvious fluid leaks. Soooo now what.
I own a 2007 Toyota Camry XLE with about 95,000 miles and I was wondering if changing the transmission fluid is ever necessary. The maintenance guide, which shows required maintenance for every 5,000 miles through 120,000 miles, never mentions the need to change it (unless I'm doing towing, which I'm not). However, I found some articles on the web which suggest that it should be changed every 50,000 miles.
View 14 RepliesI currently have a 07 camry v6 with u660e transmission. Going to drain and refill of transmission fluid? How many quarts do i need for drain and refill? It seems it doesn't have a transmission dipstick.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2010 Santa Fe V6. The transmission fluid filler cap is too close to a housing unit that a wrench or a socket won't fit around it but I also noticed another plastic cap that is connected to it and was wondering it that was for (is this where you fill in the oil? seems too small). I've attached a picture and would love to hear what you think. The filler cap is at the bottom and the plastic cap is on the top.
View 12 RepliesMy mechanic says the transmission fluid in my 2007 Rav4 (about 47K, normal driving) is black and needs replacing ($144). I called the local Toyota service department who said this car has a sealed transmission and replacement is not needed. The Toyota maintenance schedule does not recommend replacement until 120K miles.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2007 3ld with 195 000 miles so about 300 000 km - I think it may be beneficial to change the transmission fluid as I have no plans to change the car.
View 3 RepliesWhen I import my contacts from my iphone 5 to the nav unit they disappear after a few days? I try place a call my saying dial Home etc and it tells me no contacts found?
View 1 RepliesI just replaced the ignition coil as recommended by the computer and the car ran fine for a few days. Now it starts missing about a mile after starting, for a while. Then it almost never misses after it is fully warmed up. The computer does not find any issues at this time.
View 2 RepliesI have been negligent regarding the timeliness of replacing my transmission fluid on my 2007 Honda CRV. Have 70K miles without changing and was told by the dealership that it should be drained and refilled because it was no longer pinkish in color and was brown. I asked about flushing and they said something about the pressure may damage the "celenoids?" and cause the transmission to not shift smoothly. I asked 2 different mechanics at local gas stations and they each said to flush it (although one said that if the fluid was black he wouldn't advise flushing and just replace, and the other said that if over 100K, that flushing could cause the transmission not to shift smoothly).
The dealership wanted 120 to drain and replace, the gas station mechanics want approx 240 to flush.
I recently bought a used 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe 4 cylinder AWD. Does the transmission have a fluid cooling system? If I pull a boat that weighs less than the 1600 pound limit should I drive in "D" or manually select 5th or even 4th gear?
View 1 RepliesI just found out there is no dip stick/fill tube for my 07 Expedition 6spd 6R. How to refill after service without using a flush machine. I also can't find any spec sheet on how much to refill or how to tell when it's full.
View 9 RepliesI have a chronic problem with my 2007 Prius. Whenever the temperatures get colder outside, the electronic dashboard disappears. It never happens during Spring and Summer.
View 1 RepliesMy wife has a 2007 Toyota Sequoia with only 17,000 miles on it (as of Mar 2013). It has had regular scheduled maintenance - engine oil changes, etc. However, due to low mileage, it has never had Transmission or Radiator fluid changed. All miles have been in town, short trips. Is there a need to have these fluids changed just due to the age of the Sequoia and type of miles driven. It is an expense I would rather not do unless necessary. We do plan on keeping it to well past 100,000 miles. Considering the age and miles, is there anything else that I should be watchful for or take action on?
View 13 RepliesMy 2007 Kia Spectra makes a slow, faint scraping sound when I make a hard right turn. The sound comes from the front end. It doesn't happen during slow right turns, left turns, driving straight, or braking. It isn't the creaking/groaning sound of a ball joint or the "click-click-click" of a CV joint.
I've been researching, and it looks like it could be a variety of things, from a loose lug nut to a loose hub cap to a loose brake caliper to a bad wheel bearing. Which of these problems it's most likely to be.
I have 2007 sport trac 4.0 liter V6. I have noticed for the past week or so that I have antifreeze leaking from the bottom of the radiator and I had to add some coolant to it the other day(1/2 gallon). I know it is the radiator leaking and not the overflow so I am going to go head and order me a radiator and change it. I have read that some of the replacement radiators was not lasting but about a year before they leaked. From what I have read on the internet a lot of ford owners is having this same problem with the radiator leaking at around 60,000 miles. Also there is no transmission dip stick to check the fluid, will I lose enough fluid that it hurt the transmission. I have just had the 60,000 mile transmission service done.
View 9 RepliesHere's the scoop, was driving down the freeway the other day, car is a 2001 PT Cruiser going about 65-70 MPH when all the sudden it felt as if I had hit something, a loud bump sound which came from underneath the engine, then an immediate reduction in speed and acceleration. After that, I was trying to accelerate the car, the RPMs were revving like crazy but the car would not go more than 15 MPH, while the RPMs were revving and revving, almost as if I was in park.
Got the car to the side of the road, opened the hood and found that the top of the dipstick (transmission) had blown off and shot transmission fluid all over the engine. Unsure of why this happened but sure that was what the loud sound was before the drastic drop in acceleration.
After that I had the car towed to my house, now it will start, but not drive in reverse at all, i'm afraid to try driving it to inspect it further but that's pretty much where I am at right now. There's 117k miles on this car...
5.8L C6 .... I can't get a good reading on my transmission fluid level. When the truck is cold the level is well above (2") the checkered area.
When the truck is hot, I can't read the dipstick. It either has a little bit of oil well above the checkered area, or there isn't enough in the transmission to register.
How to get an accurate reading?
Have only driven 550 miles in my new CRV and out of curiosity checked oil and transmission fluid levels. Discovered dipstick for transmission fluid was bone dry. Took it in to dealer. They agreed that their service dept somehow "forgot to top it off" from the factory but told me that I shouldn't worry, not a problem. But I am worried that I have driven the car for a month in that condition. Is it likely engine may have suffered in some way?
View 7 RepliesI have been changing the transmission fluid. It seems the consensus is that unless you are driving under extreme conditions (other than "normal"), it may be advised. I am probably driving my 2006 V8 Phaeton "normally" but I am not sure of its previous life. For example, it lived in hot and humid South Carolina and may have done a lot of highway miles. So I am thinking about changing that fluid for safe measure.
