Have a 2005 Grand Cherokee, problem when lites are on high beam & I switch to low beam the lites turn off.When I flick the switch they come back on. Also when signaling or wipers are on sometimes lites start flashingand or go out. Any clues?

View 14 RepliesJust discovered that both high beams are not working. Regular lights ok. When switch to high beam both go off. I know some bulbs have two filaments, is this the case for this car? Are the bulbs burnt out or something else is wrong?

I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with about 240000 miles on the clock. Words cannot describe how impressed I am by this car. However, yesterday I noticed that the selector switch where one chooses to direct the air output has failed me. It seems to be stuck in the windshield defrost setting, unable to redirect the airflow to anywhere else. I am however still able to control the temperature as well as A/C settings. The switch felt strangely 'limp' almost as though it is no longer connected to whatever engineering or witchcraft it is attached to behind the control panel. What are your thoughts on this? Could it be as simple as some mechanical linkage that has snapped off? Just to recap: blower motor, heat and A/C are not affected by this.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee 68,000 miles. For the last 3 days it won't start. When I turn the key all the lights, gauges and air will come on. When I go to start it, all I get is click, click, click, click. When I connect jumper cables it starts right up. I had the battery, alternator and starter checked and they are all working good.
View 1 RepliesOver the past several years, this has happened maybe once a year. However, in the past three months, it has happened three times. The shut down always occurs at low speeds. In each instance, I had taken my foot off the accelerator and was coasting to, say, make a turn into a driveway, or enter a parking deck, or move slowly in traffic. I'll realize what happens when i notice that the steering wheel is locked. And then that nothing is happening except the car rolling.
Every time, the car has started back up, immediately, without incident. (Of course, I have to stop the vehicle and put it into Park before restart. Only once have I had the problem where someone was right behind me.) Several mechanics have been unable to figure out what is causing it because this never leaves a code in the car's computer. What is going on and what he might service to fix this?
I recently began hearing a noise from my car when I change the temperature inside the vehicle. When I adjust my temperature control either direction, hotter or colder, I hear a temporary clicking noise that is pretty loud. It sounds like it is coming from behind the dash. It sounds mechanical and stops after a few seconds. I have a manual temperature dial. This is not a digital display or climate control. This is on a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 120,000 miles. The engine light came on and I took it in for service. The catalytic converter was defective and replaced. After service and 30 miles the light came back on. They erased the memory. After 35 miles the light came back on. So far I have returned 4 times and they cannot find the problem.
View 6 RepliesI bought my jeep about a year ago, and have had major problems with the computer system. My car wouldn't start for days on end, and then one day would start right up. I just went ahead and replaced the whole computer, wiring, ect..and it ran fine for about 4-5 months. Once and a while the check engine light would come on, but nothing happened. Then one day my car died right in the middle of the street when I was driving it. All the lights in the dash go off and it just stalls.
Sometimes it starts back up immediately,and others I have to sit for a god 15 minutes. Sometime it'll do this 5-6 times in a day, others it won't do it at all. I noticed it does it more often when it's hotter outside. I got the check engine light checked (it comes on only once in a while) and the code said it was a cylinder 6 misfire. I took it into the shop and the checked my spark plugs and said they were fine, and they couldn't find anything. Could this be related to the new computer? What I should have checked on it?
My 05 Cherokee has begun to jerk while driving. It's only just a jerk or two and then it smoothes out and drives fine. It only happens while driving never from a stop.It is also hesitating a little while starting. It always starts but I have never had this problem before. Not sure if the two issues are related or not but thought I would mention it.

View 3 RepliesMy 2004 has suddenly decided I should drive with dome lights on all the time, as if starring in an episode of COPS. Seems something is reading my driver door is not closed, even though it is closed. Besides lights on, unable to use controls to roll down window or lock vehicle. Also, there is now a whistle emanating from the bowels of this silver beast. Seems back near the fire wall or underneath. Sadly, this 2004 JGC does not even have 150,000 miles and things are going south for the winter to retire in Florida. Had one form 1993 and it lasted over 400,000 miles and my 1999 had 250,000 before I met Mr. Ice. On top of these goings on's the right rear wheel is causing a scraping noise, but not 100% of the time.

View 4 RepliesSo I recently bought a 1997 7.3l F250. It is in fairly good condition, but it has some problems with the lights working. The turn signals and hazards all work, as do the tail lights and headlights. However, when I hit the high beam switch, the headlights cut off entirely. Also, the brake lights do not work at all. Ive checked the bulbs and since they all work Im not sure what the issue is.
View 3 RepliesI have a problem with my jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 5.2v8 losing oil pressure when the engine reaches normal operating temperature. the jeep sat for 2 years but we got it to run. when normal engine temperature occurs, the engine drops oil pressure and stalls. I have changed fuel pump,oil pump and oil pan gasket. also ran a cleaner through the engine. it doesn't matter if its winter or summer. the only way I can keep it running is to keep my foot on the gas pedal. if I don't do this the jeep stalls. a mechanic said it was the bearings. I don't believe this because there is no knocking noise when the engine is running. it has 103663 miles on it. it has just city and highway miles on it. never has been off road.
View 18 RepliesMy wife says our 2002 Grand Jeep Cherokee very rarely hesitates as it moves from first to second gear (once every week at most). I've never felt the problem, but she says its happens when from a dead stop into 2nd gear. And she said there are no other times when the vehicle hesitates (fine in every other gear). No other weird noises and the power seems fine. Its an automatic transmission and I've had the fluid and filter changed recently. What it is? Transmission? It is due for some new spark plugs... any chance it could be that?
View 4 RepliesAbout a year ago the oil stopped showing on the dipstick of my 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is the original dipstick. I have changed the oil, filled it according to manual. It runs well, engine has no ticking (unless its low on oil, then I add a quart), pressure is fine. Just no way to check the oil !The tube is still attached from looking at the outside.
View 19 RepliesLast summer my wife's 2000 Grand Jeep Cherokee began shutting down while driving (electric stays on) on early hot days after about 40min of driving; even when the AC is off. About 10min later we can restart as before (before that it won't even crank). Over the winter the problem went away but returned again this spring/summer with the hotter weather (>80C). Its not the no battery or alternator and no one can seem to figure out the problem.
View 1 RepliesI have a 95' Grand Cherokee, V8 5.2L. Recently, it started overheating and was diagnosed as a head gasket issue at a shop. I ended up replacing the head gasket, thermostat, and water pump. (The radiator, top radiator hose, and radiator cap were replaced within the last year as well.) Despite the repairs, the coolant in the reservoir does not move. The Jeep overheats and there is a squealing noise coming from what may be the water pump. There is also a slight leakage of coolant near the water pump bypass hose, but does not seem to be coming from the hose itself. What else am I missing?
View 7 RepliesI'm having an issue with my 93 Grand Cherokee with 193k miles.
The RPMs will fluxuate and even drop to 0 at times and the whole Jeep with shudder and shake and then the RPMs will return back to normal. It could just drop down once, or several times in a row. I've even had it completely die a few times and I'll have to restart it. It's the worst when idling or driving slowly, like through a drive through or a parking lot, but the Jeep will still give a small jerk at times during acceleration as if it's trying to do it but can't completely.
I know next to nothing about cars but I have a friend who has assisted me with few things. We changed the fuel filter which he said looked like it may have been the stock fuel filter. He hooked up his compressor and blew all kinds of black garbage out of it and concluded it definitely needed a new one. He told me just to run it and see how it did, which it did fine for awhile but today it seemed to be acting the worst ever with it shaking and shuddering and trying to die but it didn't. He also looked at the spark plugs and told me that while they were aged they didn't look bad enough to be worth the money replacing...
