I have a 2001 Honda Odessey with 114K miles. When I step on the accelerator I hear a whistling sound. The sound sounds louder as the RPMs go up. However I don't hear the sound when I take my foot off the gas or when the RPMs are 1,000 or less. What the sound is and what I should do? I had my transmission replaced last year and my wife thinks its related to the transmission.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2003 Honda Odyssey and every time I step on the brake pedal, it blows my STOP fuse under the hood (which takes out my ability to shift out of park, use my horn and the brake lights also go out.) When I replace my fuse, the horn does not blow the fuse, it is stepping on the brake pedal one time, even when in park before turning the key over.
Things I have tried: Changing all of my bulbs and inspecting the socket areas, inspecting most of the wiring and taping areas that seemed fine but might have been touching metal, replacing my brake light switch.
What could be doing this?! I have figured out that I can manually shift out of park using the override slot, but no brake lights is not good.
My wife was driving our Odyssey yesterday approximately 55 mph when the accelerator "all of a sudden" stopped working. The engine was running, but the car would not move. Stranded in the middle of the highway, she turn the car off and back on. The accelerator worked long enough to drive another 8 miles. We changed cars and I started the Odyssey and backed out of the parking space and put transmission into drive. The accelerator was all the way down to the floor, but the car would not move. The engine was on, but was not revving with pressure on the gas pedal.
Hauled the Odyssey to the dealer. Technician started the car and pushed the gas pedal to the floor with no result...and then the car lunged forward "all of a sudden." Technician and Service rep said "We have never seen this before." They kept the Odyssey to check it out. So, do they really know what's going on and just aren't telling me?
When I'm on the highway around 60 mph I get a whistling whining vibration sound. if I accelerate or ease off the accelerator it stops, but when I get back to around that speed it comes back. What this could be?
View 9 RepliesMy car developed an "intermittent" accelerator whistling noise coming thru one of the speakers (I think). The harder you accelerate - the louder the whistle. When idling, it sounds like an open air whirring noise. Of course every time I bring it to the shop - it stops and when I hear it it's never convenient to get to the shop!

View 12 RepliesI have a 1999 Toyota Camry (4-cylinder). When I step on the accelerator, it hesitates for a moment before accelerating. Once it finally does kick in, it isn't jerky but fairly smooth, just takes a while before it will go. Other times, when I accelerate, and the car is actually moving, I feel as though the RPMs are higher than they should be considering the (slow) speed that I'm going. These problems have increased quite a bit over the past few weeks.
Prior to this, my check engine light came on. An autozone employee checked the code related to the light and said I have a faulty EGR. He didn't seem to know whether or not this would be at all related to my acceleration problem. Someone else suggested that an EGR's importance is more environmental than functional. While I'm all for "being green"...can only afford one problem at a time, and the acceleration problem comes first.
If the two are connected, and if not, what my acceleration problem might be? How critical is a properly working EGR anyhow? The actual code according to autozone was EGR P0401...
I drive a 1998 Civic hatchback. Last night while I was driving I needed some gas. I pulled into a station and the only gas they had available was 93 (highest octane). I only ever fill up with 87 or whatever the lowest grade is, so I put 2 gallons in to get me to my destination and the opportunity to find another gas station. Shortly after, I was back on the highway and the engine starts making a loud rattling pinging noise when I step on the gas. I normally might have a low rattle or ping that I've never been able to get rid of, but never loud like this.
Then a few things happened– smoke starts coming out the exhaust, the check engine light comes on, and the car starts to overheat. Seems like it was pretty much all at once, although it was in that order that I noticed... I rolled the windows down and turn the heat on high, but the air coming through the system wasn't at all hot. I got off the highway and as I downshifted, the engine started to smoke a little. I get to the end of the off-ramp and the engine dies. It wouldn't start back up right away but I managed to start it a couple of times (between it dying) to get it to coast into a parking lot. Under the hood, there was coolant everywhere it seemed, but I couldn't see anything else apparently wrong– hoses, etc.
In the end I had AAA tow it home. So, what happened and what I'm looking at now in terms of repairs? I will need to have it towed again to a mechanic if it is something I can't figure out myself.
I just purchased a used 2012 Honda Odyssey with 88k miles. After not driving it for two days I went out and tried to start it. The powered side doors were working just fine, and all the gauges and indicators seemed to be fine and the power locks worked, but it did not start. There was no noise at all. It was as if the car didn't realize I had turned the ignition. I tried a few times, waited for a few seconds, tried again, and the car started like there had never been a problem. When it started, it wasn't weak. It started like new. The problem sounds a lot like mine [URL] .... except that it then started for me. We have been driving the car for less than a week, and as mentioned, I didn't drive it at all for two days, but it has had no problem starting any other time.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2007 Honda Accord. A few weeks ago, it started making a whistling noise whenever I was in reverse, however, it would stop when I hit the brakes. Then I notices a very similar noise while driving, again if I break, it stop. Also, if I go over 45mph or so, it stops. Just yesterday I notices a grinding noise/feeling when braking but only when the brake all the way down. What this could be?
View 6 RepliesAlmost every morning, when I put my car in reverse and then step on the accelerator, I hear a sharp "clink" sound from the front of the car. After I've backed from the driveway to the street, I put the transmission in drive and step on the accelerator again and often hear the clink again. It doesn't happen EVERY time, but has become very common in the mornings. It only started doing this within the last month or two. I haven't observed any other problems.
The car has about 80k miles on it and has not had any transmission work done.
I have a 1994 4x2 shortbed standard cab Ranger XLT. It has the 4.0 OHV engine, A4LD Automatic transmission, and 195,000 miles.
Under average driving conditions, it operates fine. It shifts up through the gears much like it always has, although the shifts may not be quite as firm as they used to be.
If I'm at cruising speed and step harder on the accelerator, it downshifts, RPMs increase, and it upshifts rather poorly, & then I feel a thump, (maybe the torque converter locking up when it shouldn't be?), and I'm in the higher gear. This seems to happen when it upshifts from 3rd to 4th gears for sure, maybe from 2nd to 3rd, but I'm not sure. Again, it only seems to happen when I attempt to speed up from cruising speed, not from a stand-still.
The transmission fluid and filter have been changed at regular intervals, and the truck has never been abused. The fluid is red in color, doesn't smell burnt, and the level is correct. I don't want to get rid of this truck if I can avoid it. It has been super-reliable and mostly trouble-free for the 16 years I've owned it.
I have had JoeZ/PTS catback exhaust on my rc f for a few months. I recently put PPE headers on and when I rapidly accelerate in park/neutral I get a whistling sound especially when backing of the accelerator. What it is?
View 1 RepliesMy APR dealer is double checking on this. Got an APR Stage 1 tune today and am now periodically noticing a whistling/slight rattle when I punch the accelerator. Only appears to happen when I build revs quickly. Never heard anything like this before the Tune.
View 24 RepliesI have a 2002 Honda Odyssey. I recently had the air conditioning compressor replaced. Now, when the A/C is on and I accelerate from a stop; the engine "whines" through the first 3 gears or so. Also, when the A/C starts up initially from a cold start there is an audible groan and light drop in RPMs. Also, if I turn the A/C off while accelerating the noise immediately disappears.

For a week, it made the squealing sound going forward, but it has now stopped that. We did recently have our tires rotated at Jiffy Lube... could a bad rotation job be making the squeal. Or is it something I can safely ignore..
View 3 RepliesI own a 1997 Honda Odyssey-a couple of weeks ago when I turned the key it wouldn't start....no noise,no clicking however the battery was working. I called Road service for a tow home and while waiting,I kept putting in the key.After 20 min.the car started and I drove home. Since then it's gotten worse. It's a gamble to go any where, never knowing if it will start or not. My husband replaced the ignition switch-that didn't work and now says he'll replace the starter ( if that doesn't work he plans on replacing the entire ignition cylinder). My alarm system hooks into the ignition...
View 4 RepliesOnce the car reaches about 80 miles per hour, a buzzing/humming noise is emitted from the front of the car. I can't tell whether it's from the dashboard area or the footwell area, but it sounds like it's coming from below. There seems to be an exact speed where the noise stops and ends. The car does not shake or vibrate when the noise occurs.
The noise has happened twice. Not coincidentally, those were the only two time the car has been above 75 or so miles per hour within the past few weeks. I have looked on some forums for similar happenings, and I found the answer could be bad wheel bearings.
Other problems with the car include a very-vibraty engine between 1000 & 1500 RPM, a gurgling noise at low speeds/idle, and harsh shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear.

I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey with 40K miles. The valves have been making a chattering noise for awhile now. I have tried different brands of gas (highest grade) - no luck. I took the car in to the dealer while it was still under warranty they could not find anything wrong. I took it again lately and they said not to worry. It seems like some sensor is not functioning properly but I could be wrong.
