I have a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta with 78K miles. The brakes are squeaking, so I am assuming that the front brake pads need to be replaced. The front brake pads were replaced in 2010 (I don't remember the mileage).
View 2 RepliesLately, when I make a slight turn at fast speeds (i.e. freeway exit ramp), my car makes a sound like the anti-lock brakes are kicking in without me even touching the brakes. This doesn't happen all the time and can happen on the smoothest/driest of surfaces. More confirmation of ABS kicking in is the fact that the car slows down when I hear the noise.
I took the car to the dealership to investigate/fix this noise. The dealership said that the cause was uneven tread wear on the two front wheels (5/32 difference). This sounds like bologna to me. What do you think?
P.S. the car is a 2006 VW Jetta 2.0T
I have a 2001 vw Jetta with a manual transmission (just over 155,000 miles). My first set of front brakes lasted to about 135,000. After they were replaced a shimmy started to appear when braking a few thousand miles in. At about 8,000 miles the shimmy became so bad that I brought the car back to the dealer. They said the rotors were warped. The pads and rotors were replaced again and in about 5,000 miles same thing. The pads and rotors were replaced again at no charge and it is now about 5,000 miles later and the same thing is happening again.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2007 Chevy HHR. A couple of weeks ago I had to change the caliper on the driver's side of the car. I had some squeaking after, but bled the brakes and the squeaking went away. The other day I took the caliper off and painted it. I have custom wheels and you can see the caliper plainly, it was rusted so I painted it. Now I am getting the squeaking again, but it stops when I apply the brakes. I bled them again, but still the squeaking. This is driving me crazy. Could it be the "chirper" that is dragging on the rotor? Also I want to add, it squeaks until I get up to about 45 mph. Then it stops. And as I said, it stops when I apply the brakes.
View 6 RepliesWhen I apply the brakes on and off while in park, I hear a "fluttering squeaking" noise. I examined the brake pads and calipers, and everything seems to be fine. I greased up all the brake hardware and no luck.
Also, I have a popping noise while making turns while I am not braking. I really doubt there is any connection with the brakes? I recently went testing in a parking lot, and while slightly turning from left to right I noticed the popping constantly. Keep in mind no brakes were applied.
Last year the dealer replaced the brake actuator and all arms were replaced. BTW, I am past my extended 100K warranty!!
I have a 2007 Passat turbo wagon and my cat converter got a hole in it the other day. I drove in morning and it was just noisy otherwise fine. My wife took it in afternoon and almost didn't make it home. Could hardly make it up a hill and brakes had to be applied to floor. Anti lock would vibrate but not very responsive to stopping. Was towed to local mechanic next day and he thinks problems are related. Could the computer cause a breakdown of the brakes due to bad exhaust system? He says he can't find ant leaks in brake system. He is waiting for the cat converter to come in to replace and hopes brakes will work again.
View 10 RepliesIn April, took my wife's 2007 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 to my local import repair shop to have the a/c looked at. I explained that it took about 5-10 minutes to cool, depending on driving conditions. They looked at it, checked the pressure and said it looks fine. No problems. It also wasn't a very hot day when they looked at it. So now I need to diagnose this problem so maybe I can fix it myself. To better diagnose, I have the following facts:
From a cold start, when the a/c is turned on and set to highest fan speed and coolest setting, both engine cooling fans do not spin. While driving- the higher the rpm's, the faster the a/c gets cool.Cools faster at highway travel. After returning from a drive and parked at an idle, the engine is hot, both engine cooling fans are seen and heard running while a/c is still on.
While idling in the driveway after a drive, when I decrease the a/c interior fan speed to 1 or 2, the engine cooling fans slow down. While idling in the driveway, when I turn the a/c off, the engine cooling fans slow further. A/C is ice cold when working, maybe 45 degrees. High and low pressure are correct. Engine temp is within normal limits. What part I need to repair or replace?
I have a 2007 Jetta with 75k miles on it. What I'm running into is that out-of-the blue, the car will not start. Generally, it turns over, but never starts. One time, it started but shut itself off after 3 seconds. Warning lights that flash are the steering wheel indicator and sometimes the traction control and immobilizer lights. I replaced the battery hoping that that would fix it, but it hasn't. Notably, the engine light is usually on when starting and goes off after 3 seconds, but now it doesn't go on at all.
The issue first started a few weeks ago, but I could successfully start it 15 min later. No issues for 2 weeks, until the traction control light came on and stayed on while driving. Nothing for a few days, and then suddenly could not start again (tried over a period of 3 days). Towed to a shop, where it started after two days.
After putting my Ford Ranger in park and pressing down on the E-break to get the news-paper or mail. I've noticed that there is a consistent squeaking coming from the back drum brakes when the brake pedal is applied. But only for a certain period of time; then the squeaking stops.
View 8 RepliesExperiencing a squeaking noise coming form a VW GTI. I have a 2006 GTI and when the car is cold and I first drive it I hear a squeaking noise coming from under the hood when it's idle. Typically once I accelerate it goes away and it does this till the car warms up. I checked all visible belts and air lines for wear and leaks but nothing obvious. And given my mechanic is 30 minutes away by the time I get there it stops making the noise.
View 2 RepliesI have had my RC-F since November and two days after having it the brakes have been squeaking. I had thought that It would work its way out just had figured since it was new it had to work its way off of the brake pads. I have 1100 Miles on it now and it is still squeaking.
View 14 RepliesSo my front brakes are squeaking pretty damn bad, and I'm pretty sure that I need to replace them. However, with the history that we have with the rears wearing faster than the fronts, and since neither have been replaced in 30K miles.
I don't want to have to come back and go at it again, and would rather spend one day then two getting the job done. .
We bought my wife's V8 2005 Treg new in December of 2006. It had sat on the lot of the dealership with several others so they were doing what they could to get rid of them. Anyway, it has been awesome, with a few electronic issues, but the one problem that will not go away deals with the brakes. They squeak all of the time and the Treg only has 13,000 miles. It seems that it goes away right after a carwash, or if I intentionally brake very hard. The dealership has inspected the brakes and states that nothing is wrong and that this just happens.

40K miles on it, and the rear brakes are squeaking.
I have some new rotors and pads picked out, but i dont know if i have the Bosch or the Girling rear calipers...
So I'm at the dealership because my brakes have been squeaking at low speeds for the last two months. They measured the rotor thickness and checked the pads and calipers. Their response is that this is a common problem in Texas humidity with the type of brake pads that are used. Apparently almost everyone is dealing with this.
New pads or to shave my rotors are not covered under warranty.
My 2013 gs 350 f sport sounds like a school bus. I already replace the front pads with a new set of oem pads and had them resurface the disk too. after a couple of hours the noise came back! seems like my lexus dealer can't solve my issue.

View 1 RepliesBought my Prius about 14 months second hand . Despite 112 checks or whatever, within a few months the brakes were grinding. I took it to a local garage and they said the pads were worn to near nothing and replaced them all. They said I had scoring on the rear brake discs, so I replaced them too.
I got really back noise with the front brakes every time I used them after a few weeks. Took it back. Was told that the front discs needed replaced (and off course the front pads again). It was soon back to noisy and they replaced the front pads for nothing. The problem went away for a few days, then returned, but only a very low speed braking (or when putting the final squeeze.)
That garage tried a few things, then said it was my heaving braking glazing the pads, so they roughed them up. Problem hadn't gone. Add to this that the non-moving parts are really rusty looking, it looks naff.
Well, I took it to Kwik Fit having had some time to save some money for a proper fix. They would be happy to replace all discs and pads, but it'd cost abit. Called Toyota, they cost about the same. I left my car with Toyota yesterday pointing out the problem and a few other things I wanted fixing. I made it clear I felt the brake discs and pads were 'crap' and not Toyota and wanted them replaced. They said they'd inspect and do what was necessary.
Well, I've new windscreen wipers, they sorted out a separate problem and cleaned out the front brakes. According to Toyota there is nothing to stop those parts of the brake disc that aren't moving from rusting. They also said the discs and front pads were fine. Well, that squeaky noise is still there.
Why, after practically begging, did they not just replace everything? Is there any other possible explanation for the low braking speed squeak? Why don't brake discs not come with those parts not in contact with the brake pads painted so they won't rust?
I have a 2012 Touareg TDI Lux which I absolutely love for so many reasons. Since almost day one my brakes squeek when I back up only. I now have 6200 miles on my vehicle and it drives me nuts. It can be wet, dry, backing up fast or slow and it shrieks.
Just dropped by my local dealer and was told it is something to do with the pads seating which is BS after 6200 miles.
I am asking this question for a friend of mine that lives about 2 hours away from me. She is having trouble with her brakes squeaking all the time. She just had new pads put on the car about 2 years ago. She stopped by a brake shop and they said the pads are good but the rotors have something on them which is making the squeak. I told her the rotors could be turned down to remote the varnish but she said the guy told her the rotors could not be turned down. Since she has moved since she had the new pads installed there is no way to get them to do it correctly. How to make the brakes stop squeaking short of changing the rotors.
View 8 RepliesI just picked up a 2013 SEL CPO, I noticed after I took the car home the brakes starting squeaking, I took it back and the Service Advisor told me this was a known issue and the only thing they could do is so put some crap I don't know what he said but he said it was but it would wear off and start squeaking again...
