I have owned car for 2 months.
Last few weeks the engine sounds louder at idle and there some vibration. The passenger side wiper arm vibrates due to engine vibration.
I recently started noticing that my engine sounds louder and rougher than usual. I have a 2014 GX with about 25K on it. I get about 800-900rpm on idle and about 1800-1900 when cruising 70-75 mph.
Engine sounding louder all of a sudden. No "check engine" sign pops up. I also took the car to the dealer and mechanic rode with me on surface streets and of course , everything looked normal to him.
So, after driving my car around for maybe an hour without any warning lights, I turned my car off. I tried to turn it on 15 minutes later when it turned over twice, sounding much louder than usual, then nothing. Tried again and just a single click. So I fear the worst and check the oil which is low but still on the stick and the coolant is fine too. I thought maybe the battery was dead so I tried a jump and that won't turn the engine over either. I put a charged battery from another car in and nada. I tried turning cam gear and also the flywheel pulley with a cheater bar and it doesn't want to move. I'm totally screwed right? That same morning I fiddled with the purge valves for the evap system because of a trouble code which O got to disappear. The engine also sounded funny for like 2 days only during ignition. By funny, it seemed to be louder than normal but no horrible metallic sounds or anything. Is it possible for it just to seize like that for no apparent reason?
View 15 RepliesI have a 98 Honda Accord 4 cylinder with 110k miles on it. It used to be very quite and drives smoothly. I recently had my timing belt and water pump replaced. Right after i got my car back from my mechanic, the driving felt differently. Two main problems, first, every time I stop at red lights or traffic, the car vibrates and you can feel it from the steering wheel. Second, when I start to accelerate and when engine is over 2100 rpm, the engine becomes much louder than before, I feel like I am driving a race car. Other than these two problems, the can seems to drive fine. I took it back and they told me this is normal and takes time to settle down. Is this normal after the time belt change or what might have gone wrong?
View 14 RepliesRecently bought a 2001 Accent that has been experiencing a 'rough idle' for the last few weeks. Basically, after I've driven the car for a few minutes (from a cold engine position) and then stop at a stop light or stop sign, I can hear the engine get louder and the car starts to vibrate slightly, after I've driven for about 15 minutes at higher speeds and then stop again I can actually see the steering wheel shaking when I take my hands off of it. If i put the car in park when I am stopped and the engine is on, the idle calms down quite a bit. The weird part is that when I first start driving the car in the morning, the rough idle problem doesn't happen until about 5 minutes of steady driving - so when the engine is colder I don't experience the problem, The problem is not that serious, and Ive already brought it into a dealer who cleaned out fuel injection, gave me a major tune up and replaced all the spark plugs, but the problem still persists. I am gonna bring it back to them but they seem a bit lost to be honest. Other than this the car is driving normally when I am not idling.

Gets louder as you rev the engine.Its not real loud and could live with it but just erks me to have that noise on a 60,000 mile car.Does these new electric motor driven power steering cars actually have power steering fluid ?

Now after I got it back from the shop, there is a oil leak near the front motor mount and my engine had gotten louder when i accelerate. also it smells like paint or something inside my car. what did the shop do?
View 3 RepliesI had the oil changed on my 2007 Honda Fit last weekend. Since that time, the engine sounds like it's in overdrive or high gear all the time. Even when stopped at a stop light, my car sounds like it's racing. Should I be worried? I checked and there is transmission fluid and oil in the car. I should add, this is the first time I've had the oil changed, I just bought this car (used) about 2 months ago, from a certified Honda dealer.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2006 Honda Odyssey with a little less than 50,000 miles on it. I love my car!! It is so comfortable and so durable. But.. lately if I have been driving at a high rate of speed, such as on the highway,for an extended period of time (at least 20 minutes) when I slow down or come to a stop it sounds like a quiet fire engine siren. I can't think of any other way to describe. Of course, I took it to my Honda service center and they couldn't replicate the sound. I even took the service person for a ride, but we didn't go far enough for it to happen. They said they gave it a thorough once over, but it is still happening. I don't want to take it back to them until I have something to guide them in the right direction. I love my Honda and I really want it to last me a very long time.

When completely cold, the engine on starting sounds very loud, a bit like an aero engine. On warming up however, the engine noise returns to normal. This problem apparently started quite suddenly, a few months ago. It is difficult to express a sound in words, but if the normal engine makes a Vrooom sound, then the sound when cold is more like an Aaaaaarrrr. I lifted the bonnet, and looking at the engine compartment, the sound seems to eminate from the left hand side of the engine block.
I did notice that when accelerating from a Stop sign just after starting the car, that I could here the engine revving up over the Aaaaarrrrr noise, and it seemed to be normal.
For reference, I am a qualified Engineer, but have little experience in car repairs. My practical knowledge goes as far as changing the battery, spark plugs or oil/air filters.
I have a 2004 Trailblazer LS with the 4.2L I6 and this problem just recently started and I found this video on youtube of someone having the exact same problem. [URL] ....
This noise is only there in reverse and drive. If you put it in park or neutral it goes away. Also goes away if you give it some throttle while in gear.
'02 V6 30v with 73k.. engine noise sounds like rattle consistent with idle sounds like its coming from rear section of motor. i did search came up with a few probabilities but no resolutions just wondering if possible it could be oil pump because if i add oil then start up the noise disappears for a few mins then comes back, a few guys mentioned it could be camshaft tensioner.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2009 Scion xD and when I am idling in D or P, my car sounds like a diesel engine. It makes this propeller kind of sound on the driver side and it is worse when I am stopped or idling, but does not go away when I am driving. It has about 76,000 miles and I moved from AZ to CA, not that I think that makes much of a difference, but the high heat in AZ can cause problems for cars. The heater core went out in the fall of last year and I just had all 4 struts replaced. I really don’t want to have to spend too much more on the car to be honest and hope this is just a simple issue.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2004 Camry XLE V6 with about 70k with a CEL P0171 that came on yesterday. Looks like that code is for a lean condition. Could it be a bad O2 sensor or is that a different code and what should I look for to fix this code?
Also, I'm not sure if this is related but for the past few months my engine has sounded different. When I first start it up and at low RPM like 2,000 and under the engine sounds like a go kart, not necessarily louder it's just a different lower tone that it never used to have. It has sounded like this for 6 months but the light just came on yesterday.
I have an '08 Civic Mugen and recently replaced my HID's. Soon after I noticed a buzzing noise that gets louder as I accelerate.
View 2 RepliesI own a 2007 Honda Civic. For the last several months, the car starts making a strange mechanical whining sound when turned on. The sound grows louder when accelerating or going in higher rpms. It also seems to get a little quieter when I turn on the air conditioning. But the soubd never goes away. Car otherwise runs perfectly fine and never fails to start. Took it to two different honda dealerships to have it looked at. One said it had something to do with the a/c, the other said the alternator might be the alternator. I tested the alternator with a voltmeter and it seems to be working just fine. However, when you open the hood, the sound seems to be coming from the alternator area.

View 13 RepliesOk, as promised I made a clip of my 2011 Ecoboost towing my 5-6K trailer with a 3" cat back MBRP exhaust. I gained over 2 mpg with this exhaust (MBRP) and intake (aFe) while towing. So far while not towing it only seems to have given roughly a 1 mpg increase over stock. I can barely hear the exhaust at highway speeds after the truck shifts into 5th and 6th gear. The wind noise is literally louder than the exhaust at 55 mph!

I am trying to diagnose a hunting idle on my 1991 Honda Civic. I have bled the coolant system thoroughly. Going to check for vaccum hose leaks next. However, I was thinking the next likely suspect would be the Idle Air Control Valve... I took it off and cleaned it with carb cleaner. I noticed that when I unplug the IAC's power plug the idle of the car slows a little bit, but the vehicle doesn't die.
If the IAC was functioning properly would one be able to expect it to close off all air flow and the engine, resulting in the engine dying when IAC is disconnected?
My friend has tortured my R32 which he was supposed to buy. I had the motor replaced while i was gone as he blew it , again , dumb. I have been driving it and it has a terrible whine in the tranny I brought it to my mechanic and we took a sample to find metal shaving in my tranny.
He says the tranny is gone but I am lost on how it shifts perfect except the whine. It does this louder in the lower gears and has a slight knock at idle and disappears when I press the clutch in.
I bought a used tranny already to put in. I also if this is the case and the tranny needs replacing I was told to also do the clutch , should I go stock to save money or go with a different clutch and possibly a LW Flywheel , is it really a drastic power difference?
