2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Limited--4.7 V8: when the car is turned off--there are sounds coming from the dash--passenger's side--like escaping air--like a whoopee cushion--maybe for one minute. Is this the AC system---or air bag or ???
View 4 RepliesVehicle has been in the shop several times within one month( Battery test, replace accelerate idle switch, rear end replace) latest dilemma is with a constant clicking sound coming from under/ near dashboard on passenger side . No interior lights. All this occurs before I turn over the ignition. On some occasions if I enter the vehicle and don't hear the constant clicking sound. Whola, the vehicle starts every time. I disconnect the battery cable when coming in over night. 1997 112,000 miles.

View 1 RepliesMy Jeep sounds like it is in low gear and engine sounds like its turning 4000rpm but only when cold. This is so noticeable that dogs stare and pedestrians run for cover. Once the engine and drivetrain warm up a little, all is normal. The reality is that the engine is only turning 2500rpm and it is shifting, but the tranny doesn't feel like its grabbing very well. After just a few minutes driving, all is well and there is plenty of power. Fluids are all topped off and fresh.Is it time to warm this baby up and drive it to the nearest car lot?
View 5 RepliesI have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has about 165K miles on it. I bought it used in 2004 and a week later, I started experiencing the following problems:
Originally, the Jeep would start and would run fine but nothing on the dashboard would work - gauges, mileage, lights, nothing. AC and power winds also wouldn't work. After several days, everything would start working fine again. This occurred three or four times during the winter. I got it checked out and the shop said that the body control module was shorting out, and that when it was wet was when it was having problems.
In 2005, the Jeep started having an issue with not starting. It would crank but not turn over. I discovered that if I disconnected the battery for a minute and then reconnected it, the Jeep would start up just fine. I've been doing this ever since.
I had the BCM replaced in 2006 and I didn't have any problems with the Jeep starting or with the gauges for about 9 months. Then everything started happening again. Now I have to disconnect the battery about once a month to get the Jeep to start.
I figure there must be something else other than just the BCM being bad since this is the second BCM I've been through. I think there must be something else causing the BCM to go bad, but I don't know what.
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V6. I am ready to sell it but I have a problem and the problem only happens when I'm driving it. Every once in awhile..about 7 times a week, when I turn the key it will make a one click noise but not start. It then starts after the 2nd or 3rd try. I have now taken my Jeep to 3 car repair shops. It has never happened with any of them. They have checked the usual suspects: battery, alternator, and starter (I even had a new starter installed just in case) and everything checks out. My latest car repair guy has had it for 3 days and it starts every time. The last time I brought it home 10 minutes after I had cut my car off and got back in to go somewhere, it did it again. There is no consistency when this happens whatsoever.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee (115,000) and a 15 month old battery that failed. Gauges read fine, but when I tried to start car when key turned, it was clicking. I turned key off, it kept clicking. I took key out of ignition and it continued to click for about 15+ minutes. During this time I stuck key back in and turned key on (all while still clicking) and my needles on gauges were going crazy back and forth. When I turned the key as if to start, the needles on the gauges went BEYOND their normal scope. Almost a Linda Blair effect. Battery was replaced, alternator check was good and it started up perfectly and immediately. Now, a few days later, it labors a bit before starting. How do I diagnose and electrical problem? By the way, the gauges all the while read straight up and down normal.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a start button and key fob and all the new electronic controls. While driving recently, the dash electronic console display turned off (I thought the car engine had died). It spontaneously lit up again, but all the warning and check engine lights were on. The car would only move forward very slowly (as if stuck in 1st gear). When I was able to pull over safely to the side of the road out of traffic, I was unable to get the car out of drive into park. Because it wasn't in park, I could not turn off the engine! I was afraid to take my foot off the break, fearing it would begin moving, so I couldn't get out to disconnect the battery. Is there any way in these new technology cars to force the engine to shut down in the event the electrical system is malfunctioning?
View 9 RepliesSo today I'm out running errands. Its hot and the ac is on. I notice water is coming out from underneath the dashboard on the passenger side. I pull the floor mat and water is everywhere. Soaked!! Ok so the ac water that's supposed to drip outside and underneath the car is now dripping inside the car. I pull off all the plastic crap, glove box to see if I can tell where its coming from. Not seeing it. Also some crap must have gotten wet because my check engine light is on along with a flashing vsr off light.
View 6 RepliesRecently (last three months really), I've been noticing an oscillating squeaking noise coming from the passenger side of the dashboard on my '07 LS460. I've troubleshot the problem and have it isolated to coming on only when the A/C is turned on (recirculated or outside air- doesn't matter). When the A/C is off, the sound goes away.
No other squeaking noises at all coming from anywhere else on the car.
I have a sneaking suspicion it's related to the tensioner belt connected to the Air Conditioner, but I'm honestly not sure at all.
Might this be a more relatively simple belt issue? A/C is running pretty much all the time when the car is on- wouldn't be surprised at all if we've simply worn the belt through.
I found this link outlining a similar problem, but again- I'm not entirely sure I want to go the route of the full tensioner assembly replacement if it's likely just a belt: [URL] ....
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 120,000 miles. The engine light came on and I took it in for service. The catalytic converter was defective and replaced. After service and 30 miles the light came back on. They erased the memory. After 35 miles the light came back on. So far I have returned 4 times and they cannot find the problem.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2004 Chevy cavalier with 133,000 miles. For the last week I have been hearing a ticking noise - seems to be coming from inside the dash board on the passengers side (glove compartment). The ticking noise begins when the engine starts up and stops when the engine stops, so the noise is continuous while the engine is running. The car runs well, no loss in power, nothing out of the ordinary, with the exception of the noise. I opened the hood and listen - the sound seems to come from inside the firewall.
View 5 RepliesI have a 98 honda civic with greater than 200,000 miles on it. I've only had it for a couple of months now and for the whole time it has driven great. I do need to change the oil and was getting ready to do that this coming weekend but today when i was driving it, it kind of bogged down then was fine. Then it did it again and just died. I then restarted it and it was fine for a few seconds and i was going in reverse, then it did it again and died again. Now it wont start at all. It turns over but just doesnt start. Also there is like a clicking noise that sounds like its coming from the dashboard on the passenger side.
View 10 RepliesI have a 2001 Grand Cherokee 4.0L with 215xxx miles. It just started stalling coming up to a stop, but then it starts right up no problem. Engine idles a little rough and the gas mileage has gone down somewhat. The CEL came on a while ago, and the auto shop checked the computer code and said it was the neutral safety switch. I brought this up with a friend who had the same problem and he rebuilt his and said it was easy. So I was going to attempt it, but I can't find the darn thing. @ questions:
1)where is it? and
2)could the NSS be causing the stalling?
When I drive over 55 i have a shaking through the car after driving for a while if you put it in reverse it feels like it is binding up and when you put it in park you can hear a thumping sound coming from the drive train i have replaced both cv shafts in the front (they were bad) and the passenger side hub. I am going to replace the ball joints with after market ones because it pulls to the right and the stock ones do not have a camfer adjustment is the binding a differential problem or a transfer case problem also if while the engine is off if you shift to neutral you can feel it release the tension on the drive train.
View 2 RepliesMy 1999 jeep grand Cherokee with 170000 miles with a straight line 6 cilinder has a knocking noise coming from the valve cover area. It is only present during a cold start and for about 2 to 3 minutes. Once it starts getting hot it stops. The engine runs fine it has lots of power and I do not have any other issues.
View 5 RepliesRandom crackling sounds coming from inside the dashboard? After hitting 5k miles a few weeks ago, and while driving on a highway one day, this loud crackling sound started inside the dashboard. At first I thought it was the windshield separating itself from the car. It's loud, lasts a few seconds and you can hear it coming from the length of the dashboard.
I thought it could be the vents, but it crackles no matter what condition I'm driving in. It just randomly crackles if I'm driving fast or slow, on the highway or city streets, if the AC is on or off. It evens crackles when the car is stopped at a red light.
2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 4.7 L. Clock from right side of engine immediately after starting engine. Seems to be in rhythm with engine and increases in frequency as I rev. Gradually subsides over first 5 minutes and not audible after that. Recent small leak of transmission fluid, but I'm thinking that has nothing to do with this.
View 12 RepliesMy wife has been complaining of sounds that are almost musical in nature coming from the dashboard area of the car. She said the sounds occur periodically and are a Duh-Duh-Duh type of sound that is almost musical. She says she can't tell exactly where the sound is coming from. It is almost like some kind if warning sound and just last occurred as she pulling into our driveway a few minutes ago. She said the MPG box in the center was pulsing in sequence with the sounds.
I have never had this happen to me to me. Taking this too a dealer would, most likely be futile, unless the problem could be replicated while at the dealer. She listens to Satellite Radio and I do not. Could this be of any consideration?
Developed a very annoying plastic creek/ tapping sounds from the passenger side C pillar. Almost sounds like it coming from between the c pillar and the rear window, but can't be sure. It's definitely trim related and not suspension. Also how difficult it would it be to remove the C pillar Plastic cover?
Lastly, how many have had success in getting rattles/ squeaks worked out after the 1 year adjustment warranty? I did mention that on a service visit when it showed up right before the warranty expired, but it was very warm that day and the rattle went away.
I've noticed when going up hills where the engine is working, there is a rattle/vibration that seems to be coming from the passenger side dashboard/glovebox area. I've opened both glove boxes and made sure nothing was in it and the rattle still continues. It sounds like there is a screw loose in the plastic inside the dash that is vibrating.
