I drive a 1998 Ford Contour, the transmission goes into neutral on takeoff in drive, you can manually shift through the gears and get going, but not from drive.
View 1 RepliesI'm wondering what transmission fluid is the best to use for my 73' f100? Also wondering if changing the Fluid would stop the tranny from slipping. When i start her up reverse works great pops in every time quickly, but when i go into drive nothing happens like its in neutral?? after awhile of sitting and pressing on the gas a few times it pops in gear but very slowly and in stages.
View 1 RepliesSo I drive a 79' f-150 and my truck when I take left turns, start on a steeper incline or give it too much gas my automatic transmission tries to jump from drive to neutral. This only happens initially; if I'm on the free way and at a higher rate of speed it doesn't do this but it seems like when I give it any more than a little gas it tries to jump into neutral (it has once) it doesn't or hasn't really done this on right turns I don't know if that makes sense or not.
Why it may be doing this and if so what I might be able to do about it? I do have a book for my truck and I have done some small things but I don't really know a whole lot.
I've got a 2006 F250 6.0 5R110W 4wd 220,000 miles It started getting a slight delay going into reverse and tow light flashing last week. all else functioning perfect Got a pending code P0700 and P0741 I stopped at NAPA when I was leaving no reverse checked every thing all was normal no leaks and fluid good color drove perfect in drive I got back to the shop [10 miles] put truck in park it was like its still in drive same with neutral, in reverse it wants to creep forward.
View 1 RepliesMy 2011 Hatchback automatic has developed a whine in park, neutral and drive. ATF fluid level ok and changed by dealer every 25,000 miles. Seems to be coming from under the car. Could it be the transmission oil pump? If so, does it mean removing transmission to replace? I don't think it's the fuel pump. 62,000 miles.

I almost feel like when I'm stopped in Drive it's actually in neutral. I'm curious if being in Neutral at really long red lights would save gas?
1999 ford 4x4 ranger,auto trans and abs. My pick up would not move in either drive or reverse until i gave it a lot of gas. then after a loud clunk sound from underneath, it took off and drove normally. my mechanic said if the tranny is a quart low it will do that. i checked the fluid and it has too much fluid
View 4 RepliesI have a 1999 ranger 3.0 4x4 automatic the truck has a delay when put into drive sometimes it slips at take off unless I force it to downshift and stay in first and from second to third gear it shifts very hard at around 3500 rpm would an oil and filter change. I do not have the cash for a new trans and I can't afford a new truck. I love my little ranger...

Having trouble with a shutter upon take off in there drive train. It only happens when I am going straight. It does not do it when I am turning or anything. I just bought the truck used sat. It has around 18000 miles on it. I haven't had a chance to put a load on it yet to see if it does it then.
View 14 RepliesI am having a transmission problem. I have a 76 F100 with a 300 and a c4 tranny. When I take off it seems to be shifting out way to early. It goes in to 2nd gear at about 10mph and 3rd between 20-25mph. I do have a kickdown linkage hooked up but I have not messed with any adjustments. The is a vacuum line that runs to the rear of the transmission. Also sometimes when shifting in to 3rd it seems to go in to neutral before going in to gear.
View 1 RepliesI have a M5OD that I replaced the clutch in in my '99 150 4wd in December . Manual Tranny. Now when taking off in 1st gear the transmission seems to be sliding or shifting backwards, but only in first gear. Got under my truck and looked, can't find any identifying marks to where it might be moving or what is causing this. All frame mounts are tight and the bell housing is flush with the motor. Yes, i did do the clutch change myself in shop class.
View 1 RepliesPurchased my first used Super Duty 2011 F250 6.2. Love the truck. This is my 3rd ford truck. I get home from work, so the truck is warm. Sit for 20 min, then leave to take the kids to their games. After turning onto the street then accelerating power is lost for 1-2 seconds, then the truck continues to accelerate. If I let off the pedal, then the truck will slow down, if I hold the pedal position of push down it does nothing. This is going to drive me crazy. Not sure if this is a TCM reprogram issue? It only does this on the initial take off. I want to start playing with my new truck, but want to fix this bug first.

When I got the truck I noticed it would slam hard into reverse. Ever since it is taking longer to engage reverse gear and now I have to rev it to 1000 rpms for it to engage with a hard SLAM.
I also noticed that if I do a fast take off, there is a knocking sound coming from drive shaft/differential area (like knock knock knock knock knock then goes away). Then a slight vibration ending at around 30 kph (~20 MPH). There is also some oil leaking from the transmission. I added some mercon sp yesterday - it was a bit low.
My guess for the knocking and vibration is the center support bearings and U-joints. Transmission??? One thing I know I am going to be banging away at that shaft but the transmission problem really scares me.
I'm a new owner to my first 4x4 vehicle. My vehicle is a 2007 f150 xlt. Today while I was driving into work I had my vehicle in 4wd high. As I was going down hill I let off the gas and started braking. When all of a sudden my 4wd drive switched into neutral. I am wondering what could cause this to happen and whether it's an issue or not? It is snowing which was my purpose for being in 4wd.

It catches back up and idles fine but nearly dies when coming out of drive. Installed a new idle air control valve but no change.

View 1 RepliesI bought this truck with 60,000 miles and have had about 3 months. I don't drive it very much but when I do I have noticed that when it sets for 4-5 days or longer the transmission makes a weird noise as you take off and does does shift into gear as it does when I use it ever day. The problem goes away very quickly (not even a 1/4 mile driving) and everything is fine after that. By the way I took it to the ford dealer who did a complete 60,000 mile service on it that was suppose to include changing the transmission fluid and filters-could they have screwed something up (I did not notice this issue until after the 60,000 mile service?).
View 7 Repliesi have a c6 in an off-road truck that seems to work fine but when getting up in rpm it will just act like it hit neutral. won't go in any gear. doesn't make any noise or anything. pulled it back checked fluid and it was a touch low so i topped it off. tried again and it went in reverse and forward good. no hesitation or noise. drove about half mile and it acted just like it hit neutral again. loaded it up brought it home and drove it off the trailer and in a barn.
I have had some say to check the filter and gasket. i did change it before it was taken out to drive. Been doing a lot of reading and haven't found anything close to this. its a 4wd trans with 205 t case 460 motors.
