I have a 2002 Honda accord SE. It has about 194,850ish miles on her. The maintenance required light starts to flash when I turn on the car and then the light stops flashing after a bit. What it means?
I checked for any codes and there's nothing. My oil is a bit low, but not at the marker. My next due for an oil change says 195,300ish. I've never seen it flash before.
My "Maintenance Required" light on the dash is flashing 4-5-6 times when I start up the Prius every time, why?...
I went through all of my Maintenance menu items and most of them arent set to begin with, but the ones that ARE set, still have 4000+ miles til the next service...
My bride's 2013 v5 is flashing "Maintenance Required" at a little over 4600 miles. Way too early for the recommended 10K oil change (though we will probably do the first change at 5K)...

View 6 RepliesThe engine symbol (not the "Engine Maint. Reqd." light, but the actual image-of-an-engine light) has been coming on and going off for the past 3 months. The car has 76,000 miles and is in great condition overall. When the light comes on, there's no discernible change in the way the car rides or feels. Each time I've gotten close to taking it in for service, the light has gone off, so I've decided not to spend the money. Since the first time it came on back in December, I've put a bottle of fuel-injector cleaner in and there seems to be a correlation with the light going off again anywhere from 1 mile to 50 miles later.
View 2 RepliesMy 95 Honda accord 4 cy. vtech, will turn over but not will start, you can try unlimited times and it just cranks, but no fire or start.... UNLESS I wait about 30 seconds first. In this time what happens is, for 15 seconds the usual dash lights are on, including check engine light, at 16 seconds the D4 green transmission light starts to flash rapidly. At 30 seconds the main relay can be heard to finally click in, and the fuel pump whirs and primes the fuel system for 1.5 seconds and immediately the check engine light turns off, the D4 light turns off, and the fuel pump also stops whirring. AT this point, at any time from here on out, (until you turn the car off again) you can turn the key the rest of the way to start, and the engine cranks over and now immediately starts right up!
Sometimes all the above happens just as described, but the D4 transmission position light does not start to flash. Everything else happens the same way and timing and after 30 seconds the car will start. NOTES: a. The obd trouble codes do not flash any codes when the jumper is put in place to read the codes. b. I have removed and checked the main relay, looked ok, and just in case I re-soldered all connections on the main relay board. c.the car drives and shifts fine. d. The time frames are exactly the same every time. Electronically perfectly the same, like the computer finally decides, OK go ahead and work now. Or like the car is attempting by some programmed response to say that something is wrong and needs attention.
Maintenance Required Light just started blinking at start up... Blinks 8 times then stops. Looked up in manual. Will start blinking at start up at 4500 miles and then stay on after 5000 miles. Guess it's time to schedule the 1st trip to the service department.

- check brakes
- Rotate tires

The maintenance required light just started flashing on our Camry last night.
It just went to the dealer at 4,200 mi for an "early" oil change (I had wanted an early oil change done, and the the dealer said it wasn't required til 10,000 miles). So no new oil.
It's about 7 months old, and mostly driven on short trips - our other car is used for the long trips. Tires were rotated @ last service.
Does it actually want an oil change? I'd take it to the dealer, but their next appointment is 2 weeks out.
I have a 2002 Honda Accord SE Sedan. 119K miles. The transmission slips sometimes especially when I start after stopping at a red light. My mechanic recommended not to change the transmission fluid as the transmission can go down and might need a new transmission. He also told me that 2002 Honda Accords are known for this issue.
So my question: Is my mechanic right? Or should I go ahead and flush the transmission fluid and replace it?
Ok, so I had the IM replaced today in my 2010 III due to CEL illumination, will post error code and part # later. Prior to taking it in, my "Oil Maintenance Required" came on upon start up, so I had them do that while I was there getting the IM replaced. Then the service tech comes to me and says, "Your back brakes have 0 pads and you need new rotors, a front end alignment and possibly new tires."
I just bought this car, Toyota Certified, on December 12, 2013!
Bought my Camry with 45k miles on it and just got the maint req'd light at about 50k. I picked up oil and a filter but it looks different than any filter I've ever changed. It has no canister and comes with a plastic nozzle looking thing and 2 O-rings.

View 2 RepliesI am just out of the dealer service period (2 years, 25000m). I took my Prius -v (3) 2012 to my mechanic. He did the oil and filter change, but could not reset the Maint Reqd light. It seems it is different from the regular Prius. I looked on the forum, and tried the suggestions, but none worked. It was supposed to be (with odometer showing).
Turn the “POWER” switch to ON mode. The multi-information displays initial screen will be displayed for a few seconds. While the initial screen is being displayed, press the “TRIP” steering switch (→P. 186) 3 times, pressing and holding the switch on the third time. I tried doing this both with my foot on the break and off, but all I got was a reset trip.
Got 14 Prius V back from first maintenance today and noticed the mechanic forgot to reset the light. So I called my advisor and she told me what to do. Here is process for others to share:
1. Set odo/trip to Trip A
2. Turn off vehicle
3. Hold down mi/hr-km/hr button on dash
4. While holding down button, turn on vehicle to ON state (Press Power button TWICE, but DO NOT press brake pedal - you don't want engine to start)
5. Wait while Maint Req light flashes, then goes off completely - about 4 seconds.
6. Turn off vehicle.
I am going to forego the 25,000 maintenance and do the oil changes & such myself from here on out. How do I make the message go away?
