My jeep seems to be making a ticking noise in the back windshield. I notice it when I've been driving it for a while or on hot days. Once it starts I'll continue to hear it even though the car is turned off. Is it the glass? The seal around the windshield? How is something like this fixed.

after shutting my jeep down I ve heard liquid moving. I decided to find the source. it turns out that I was hearing the oil draining back into the pan.
I was under the jeep with my ear next to the pan, no doubt of source.
this lasted about 15- 30 seconds before stopping. the front of the jeep was raised about 6", as I had parked it that way.is this concerning?
I was recently going to change my valve/rocker arm cover gasket, but decided to wait because it did not seem to be leaking and I did not want to use the inexpensive cork fel pro gasket that I had bought, I decided to wait until I could afford the more expensive gasket.
I did notice thru my oil fill cap that there is a lot of crud under the cover and I am concerned that my oil return drains are partially clogged.how can I clean these drains when I do change the gasket? since it has been strongly recommended here that I do not disturb the crud I m not sure how I should approach this. could vaccuming the loose crud with a shop vac be okay?
ps. dropping the oil pan is not an option right now because of the extensive labor involved on this model and the expense of all the new seals and gaskets required. I ve bought 200 bucks worth of parts and fluids this month and it will be awhile before I can afford more.
right now I have brake shoes, tranny filter and fluid, above gasket, oil and oil and fuel filters waiting on me to work on, and other non mechanical things.
to summarize my questions...
1) does noisy oil drainage concern you?2)how can I clean oil drains?
a. can I pour kerosene thru to clean oil drains, and to flush oil pan, which I can t drop right now?
b. can I shop vac under the valve cover?
c. should I add sea foam to oil for a bit before changing?
Our Jeep Cerokee windshield wipers do not close down. They run but do not go to the close position. Is their a simple solution, or do we have to replace the wiper motor?
View 1 RepliesI have a 93 grand cher with 194,000 miles on it. I have never had a problem until now. When driving the jeep sometimes it stalls and then starts back up again and you keep driving. Or othertimes it stalls when you are stopped and you need to start it back up. I had it at 2 dealerships but they can not find anything wrong because it is an intermittent problem and never happens when they have it.

View 4 RepliesI have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport edition, automatic transmission, about 100k miles. Recently, when I turn on the engine -- sometimes -- it is very loud, and the car really shakes back and forth (in place) with the engine. It almost feels like the car is going to die. It feels like a very bad idle. If I wait, nothing changes. If I turn the car off, wait, and turn it back on, nothing changes. If I hit the gas, it continues, but decreases very quickly and by the time I hit a stop sign or red light (let's say 100 yards away), the car is more or less fine; no more fear that it's going to die, although there's still some noise that seems like it's coming from somewhere between the transmission and engine. I had the starter replaced last June (when it went kaput) and replaced the idle control valve a couple of months ago (the car kept dying when I came to a complete stop). I mainly drive it to/from work, about 50 miles each way, going 45-80 mph on a hilly freeway, and there have been no problems while driving.
View 2 RepliesHad a howling noise that sounded like a bearing going out. After searching, I see that the fan belt is actually sliding on the pulley. Looks like a vertical alignment problem. It could be the idler pulley, the fan pulley or possibly the lower Crank (?) pulley knocking it out. I can see the belt sliding approx 3/8 to 1/2 inch . At idle it sits closer to the engine, as rev it seems to line up. All this action certainly means the belt is shot. But could be idler too.
I went through a few things to check it out. I looked at the power steering unit, pulled off the belt and check if there was any obvious play in each of the pulleys. All seemed ok. The idler seemed rough running but no wobble of play in it. I will replace the idler anyway since I bought one. The belt has no damage to it. It was changed about a year ago. So it's just been wandering on the fan pulley. Went to the Crank pulley and the dampener .and it feels tight. There are some obvious small plastic cracks on the outside. friend suggest pulling on the pulley and look for separation between the inner, outer, and rubber ring in between. Felt and looked tight. After I change the idler anyways, I'll look again. But could the crank dampener still be bad?
My 94' Jeep cherokee 4.0l 2wd has had an issue that the steering over the course of several years has get some play in it now. It also makes sounds as documented in the video. I should also note it doesn't seem to do it when it's warm, but when it gets around 50ºF or lower the problem is there. [URL] ....

View 5 RepliesMy husbands jeep is driving him crazy. He drove it to work and started fine. Then went to start to come home. Nothing. No crank, no click, nothing. Towed home. Battery OK. Anyway, he put new starter on. Started up. I drove it to station. Got in to come home. Nothing. Same darn thing. We jumped it. Pushed it out of way. Started. It's done this many times. Let me say, though, he went through a huge amount of water before this happened. Gauges went nuts for a while. Don't know if this could've messed up a sensor. He's losing sleep over this.

Well I've got a minor clunking somewhere under there that seems to vary with speed. now I have to figure out what it is. my working theories are wheel bearing, or one of the three hundred odd universals under there. perhaps a brake shoe or the transfer case. This is my first 4wd, so I don't know about transfer cases.... there is also some kind of weird double universal under there, I can t remember the name off the top of my head.

View 1 RepliesMy '03 Jeep Grand Cherokee seems to be having an array of problems lately, I think they might be related. Almost 100,000 and its falling apart on me. When I start it up on cold mornings it has a loud whining noise. The check gauges light comes on and shows the oil temp as being cold. After leaving it idle for a bit, I will go to drive it and the heater will shut itself off. Later in the day after the first cold start, the loud whining and check gauges light don't happen again. But the heat shuts off every now and then. Is it all related?

So I have this thumping noise, almost sounds like something is loose.The noise occurs for a few seconds when I accelerate from a dead stop and then goes away, it returns when I slow down and almost come to a complete stop.The noise also goes away when I put her into 4wd.The thump/rattle sounds like it is coming from the center counsel area and directly under the floor board in the driver seat.My car changes gears smoothly up and down while driving.
I was told it might be a transfer case problem and that it might need to be rebuilt, which makes me worry.
We were flagged down on the highway by a very nice fellow motorist because we were gushing coolant. It was gushing. My passenger was a guy friend who used to work as an aircraft mechanic and works on his own vehicles, so I deferred to his supposedly greater automotive knowledge when he said I didn't need to call a tow truck. We got to within 100 feet of my mechanic (about 5 miles away) when my poor Jeep conked out after losing power and making an increasingly loud clunking noise for the last 500 or so feet. We pushed it in to the auto repair bay. The engine was smoking and would not start. The mechanic replaced a worn out radiator hose, which had become disconnected from the radiator (due to swelling, I think he said?), and the truck runs. There isn't a discernible difference in the engine performance after driving it around town for the day. My question is this: is the engine likely to be FUBAR and am I just playing a waiting game until it croaks?
View 8 RepliesMy Jeep makes a whistling noise in cool/cold weather (~60 degrees and below) that no mechanic has been able to diagnose let alone fix the problem. Here are the details...
-high pitched whistling (can be heard inside and outside the car - very loud) only when temps are about 60 degrees and below-after 5 minutes of the car running-only when RPMs are about 2.0 or below.
However, RPMs can be higher when it is colder out and it will still make the noise-as you push on the accelerator, the noise gradually decreases until RPMs are high enough to completely stop the noise.
When temps are around 50-60 degrees, sometimes the whistling will stop after the car has been at a complete stop for about 1-2 minutes-If you turn off the car and let it sit for 1-2 minutes, then turn it back on, usually the whistling will be gone. It will need to sit in the off position for longer the colder the temps are. This problem has been ongoing for about 4 years.
I have a '98 Jeep Wrangler with various problems, but the most recent one has to do with the turn signals. When I intentionally use them, they seem to be working, but when I haven't signaled I still hear the ticking sound, only double-time. The sound is normal when I turn the signal on, and only stops when I apply the brake. I recently took the top off and left the Jeep uncovered in a couple of storms. Could this have caused electrical damage? Also, the left turn signal has required some finesse for as long as I've had the car--I've always needed to fiddle with it to get it to turn on--so I'm wondering if it's a wire connection that has deteriorated over time.
View 3 RepliesHaving problems with a squeaking or ticking noise coming from the front windshield area on the passenger side? I took off the A-pillar and tweeter speaker cover, and the noise was still there. Pressing on the A-pillar did not work and it's not any of the cords or plastics in there rubbing. It almost sounds like it's behind the A-pillar. Pressing on the dash, windshield, headliner, etc. all have no effect on the noise.
I'm trying really hard to fix this myself because I'm worried about a tech tearing apart the dash trying to fix it. It might end up worse than it is now. I'm thinking this TSB will need to be done (which seems to apply to all Toyotas): [URL] ....
Next on my list to check is the passenger side mirror (make sure it's fastened securely) and also the black liner under the windshield wipers. I also have foam (like the kind you use when installing a window AC) which I may also try stuffing into the bottom of the front windshield (and maybe the top) to see if that works.
If all else fails, the car is going to the dealer I guess. The Camry is such a quiet car that the noise is really irritating in an otherwise quiet interior. Other than this noise, the car is great! Just a little bummed because my 2005 has zero rattles or noises and my gf's old 2009 also had no rattles or noises. The 2015 refresh is nice, though we're still on the fence about the front grille. My relative is waiting for the 2016's to be released later this year and then he will be buying one for his patrol car. The 2015 isn't a full redesign but it looks different enough that he wants to wait for the next MY to come out. He's dreading leaving behind his 5MT Civic but it needs to be replaced. He hasn't had an auto, ever, come to think of it..

I have this noise on my cars head, its like a ticking noise that is coming from the top, more towards the back of the head.
It sounds like a bad lifter sound and gets louder with acceleration.
I have did a complete head overhaul-changed valves-lifters-seals-guides- also did oil pressure test and everything seems fine.

The other day, I had the wipers going, every time when they went back down to the "rest" position, they made this weird movement with loud noises, JUST want to make sure that it is normal, seeking some feedback before going to the dealer.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I absolutely love, but lately a I've been noticing a problem with it gradually getting worse. When I am on my way to work in the morning, and I get on the on ramp to the highway, as I start to accelerate the back end of the car starts to make a rumbling noise. When I look at my gauges the rpm's are going up and down kind of like it doesn't want to shift. The only other time I notice this is when I try to climb a hill on the road or highway. There is no check engine light on. I have had this problem for quite sometime, but just recently noticed it because it has gotten worse. My husband has had a few mechanics drive it, and has asked a few others about it. They either don't know or have a very wide range of things it could be. My friend I work with had a Pontiac Grand Prix. She said that her catalitic converter plugged up and caused her transmission to go out.
