Honda - Accord :: 2001 - CEL Came On Showing Code P1457 For EVAP Leak / Failed Emissions Test
Jan 3, 2014
I own an '01 Honda Accord LX with the ULEV engine and 178k on it. My CEL light came on about 6 months ago. Ran the scanner and it showed a P1457 (EVAP Leak). Waited until now when my inspection was due and expected it to be caused by the EVAP shut valve as I read that's often the cause of the problem with this code. Mechanic said that it can't pass inspection because of the OBD fail but that the diagnostic scanner showed everything functioning properly, including my assumption about the faulty shut valve.
He reset the code and said to drive it the 50 miles for the system to ready itself and bring it back in. As I've reset the code several times over the 6 months to see if it would self correct, I'm pretty confident it will come back on. My questions are, is it possible I've done damage to the onboard computer by not addressing the underlying problem 6 months ago? Are there emissions problems that are not checked by the diagnostic tool that the mechanic should be looking for?

My 1992 Honda Accord failed the emission test today for a too high NOX reading. The applicable standard is 2.50 and my car's reading was 2.61. I've read that high NOX has something to do with a malfunctioning EGR valve. Will replacing the EGR valve guarantee that I pass the emissions test? I don't want to start throwing money at all kinds of parts.

Honda Civic, 2003, around 180k miles. Code P1457 is showing, no drive ability problems. Everything seems to point to the evap canister valve as a common problem. I crawl under next weekend and start replacing parts...

This began as a troubleshooting exercise for a P0442 code (2002 model) indicating a leak in the evap emissions system. Often caused by simple things like a loose/poorly sealing filler cap. Not this time
It's a neat design, tucked away up in the fender well. Even sports a very effective stone guard (plastic shield) which hides all that tubing from view. But the shield also traps all the road salt and mud and packs it into the crevices between the tubes where it stays from one winter till the next. Even a powerful car wash probably can't dislodge the caked on mess once solidified.

My Honda CRX, 1989 failed the NJ Inspections for very high Emissions. The engine has 200,000 miles. I had a lot of repairs done on it: new majorrnator, new oil pan cover, new engine gasket, new radiator, new axels. brakes, new alternator. catalytic converter, muffler. Unfortunately, now it failed for very high emissions. I added the Diesel and Car Cleaner, but did not work. what can I do to fix the car so it will pass the Emissions Test? what can be wrong with it, and will it cost me a lot of money. Is it worth trying to cure it or should I retire it, and sell it?I am on a very tight budget, and am depending on this car for my transportation.

Check light came on and I had the code read at AutoZone. There were 3 codes but I'm pretty sure 2 are old (the check light previously came on a couple of months ago and I had it checked, then went off on its own). My car seems to be driving fine.
The new one is P0455. Large EVAP leak. I'm hoping it is just my gas cap.
The other 2 (older) codes are P0456 (small leak) and P0113 (IAT error).

I have a 98 Honda Accord in pretty good shape even though it has 340,000 miles on it. For the past month I have intermittently been having the dash idiot light that shows all 4 doors and the trunk lid is open -- coming on. In addition, the "brake" light that is just to the right of the blue "high beam" dash light, also comes on and the past week the "battery" light comes on. It also seems like the headlights slightly dim and maybe even the blower motor slows down just little. It started out lasting less than a second and now last maybe 2 or 3 seconds. I took it by one of the Advanced Auto parts stores and they did a diagnose check on the alternator, starter and battery. Everything at that moment, checked out fine. Alternator checked out good during regular operation and under loaded condition. Almost everything on the car is original except timing belt.

I recently failed emission test for my 1999 V6 Passat. I replaced the cats., thermostat, O2 sensors (before cats), and the list goes on. Is there a reflash in the ECM that needs to be reset that only VW can do with their scanner?

About a month ago I had my SES light go on and I took it to the auto parts store and they said it was a small emissions leak. I am not sure of the code though. I took my car to the shop and they said that a sensor that had something to do with the exhaust was bad or unplugged.
My SES light came back on about about a week ago and I had it tested and it said the same thing. "Small emissions leak" This time I got the code and its P0442. The shop is closed today and tomarrow so what and where the sensor is located? Or if its the same thing?

My truck is a 91 sierra 2500 over 8600 gvw (8 lug) 5.7 4l80E. After my truck failed a Calif smog test I set about testing the different sensors that are attributed to the reason it failed (a few points high on HC's). All the smog equipment and sensors tested ok except for the 02.
I tested the one in the truck when it failed smog, it came out at 400 millivolts key on engine off as my Haynes manual and the Autozone website said it should, after running the truck for 10 minutes and running it at around 1200 RPM's for 2 min to get the O2 cycling it doesn't, best I have gotten was a slow rise of about 0.01 millivolt rise per second to about 0.590 MV where it seemed to level off, the problem is 2 seperate new sensors do the exact same thing, none cycle rapidly between 100-900 MV as the Haynes manual and the Autozone website say they should.
The 02 is pre-cat stock location, no changes to the exhaust since my last smog check. I don't even know if this is the reason I failed smog, it's just the only thing that didn't pass my testing. the truck does seem to be running a bit rich (per my ultra sensitive tailpipe sniff test).
I did do all the normal repairs after I failed the smog test, tune up, air filter, clean the TB run a can of cleaner through the gas tank, ETC, then I failed the re-test by 3 points worse. The truck does not run bad or blow a bunch of smoke, the truck is not throwing any codes.

I am new to a 2005 camry SE V6 3.3 lt, Today tested the security system by; locking the doors using the keyfob and waiting for 30 seconds for the system to arm itself then opening the door from inside the car. No alarm went off !!
The security Red LED on the dash works properly and shows no sign of malfunction. I am not sure how to start troubleshooting.

So I have had this code P0442 for a long time and I just kept clearing it. The attached picture (at an angle) shows the hole in the small line attached to the fuel neck filler exactly behind where the plastic wheel well cover touches it. Just ordered a new one from rockauto for about 65 shipped.

Got a CEL tonight while driving. Originally I was driving and the light came on saying that my gas cap was loose. I corrected the problem when I got home and tightened again. The light stayed on however. I ran a scan with the OBDII and it gave me a code for EVAP- Very Small Leak .
I was reading around and some people suggested the MAF. Which would make sense because I recently had all of that stuff off and gave the engine a deep cleaning while it was exposed. I just don't see how the MAF could relate to the code my car is pushing?

I've had a check engine light on in my 3.5 Pontiac G6 for awhile now. It's an emission code (can't remember what code but evap leak). The solenoid by canister was also tripping a code that disappeared after I changed it. However, the evap code still persists. Last night while changing my oil I noticed the intake air hose to the crankcase had broke at the case and wasn't connected. It's the hose that runs from the engine intake to the crankcase for the PCV system.
I am replacing the hose regardless, but my question is; would the intake hose for the PCV system being loose cause an evap leak code? I am thinking no but it'd be nice if it was that simple.

Car has about 75K miles. Son has the car out of town (again), at school. He reported CEL (SES?) light on; "what should I do?" Told him to have it checked. He has trusted mechanic nearby, so I told him to go there. They say they don't just read codes ("You can get Autozone to do that"); they do diagnosis.
Report: Code P0455 (gross evap leak). Did smoke test; nothing. "Did you maybe have it running when you filled gas tank?" (No.) They reset the CEL, and sent him on his way.
Should we be satisfied if CEL stays off? What else to try or to look for if same code comes back?
