I was told I needed to replace the rear struts on my car since they had started leaking. How much does something like that run?

I have a 2010 Accord that started leaking power steering fluid at around 10,000 miles. In February 2011, I complained to the Honda service technician when I took the car in for an oil change about the leak. At that time, the service technician told me he did not see a leak and that I should simply continue adding power steering fluid as needed.
I took my car in for another oil change this month, now my car mileage is 46,000, and the technician informed me that the power steering fluid is linking and it is now necessary to replace the "rack" and "boots." The repair will cost about $1000. Though my car is no longer under warranty, the dealership agreed to pay for 50% of the repair. I have asked that the dealership pay for 100% of the repair, but I was told that they would not do that.
I have a 2009 XLE v6 with 82,000 miles. I have decided to replace the struts because they are leaking bad and beginning to see unusual tire wear (cupping). Based on what I have read, I have decided to use KYB struts. Should the springs be replaced at the same time?
View 2 RepliesMy driver side rear strut/shock has started leaking recently (I've attached a pic). Its counterpart on the rear passenger side is bone dry. My Prius is a 2010 with 78,000 miles, mostly city driving.
View 19 Replies1987 f150 302 4spd 4x4. When I bought the truck 4 years and 12K miles ago the orig owner had just installed a new front pump (in tank) and new switch thing on the frame rail. He said shortly after that the rear pump stopped working so he just ran off of the front tank. That's what I've been doing also except as of the last few months it has started to leak from the rear tank (I don't ever put gas in it and was empty when I bought it) and dies periodically from time to time? Where the leak could be coming from. I do suspect the dying has to do with the leak though.
View 3 RepliesMy 14 IS350F's front struts are leaking. I only have 11k miles on it. Taking it in tomorrow, but wondering why is it failing so soon.
View 13 RepliesI noticed my 2009 AWL Santa Fe (3.3L if it maters) had been 'bouncing' in the front end...so i brought it in to have it looked at.
The dealer here has advised me both front struts are leaking, and its still safe to drive.
This car bounces a lot, but on city roads, its not bad...On highway, you hit a little hump in the road, and it seems to bounce A LOT...for a bit of time, then settles. City driving isn't' that bad, its the highway that's freaky.
This coming weekend, I'm going camping, and tow 3500lbs with my Santa Fe, i have a weight distribution system/bars on the trailer to the vehicle. so it moves some of the weight to the front.
Have 63,000 miles on my 2011 Sante Fe. Took it in for maintenance at the dealer in Connecticut and the mechanic said the struts are leaking. I took a look at them and did notice that they have more of a sweat look on them. Dealer is quoting 750 to replace. Sounds high to me.
View 6 Repliesmy mechanic thinks there is a problem with the car's frame. Alignment testing showed the front right wheel sitting just behind the position of the left front wheel. He thinks he can fix it. Is that why the struts are leaking so quickly? or could there another reason?
View 8 RepliesThe other day my 2003 Subaru Forester was getting its oil changed and when it was done the mechanic informed me that my struts were leaking and needed to be replaced. He didn't seem to think it was urgent or anything. He mentioned something about roll overs and the wearing of the tires, but I'm not entirely sure what this means for the car. It has 140K on it, and I drive it a lot on the high way. I'm also planning to go on a trip in Mid July that's about a thousand mile drive. So, how soon should this be done? What do leaking struts mean for a car?
View 14 RepliesWe have a 2005 Camry XLE, with 102,00 miles on it. It has been very well cared for, and only serviced by our Dealer. We would like to keep the vehicle for another 50,000 miles. We have had an assessment of the vehicle done by the Dealer, because our brakes were very soft.
He found a great deal of air in the lines and flushed them out. He also found:
1.) Leaks in the power steering rack, which he graded as a level 8 severity on a 10 point scale. Repair estimate is $1100 to replace and align.
2.) Both front struts are cracked and graded for severity as an 8 on a scale of 10.
What do you think:
A.) Are these safety issues ?
B.) What are the consequences of delay ?
C.) Are these problems indicative of other likely problems ?
D.) Is it better to have a Dealer perform the repairs ?
When I push down (to test the suspension) on the front left part of my car, it depresses and comes up. The car stabilizes (stops shaking) nearly instantly. However, when I press it down, it makes a squeaky sound. Sort of a short lived, high pitch sound. The sound comes from the area where the struts/coil springs are located. I drive a 1998 Honda Civic DX 2-door.
View 2 RepliesWe recently had the struts replaced on our '99 Honda Accord (about 2 months ago I think), and since then, or maybe shortly after then, we get very loud unhappy creaking sounds from the front end. If the car has been sitting all night, it usually does not creak right away, and the sound is the worst after we have been driving for a while. It is most evident when turning or going over bumps at low speeds.
View 7 RepliesMy 2012 Honda Civic, with 71000 miles, is showing obvious signs of ball joint problems - a rattle at speeds over 50mph, and LOTS of noise when I go over a bump. I had a quick oil change yesterday, then immediately noticed the problem. Brought it back to the manager of the shop, who looked at it and couldn't find a problem (naturally). He said that the car would pass inspection with flying colors.
Is this a coincidence? Could I have worn ball joints on a car that's 2.5 years old? What could these people have possibly done to cause this problem? Could it be struts? The winter has created frost heaves which turned my street into a third-world road, and the car was involved in an accident 1.5 years ago when some lady ran a red light on me.
2002 Camry, 140K miles.
While I don't have any leaky struts etc, I have been planning to change struts proactively when I find time. (NOT Quick struts, have monroe OE Spectrum struts).
I understand I have to do them in pairs.
Which one takes more time? Fronts or rears?
And I am guessing alignment won't be way off if I first say do the front set then weeks later the rear?
Replace rear hatch struts? Mine don't raise the hatch all the way up and sometimes hit my head so would like to replace struts.
View 11 RepliesMy rear glass hatch won't stay up. I think it need new struts. How to replace them? I can't seem to see the location of the struts.
View 2 RepliesHow to get the struts off the rear window of a 2002 excursion?
View 14 RepliesJust bought a mk4 gti 1.8 20v and theres a loud knocking noise coming from the rear and it feels like the back end isn't attached ! Is this a common fault ? And what should i be investigating and fixing b4 the bk end does come off !!?
View 1 RepliesI have 2007 Camry CE, 4 cyl, 102,500 miles. The rubber boots on both front and rear struts can be easily lifted with a screw driver to reveal the shiny shaft. Strut seems be pass the 'fast brake' test (no bounciness). There is oily residue on the strut body. Is that normal? If replacement is needed, should I go with Monroe or other brand. I want the original Camry ride.
Brake pads seem to have 3/16"-1/4" thickness left. All equipment is original.
So I finally installed my brand new coils in yesterday. I took it for a test drive and noticed a noise coming from the rear struts. It sounds as if the spring is wobbling around, almost like a clicking sound. When I first installed them I installed them without the rear perch, then when I heard the noise I thought it was because I didn't install the perch so I ended up taking my wheels off and installing the perch back in. No luck. It's still making a clicking sound when I'm driving, constantly. I had my friend push down on the rear of the car several times while I look under it, I don't know what it could be.... I also cut my rear bump stop in half. Could that be the issue? I have about 10 threads left on the rear perch before I max out.. The spring is compressed half way. Once again, These coils are brand new.
