My Service Engine Soon light came on in my 2005 explorer. I took it to Advance Auto Parts & they plugged it up to the reader and it said something about "coolant." The guy who did it could not tell me anymore, other than I needed to take it to a shop. What this could mean?
View 5 RepliesOK, so my "Service Engine Soon" light came on recently. I tried the gas cap tightening suggestion. It turned off. A few miles down the road it came on again. I had a recall/service schedule (2005 model) so waited until I took it in, however the light turned off (again) before I went in. They did a whole service and (I believe) diagnostic and nothing came up. That was about a month ago and suddenly the morning the light came on again. I have some repairs/maintenance scheduled for end of July (gasket value leak and the right side the axles). The car is driving fine, no difference in feel/sounds.

View 2 Replies2000 Ford ZX2 2.0 ....I've got approx. 79,350 miles on this car. I'm the original owner. The "Service Engine Soon" light came on. I took the the car to an Advanced Auto Parts store, they hooked up their handheld computer to the car and told me "it might be an oxygen sensor or poor fuel octane", he suggested adding an octane booster and see if the light stays off. I did that,but two days later it came back on, the idle seems a little ruff when stopped at a light.
View 5 RepliesI have a 1999 F-150 w/ 4.2 V6. and auto trans, truck has 219,000 miles on chassis but only 25,000 on engine and 10,000 on trans. I've been getting obd codes p0705 and p0715. I replaced the position sensor on outside of trans. but I continue to get the codes off and on again. I noticed that the O/D "OFF" light on the shift selector blinks simultaneously when the "service engine soon" light comes on. I've noticed that there is no low gear unless I have it in D from a dead stop, and not even when downshifting manually.

View 6 Replies2001 F150, 5.4L gas, 4wd, stock, 217k miles, auto trans. Bought it used about 4 years back.
Currently away from home base. Left Saturday for a 600+ mile trip. All fluid levels are good. Truck has been reliable. No major issues other than an alarm malfunction a while back which got sorted.
About 90 miles into the trip down the highway, the service engine light comes on. Hmm. At the next fuel stop I tanked up. Started and it was a bit rough the first few seconds and then settled. Seemed to have an engine noise I had not heard before.
Pulled over in the station and popped the hood. Oil good. Coolant fine. Power steering fine. Listening to it I could definitely hear an unusual sort of "ghost" like sound. Hard to describe. Sort of like a low "woooooo." It was low, but definitely there and not normal. Could be unrelated to the engine light. Pulling out of the station the sound varied and got louder with slight acceleration. Possibly beginning of an accessory bearing meltdown?
No acceleration or dying issues. Got back on the highway and kept on trucking for 600+ miles. No running issues. No shifting issues. Ghost noise not noticed at highway speeds.
The power steering pump is probably in need of replacement at this point with this mileage. It does drip slightly, but not a lot. It may be the original pump for all I know. Same with the water pump.
The alternator was replaced last year with a Bosch unit. I have never replaced the O2 sensors. Stock exhaust. Spark plugs were replaced a while back with Motorcraft platinums.
It is now Sunday night and I went out to listen for the sound, and it is not there anymore, but the service engine light is still on. First things to check with a truck that has 217k miles on it?
Was tempted to bring it to the dealer here, but it seems to be running ok in spite of the light coming on. So I may leave it until I get back home and check it more myself then. Can't do much here since I don't have my tools/service manuals etc with me.
OK, got the plugs changed out and still had a miss. Had the service engine light come on saying a miss on #2. Bought a generic COP at local parts store and seemed to cure problem. I'd like to replace all of them with OEM but I'm confused as to which COP to purchase. I've had websites say the DG-508 fits my car and then another say that DG-511 is the correct one. 2007 Mercury Mountaineer Premier 4.6. The original COP's have 3L3E-12A366-CA on them.

View 14 RepliesI have an 05 explorer with advance trac (which the sensor is bad for) and my abs light came on and my 4x4 light flashes. I read a lot about the tone rings and the speed sensors could be bad, but would they cause the truck to engage 4x4 when going slow and the 4x4 seems to be sticking/grinding. Something doesn't seem right and I'm not sure if its this sensor issue or if my transfer case is bad... We also just replaced a hub/bearing on the drivers front about 2 months ago.
View 3 RepliesLast year my car popped up with the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light. I am cheap so I went out and bought a code reader- code 1443 came up. Online I found this information: 1443-Evaporative Emission Control System - Vacuum System - Purge Control Solenoid or Purge Control Valve fault. I bought something from Ford for $81, erased the code and it came back on a week later. I just kept erasing it. It quit coming back on in November so I figured the bulb had burned out but the Light came on when I started the car. So I just ignored it. Now that the weather has warmed up again the light comes back on with the same code. Other question. Are there any modern cars that are as easy to work on as, say, a 68 Falcon? Or even a 74 Pinto? I don't expect real ease I just want to be able to stick my hand in the engine compartment with a blood sacrifice.

View 9 RepliesTwice now (and maybe a third time once I start my van again) we've had problems with the van chugging and then the service engine light blinking. Both times it happened in the past, we took it to a mechanic who said it needed a tune-up - new spark plugs, wires, etc. I'm curious as to why this keeps happening. Mileage is around 105K. It first happened last summer, second time was in December. Now it's March. What could cause this problem to repeat?

1999 F250 Super Duty. My service engine light came on while driving doing around 65 mph. Truck seems to be running normal, no loss of power or acceleration. It's a 5.4L with 104000.
