Honda - Cr-v :: 2002 - Preparing A Vehicle To Sit Undriven For A While
May 18, 2011
I'm going out of town by bus and won't be returning until October. I'm concerned about letting my 2002 Honda CR-V sit for that long period of time without being driven and in the weather. I was told I need to fill my gas tank up so it won't rot, change the oil, don't put it on jack stands since it's bad for the suspension, and maybe buy a car cover. Is there anything else I need to do?

I'll be traveling this summer and will leave my 1995 Ford Taurus in my home state. Aside from disconnecting the battery, is there anything I can/should do before I leave so that the car will be drive able when I get back? (I did this a few summers ago and did nothing to prepare; when I got back, the car did start, but a few days later it died and I had burned out the alternator. Would like to avoid doing that again!

Have taken my 2004 CRV to the dealer 5 times over the last 6 months because I smell gas after turning the vehicle off. I mostly smell it when I get out of the car. The smell is coming from the gas tank area, but there are no visible leaks.
The dealer has smoked it, replaced the gas cap, replaced a fuel sensor, done pressure tests which were negative, and now is recommending replacing the entire fuel sending system, which I believe is the fuel pump and something else. I consulted a mechanic friend who take off the cover under the back seat which exposes the top of the tank and we put soapy water around the top of the tank where the fuel pump attaches while pumping air into the sealed off tank.
We were hoping that it might just be a bad gasket but there were no visible air bubbles. Now another mechanic is suggesting that I have a small leak in the seams of my gas tank and wants to drop the tank to see if there are signs of leakage. Seems like I keep spending more and more money on guesses.? I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of this car as I get headaches after driving for more than 20 minutes, not to mention the headache I have from having this problem drag on...

2011 Honda CRV. Put in a new air filter. Due to cramped quarters, had to disconnect a wire (coupling) to lid of air filter housing, remove hose clamp to remove housing so I could put in filter. Engine off, etc. Put it all back. Started up, now I have a check engine light (picture of engine plus vehicle stabilization alert). Will all this go away after a few restarts or does it have to be actively cleared?

I have a 2010 CRV with approximately 10k miles. This is my wife's car primarily.
Recently I have started to hear a sound from the rear right of the vehicle. Its a 'thud' each time teh vehicle passes over a pothole. I'm guessing it has something to do with the strut/strut mount.
I bought the car new last year so its under the 3yr/36kmile warranty. Is thsi covered under the warrantly?

My 2004 Odyssey climate control is blowing hot air even when I set the controls to max cold. Not just outside type hot air but the heater is on to max hot air. Pushing the a/c off button does nothing. When I turn the a/c system on I can hear the motor's rpm drop and I see the fan turn on. I think the system is still still getting cold because when I stop I can see condensation dripping under the vehicle. How to fix this or to at least get it to blow cold all the time?

I have a 2002 Alero 2.2 4 cyl and the gauges, head lamps in auto position, windows, fan, and radio will not come on. When car is off and key turned to acc. radio will work. It still drives ok, doesnt seem to be draining the batt but the check engine light came on. I took it to autozone and they COULD NOT read the codes and didn't know why.
The speedometer, temp and fuel gauges haven't worked for months now and the rest of the accessories not turning on is a recent issue.
The only thing that comes on regularly is the backlight for the dashboard and now the check engine light. I had the ignition switch replaced right before the speedometer, fuel and temp gauges stopped working. I noticed tapping the key sometimes gets the radio, windows, and fan working but not the dashboard gauges. Don't want to replace the ignition switch again since it doesn't seem to do anything for the dashboard gauges.

I've recently been having battery drain issues with my 2002 Chevy Astro. After taking it to a local garage I was informed that nothing was wrong with it other than it needing a new battery. They put a new battery in and within two weeks of the van not being used the battery was dead. I did a bit of research online and learned that something may be drawing power while the van is off, and that I could do a fuse test with a multimeter. After performing this test I narrowed down the drain to being related to the following fuse:
19 Instrument Panel Radio: ATC(Main Feed), 2000 Series (Standby)
The only things that seem to be on this circuit are the radio, cd player and some elements of the instrument panel (e.g. odomoeter). I'd like to fix this problem but I'm sort of stuck as to what I should start testing from here. Today I disconnected the radio and cd player and tried performing the multimeter test again, with the fuse back in place. It appeared that there was still excess power being used with the vehicle off.

2002 Camry 4 cly was running great. All the sudden looses power, stalls (won't idle), engine light came on, when I held gas pedal at 1000 rpm engine rev's 1000 - 1400 rpm. Autozone trouble codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0171, P0420. Car barely runs, getting worse quickly. I also smelled hot metal when I pulled into driveway, exhaust tail pipe was superhot.

2002 LeSabre Dies suddenly (usually or always at idle -- not 100% sure) and always restarts immediately. Not the fuel system - fuel pressure good, pump replaced. Already replaced the Idle air control (IAC) valve. Recent tune-up. No DTC codes. Should I suspect the crank sensor, or would that throw a trouble code? What else could cause this -- PCM?

I have a 2002 4Runner that has recently developed a vibration at freeway speeds. I purchased new tires about two months before the vibration started. I have been back to the place where I bought my tires and the assure me that they are balanced.
I have been dealing with this problem for the past couple of months and have been getting nowhere. When I took my 4Runner into the dealership to get the lower ball joint replaced I spoke with the service folks about the vibration problem and all I got in response was "we've never heard of that before".

Is there a programming sequence that will keep my 2002 Camry from locking all doors when the vehicle is put in drive/reverse. I realize this is considered a safety feature but I prefer to lock them myself.

My 2002 Honda Accord (225000 miles) would not start this morning. It rained all night so I am going to remove plugs, wires, and cap to dry out. The car was not choking or stalling yesterday, so I don't think it is a fuel issue i.e., fuel pump.

My daughter's 2002 Honda Civic is overheating unless you drive over 60 mph. The heater is also not working - it blows air but the air is cold. It is full of coolant - we checked. The thermostat was replaced about 2 months ago.

I accidentally left my sons 2002 Honda Accord EX engine running overnight for about 15 hours. He drove the car and said most of the gas was gone and that the car was jerking while he was driving. Will the car be fine?

After the CRV has been idle overnight, when I turn the key to start the car, NO sound comes from the starter -- not a pop, not a clunk, not a whir, not a wheeze. All the interior electricals work fine (radio, dashboard lights, etc.). If I repeat the process 3 or 4 (or 5 of 6) times with increasing panic, I sometimes hear a fizzing sound (sort of like frying bacon) for half a second before the starter engages and the engine turns over. Naturally, I can't reproduce the problem at the dealer, who rightly doesn't want to commit to any repairs (especially after the dealership dropped a screw into the engine at 35K miles and had to buy us a new motor!). Other CRV owners appear to have encountered this problem, but the on-line forums are sickeningly devoid of answers. Tracing the problem from ignition switch to starter, what is the likelihood that this is a defective relay in the ignition switch? A defective relay somewhere else? A defective starter solenoid? Or just a worn out starter? How to make the diagnosis?

I have been driving my 2002 Honda Civic for about 6 years now. For the past 4 years its been all highway, driving 50+miles a day. I have just moved to a small town where its all town driving.
When I would get off the highway before, I would notice a burning type smell, but no smoke and no signs of overheating. Once I moved here where the winter has been significantly colder than what my car is used to, and I am doing all in town driving, I have noticed smoke coming from my engine, but my temperature gauge shows all is well. I have always done regular oil changes etc on the car. I will be making a long trip this summer back home and i am not sure if I should be worried about the car overheating. Should I try and find someone to investigate this problem further or is this just some engine gunk burning as the car gets hot?
