Have a CR-V noise coming from rear tire area I think. It sounds like a growling or low pitched grinding. Noticeable at 30-40 mph up hills. I have changed trans fluid and rear diff fluid in the last 15K miles.

It's the lock actuator for the rear hatch.
Sometimes it works.
Sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes it makes that horrible plastic grinding noise.
Got a tire rotation a two weeks ago on my new 2013 Kia Forte (purchased in August 2012).Now, I have a very high pitched whistling noise coming from the rear tire area. The sound happens at all speeds. The sound is the worse at very slow speeds; the sound is also very bad at very slow speeds when I touch the brakes and turn the wheel.I looked at back tires from outside the car (not underneath the car). The mechanical set-up of back tires look very different than that of the front tires. The back tires have metal parts touching each other while the front tires do not.
View 3 RepliesI've been noticing some (a lot) of oil on the inside of my rear tire. I went ahead and drained my diff fluid to check if the was any left and there was but I replaced it and cleaned the tire (hoping I just drove through something) and it's back again already. I don't know much about axles, what seal usually holds stuff back in there? What parts should I expect to replace other than the seal and any brake components effected? I noticed a creak/crunch coming from that area but seems to crunch with suspension articulation so not sure if it's related but I have the feeling it is.
View 14 RepliesLately I have noticed an intermittent strong overheating odor coming from the rear passenger tire area of my 1999 Sonata. I was also beginning to notice the car vibrating or riding unevenly. I took it in to Les Schwab to have the brakes checked and was told they were fine with over 50% on all four brakes. I did have the front tires replaced as they were worn and wearing unevenly and was told this is what was more than likely causing the vibrating. That was a couple of weeks ago and I had not noticed any odor coming from the wheel well until yesterday the minute I opened my car door after driving home from work there was the same strong toxic smelling odor coming from the same rear passenger wheel well, but not from anywhere else. I have only noticed this smell after driving home from work and there is a fairly steep hill I go down not too far from my home. Is this a brake issue or something else?
View 5 RepliesMy '98 Honda Civic hatch is making a rubbing or grinding type noise that seems to be coming from the right rear wheel. It only happens when I'm making a speedy left turn and is made worse when there's lots of weight in the back seat. My boyfriend who mostly knows what he's doing checked the wheel for play and any grinding of the wheel bearings and he thinks the bearings are fine. We also checked around the wheel for foreign objects and any obvious issues i.e. pieces of the car hanging off.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2003 Honda Civic coupe that is making a interesting noise. When making a hard left turn with some speed, an intermittant rubbing noise is coming from the rear right tire and wheel. I cannot duplicate that noise turng right at any speed.
One more fact, the right rear and left front tires lose 5-10 psi of air a week. They were filled yesterday, so they should be around 30 psi still (door sticker recommendation). New tires put on last summer by previous owner- not sure if they were losing air at that rate before the new treads or not.
I plan on buying a used wheels to replace current ones to hopefully remedy the losing air situation!
I have a 2001 Honda Civic, 4 door, 144K, original owner, 5 speed transmission with brand new tires and new brakes all around. Whenever going around a sharp curve, there is noise coming from the back, almost as if the tire is scraping the wheel well. The new tires are the same size as the OEM tires that came with the car brand new. My thought is perhaps work out shocks?

View 7 RepliesI hear a grinding noise from tire area when in motion and when stopping and happens only intermittently. I have taken my 06 chevy uplander to 2 auto repair shops and to a chevy dealership repair shop now and all three say they can't find anything wrong with it. shortly after, the noise happened again but now when it occurs the display screen reads... Service ABS system and service Traction system... when i turn the engine off and back on again the warning is no longer there unless the noise occurs then will read both again.

Just last week I noticed a resonant humming / growling sound coming from the engine - it's very "vocal"it only occurs around 2000 rpm, and is more pronounced when decelerating there's no apparent loss of power or fuel efficiency the sound occurs with or without the transmission engaged and seems to be worse after the car has heated up a bit
Cat converter? Intake manifold?
What is causing this strange noise. I have an old 1998 Subaru Impreza that runs well but has this mystery squeaking noise coming from the area near the front left of the car. It seems to happen most on cold, dry days, and I can hear it when the car shakes, but only when it is driving, never at rest. I can usually make the noise if I let up on the gas while still in gear, and it happens sometimes while going over bumps, but typically only if the bump only affects one side of the car. If I am accelerating quickly or braking, the noise usually doesn't happen. It also usually only happens when I am in gear and have the gas pedal pressed, but it can still happens on bumps even if the car is in neutral, the noise is usually much quieter if the car isn't in gear.
I can't tell if the noise is coming from inside or outside of the car, but it seems to be louder inside and I can't hear anything from outside when driving through a parking garage with my windows down.Now this noise first appeared a few days after I got my clutch plate, fly wheel and axles replaced several months ago but I haven't been able to find anything on my own and the shop said they didn't see anything that could be causing it.I have included a recording I took while driving, if you listen its the high pitched squeaking. So far the only thing I have done is checked the sway bar and bushings and those are all in good condition and covered in lube.
2008 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T... I am trying to figure out whats going on with my car for a few weeks now. I have a few things going on and I am not if they are related.
First off I am hearing a odd noise now and then from my engine area. Its so hard to explain, but its kind of like when a plastic bag gets stuck to your car, a fluttery higher pitched noise (and it lasts only a few seconds). It happens now on heavy acceleration (almost always), normal acceleration and even sometimes at start up. Its mostly random and started awhile back but I use to only hear the sound every couple weeks. Now its daily.
Related or not I also have noticed this really bad lag with heavier acceleration, after lagging it then down shifts VERY hard before taking off.
I have the most annoying high-pitched squeak/whine coming from my front left tire. For those who cant see the video, its making a high pitched, metal on metal noise... at all speeds... especially when making slight turns... my foot was not on the brake when the video was taken (coasting around the parking lot at around 10 mph)...

I took this video while I shake rear seat area.
So, when I was leaving work I started my car up and heard what sounds like a low grinding noise coming from the area where the serpentine belt is. Let the car idle and it remained.
Put the car in gear and drove off and the sound was still there. the sound gets louder as I increase my speed. It went away a couple of times when I was braking, then came back.
I stopped at the gas station and could still hear it. After getting gas, fired the car back up and heard nothing. When I drove off, the sound returned.
I got home and put it in park, leaving the car on, opened the hood and could still hear the noise. Pressed and held the gas a few times and the sound did get louder.
I am pretty sure it is coming from some rotating part, but no clue what part. What this could be?

When I turn off my 2013 3.6 I can hear a slight cooling fan noise coming from the right rear tire area. I opened the trunk to investigate where it might be coming from but it can't be heard from inside the trunk. The only place I can hear it is in the wheel well area. Any clue what this is?
View 4 RepliesMy front end has given out. Getting a crunching sound that sounds like it is coming from the tire/wheel well area. With an 06 which has only 39,000 miles and an extended warranty until 2016 the Dealer just replaced the Strut Mounts? Sounded good, did no good. I'm going back soon, but shouldn't they have replaced the shocks and springs too? It sounds like the tires are rubbing while going over bumps, with a tearing crunch. I have known every noise in my Sonata since it came off the boat from Alabama and the car only got better over time. Since this noise seemed to happen on both sides all at once, what can it be? I did hear some noises V33 had posted, but it didn't sound the same as this screeching crunching new noise?

View 1 RepliesSo I have an 06 mercury mountaineer it was making a rubbing noise from the rear left tire area so I replaced the bearing took the merc for a test drive and as soon as I applied pressure to the accelerator the TCS kicked off all power and it left like the brakes on the front left engaged (accompanied by some nasty grinding noises). I have taken it apart replaced the hub assembly and the cv axle, nothing looks to be out of place and everything is clean I cant think of anything else it could be..
