01 crown Victoria, ac was recharged but it doesn't blow cold or hot air. When it is turned on, my car would make a very loud vacuum noise, that's embarrassing. The rpms go up, and if I'm at a stop light I have to hold the brake or the car would take off.

View 10 RepliesWhenever I start my 99 passat a really loud vacuum noise is heard. along with the noise the engine idles higher than normal. when the noise goes away after a couple minutes it idles at the normal speed again... what the problem is?
View 3 RepliesA while ago, my Vic started making a strange noise when it idled. Sort of sounded like a water buffalo in heat. When you goosed the throttle, or drove it the noise went away, but came back at idle. It seemed to be coming from a hose that attached to the intake plenum, but it went underneath the back of the intake manifold. My mechanic was a bit baffled, so he called a friend at the local Ford dealership who called it the "Hooter" valve and told him how to get at it. The car is fixed, and no longer makes farm animals lovesick, but I still don't know what the thing is or what is does....
View 2 RepliesI had the wheel bearings replaced at my 5000 mile oil change. The noise is still there. Rotors warped, axle bearings, it gets louder when I turned to the right on the highway and gets quieter when I turn left (classic wheel bearing sound).
View 10 RepliesI drive a 1997 Saturn SL1, 295,000 miles. Great car. Good gas mileage, very, very low maintenance. I cleaned the engine about three years ago with an engine cleaner (Gunk?). When I turned on the engine it started to make a loud noise. The best way to describe it is a loud whining noise. It appears to be coming from the AC. When I turn on the AC the noise gets quieter (but it's still annoying). The noise does not appear to have affected the car's performance, but it is loud and annoying. What the problem is?
View 5 RepliesI started hearing loud fan like noise today. It stayed on for a bit after the car was turned off. I usually wouldn't mind lil bit of fan noise.. but this was horrific loud.. I'm guessing I just need to replace the fan.
View 11 RepliesI recently (~2 weeks ago) had the air conditioner's compressor replaced in my 2003 Subaru Outback. Now, when I turn it on, it makes several loud noises like what an elephant would sound like. As well as noises that sound like a bubble popping in the "bubble blast/bubble popper" smart phone games. Every time it makes one of these noises, it also chugs the vehicle a little bit. If I turn it off, then back on again and set it to the lowest fan setting, it eventually stops.
Of course when I called the place where I had the compressor replaced, and brought it back in to them, it did not do it for them. I'm just glad that it FINALLY did it today for my husband to hear. That way I don't have to hear about it being chalked up to "pregnancy brain imagination". It originally started happening only if I had the air conditioner already on when I turned the vehicle on. Now it has progressed to every time the air is turned on in general. What could be happening?
I Have a 2002 Trailblazer and when i turn on the rear A/C there is a loud clicking sound coming from the back of the truck. It is on the passenger side up by the interior light in the third row. If i turn off the Rear A/C or turn the knob and have both the overhead and the feet blow out it does not click.
View 3 RepliesOdd, relatively loud "whoosh" noise when they turn off the engine? It sounds pneumatic in nature, like a pump or servo of some sort sealing or depressurizing? I should note that I park in a garage, which may amplify it. Definitely more noticeable if you open the driver door or window then kill the ignition.
Second, I don't know if it's the cold, a bad batch of gas, or just normal but the motor seems to make a clack clack clack noise when stopped/at idle. It's not consistent and doesn't seem to affect drivability. I just hope it's not knock or slap, i.e., indicative of serious issues. Am I just being paranoid and overly sensitive?
So now that it is winter, I have started to use the heater in the car. It works fine for about 10 minutes until a loud high pitched noise starts. Sounds like something is grinding. Any clue what it is? Is so, how to fix it?

When AC is shut off , we hear this loud , screeching , grinding , wailing , scrunching, high pitched noise.
Not sure what to check? Should I apply a lube to the belt,pulley, etc ....
So the other day i opened the door and heard a super loud clunk noise come from the door and when I turned the car on and pulled hte window down it wouldn't go down all the way, only about 75% of the way so I assumed like BMW cars the window motor died but oddly it continued to go up and down just now 100% down.
Then 3 days later when I came to drive the car again the window went down to the 75% mark and now its jammed there with no movement even if I tried to lift the window up myself. Usually a broken motor allows this to happen but since it isn't budging I am wondering if its an electrical issue with the power window button more than the motor?
I say this because when i try to lower the passenger window from the driver side it works than out of no where on the 3rd time it wont move at all than 5 minutes later it will move or if it doesn't move I just go and pull the window down from the passenger side then I come to the driver side and try it and it works again than it'll stop again. So maybe its the power window control buttons on the drivers side that's failing?
I have an '02 Chevy Cavalier. It was making a screeching noise when I turn for a while and now has started making a loud rythmic clunking noise all the time when the car is turned on. It gets louder and softer but never goes away. It is coming from the engine area.
View 4 RepliesI own a 2006 GS300 for 4 years and I have about 90k miles on it. Just suddenly today when I went to go turn the car on, I hear a rapid loud clicking noise and the engine will not start. I've done some googling and one possible solution is to disconnect the battery to let the car reset and then connect it back. What the cause is? I've replaced the spark plugs a few months ago, but I didn't replace the battery.
View 13 RepliesI have a UK 2006 Mk2 CDX+ which I was driving last night - seemed ok, got to our driveway, turned the steering wheel fully left so I could manoeuvre the car into the driveway when I heard a loud "clunk" noise.
I thought I ran over a bottle or something so carried on reversing, when I got out I noticed the car was parked diagonally! Thought this is strange, I don't park like that and tried again, a bit better but still not parallel! I then noticed the steering wheel was hard to turn, a grinding like noise is heard when I turned so I decided I would need to take into the local in the morning.
Started the car today and drove out and got immediate sensation that steering was not connected to the wheels, the SW was off centre by miles and turning left/right was very sluggish. Lucky the garage is only down the road (but it's not Hyundai specialist) from me as I would not risk driving it down main roads in this condition. Guy at garage asked me to fully turn the SW left to right and we can see that the front of the car actually moved during the process. He is going to take it up on the lift to look underneath.
I have a 2002 Honda Accord coupe with 130K miles on it. A few days ago the AC started to make a loud roaring noise when it is turned on full blast. As you turn it down the noise gets quieter and when the fan is on low the roaring noise stops. Other than making this sound it is running fine and there are no other issues/noises coming from the car. What is causing this noise?
View 3 RepliesI've had this problem for a little while now, my 97' F150 V8 4.6L, has been running real loud and heavy. When it starts up it sounds like a race car. It finally shot me a code for P0171 - Bank 1 (passenger side) running too lean. From what I've read, this is most likely a vacuum leak but I don't know too much about it.
A couple of things I've noticed while driving it around:
1. If you are in the engine compartment while its running, you smell the excess gas on the passenger side of the truck.
2. The exhaust also smells really heavy
3. The loud and heavy running is mainly when accelerating, if I maintain a constant speed at for a little while it almost starts to run normal. Cruising down the highway its almost just as quiet as before the issue
4. Engine coolant heats up much more quickly, but doesn't get above operating temperature (read from tuner, never above 200 degrees)
In response to the problem I replaced both the O2 sensors closest to the engine and the PCV and elbow. No change. Have a fuel filter ready to install, but for some reason I don't think that is it either, as it would probably effect both bank 1 and 2.
Like I said I'm not too well versed in the vacuum system but if any of these symptoms stand out I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Recently I have been having a strong gas smell coming from my 1997 F150 Supercab 4.6L 2wd. It is not happening all of the time. I have also been hearing what sounds like a vacuum line leak. A loud shrill which varies with the engine rpm. This also does not happen all of the time.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2003 VW Jetta GLS 5 sp. Manual with the 2.0 Naturally aspirated 4 cyl engine. The car has approximately 147,000 miles. My MIL light has been on for some time now. I recently got my local mechanic to run diagnostics on it and he reported two error codes (411 and 420). To my understanding, 420 is due to the imminent failure of a catalytic converter, an issue which I have addressed by replacing Plugs, wires, distributor, and cat.
My real question is, I would like to know if a mysterious Vacuuming sound that comes from my car whenever I start it cold in the morning and persists for about 25 seconds, and then comes on and off intermittently, is related to the 411 code. My local mechanic told me that there is some kind of exhaust recirculation motor that may be going bad.
I love my VW and want to keep it running properly rather than give it up, so long as there is no serious problem that is impractical to fix.
