View 5 RepliesMy 1996 Ford F350 front end shakes like crazy when I turn right at speeds greater than 40 mph. It does not shake when turning left. To stop the shake I slow down past 25 mph and speed back up after I have straightened the truck out. What is going on?
View 1 RepliesProblem: 55-60+ mph hit a bump front end shakes violently. Slow down to 40 mph it stops. DOES NOT happen every time, and may only happen once a week, but when it does my whole front end feels like it will come loose.
Solutions to date that have not worked:
1. Rotate and balance tires. (tire shop)
2. New shocks. (me)
3. New steering stabilizer. (me)
4. Changed ball joint and bushing in track bar. (Dealership)
5. Check ball bearings and seem to be ok. (me)
6. Check tie rod ends and are ok. (Dealership)
The only other options people have given me:
1. Dual Steering Stabilizer. (Have had truck since Jan and hasn't done it in about 19,000 miles. Why would it need it now? Truck has 109,000 miles on it.)
2. New tires. (If it were the tires wouldn't it do it all the time? )
Have had the vehicle since 24k miles - currently at 43k and just started doing this in the past 5k miles. When cruise control is engaged, and we go over a bump (of decent size) the cruise disengages. Perhaps a bad connection with a sensor? I do not know the cruise system that well on this vehicle and would like to know where I should start looking.
View 1 RepliesI have a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo LSE, 110, 000 miles that shakes/vibrates, A LOT, when I go over the smallest bump on the road. I purchased new tires last winter and it ran smooth for about a month then back to shake/vibrate.
View 1 RepliesI drive an '04 Dodge Stratus with 100k+ miles. I drove over a speed bump in the parking lot where I work (10 mph or less), and the car suddenly died (coincidence?) Luckily I was able to coast into a parking spot before the wheel seized up. The "check engine light" and the "oil light" came on, which leads me to believe I didn't lose power. I turned the car off and was able to restart the engine. When I exited the car, I noticed a burning smell. I am going to check the oil level, but is there anything else that could be causing this? I don't want to be stranded on my way home from work tonight.
View 5 RepliesMy 2000 dodge ram 1500 Laramie Won't start, Here's what happened. The truck started just fine the day before, No problem. But when i went to start it today it continuously cranked and when releasing the key It shook as if it tried to start and started to smoke a bit from the engine. I popped the hood and looked around, Seeing smoke coming from the engine, there was also smoke Inside the air cleaner box. What this could be, And how to fix it? This is a big problem as I'm moving in two days!!
View 19 RepliesI feel an intermittent shaking for a few moments in my steering wheel of my 2006 Dakota at 40 MPH. Had transmission checked and flushed. New brakes on front end, and still shakes. If I disengage overdrive it stops.
View 2 RepliesI bought an avenger that runs a little rough and I am trying to figure out if I have a fuel and air problem or a broken motor mount. In neutral or any other gear the car does not shake. In drive it shakes horrendously. Watching the engine as the car is put in drive the engine moves towards you a about 3 or so inches. Now with throttling the car takes a while to accelerate even after I stomp it on the highway to merge. On home roads I can let off the gas and the car will sustain itself at 25 to 30 mph. 1st gear is not very responsive. All other gears seem to be ok with acceleration. I am trying to find a good starting point.
View 3 Replies2012 dodge caravan. Bought it used last year with 27k miles. Day after I bought it, it threw a misfire code. They said the spark plugs got wet when they washed the under carriage. Dried it out, cleared the code.
For the next month the car went from a slight shimmy during idle...progressed to strong shaking (its shakes, pauses, shakes...etc.) Finally another misfire code. Took it in and this is what the report says.
"Cylinder misfire on #4. Performed compression test found #4 cylinder compression at 100 PSI. All other cylinders at 150 PSI. Recommend to replace front cylinder head. Has burned exhaust valve seat. Replaced left cylinder head assembly."
About 2 months later check engine light comes on, car is over heating. Coolant bone dry. Replaced coolant, took it back in. They replaced the intake manifold?? Been slowly losing coolant. I have to replace it about every 2-3 months. I notice the car shakes worse when the coolant is low, with minimal shaking when coolant is replaced. Finally took it back in a few week ago when my husband got back from deployment. They said it was a loose bolt on the intake manifold causing the slow leak. They couldn't verify my complaint about the shaking.
Now, car still shaking. Its minimal on start up, gets worse the longer I idle. I can only feel the shaking while in idle. If I restart the car it goes back to minimal before progressing again. Took it back in. They verified the shaking, hooked it up to a computer, no codes or anything. Told me its normal. It CANT be normal, right? I neglected to check the coolant level before I took it back in. I left it with them saying they will look it over, but they don't think anything is wrong. This is exactly how it progressed when they ended up replacing the cylinder head. I have 1k miles left on the warranty, and am moving in 2 weeks 1500 miles away. I don't have time to wait for another code.
car shimmies on highway at 60 mph or higher. Can feel it in steering wheel. Could it be a wheel balance problem?
View 3 RepliesUnder load, the car shimmies back and forth. Left to right. But only under load. It will even do it in 5th gear at 1500 rpm. The problem goes away when foot off the gas, or in neutral.
Already did a drivers side axle, passenger side axle, and dog bone mount.
I removed the intake to inspect the transmission mount and this is what I found below. Should it be able to wiggle this much? I imagine the mount is original to the car. Which has 156,000 on it currently.
I have a 1994 Automatic Ford Crown Victoria with apx. 120,000 miles (the odometer stopped working about 20k miles ago, what can ya' do).
Recently it has started doing a subtle vibration/shake/shimmy when accelerating from (I believe) 1st to second gear at about 35 mph. It doesn't happen when decelerating, and i think it might happen the same way at around 65 mph...not always though. It isn't a rough vibration, but it lasts for about 3 seconds. it is definitely coming from the engine, it isn't the tires or brakes
I have a 2004 f 150 heritage 4.6 liter triton supercab long bed and the steering shimmies real bad. When sitting at a stop light you slightly turn the steering wheel and its like the wheel fires back the opposite way when turning at highway speeds you cant hold the wheel from shaking its scary...
View 4 RepliesHere's my question, my 2010 Honda Van, with 47,000 miles, shimmies when I apply the brakes at 60-65mph. No other time. When I apply the brakes at that speed (very gently, I might add), the van feels like the front end is bouncing around. It doesn't do this at any other speed.
View 5 RepliesI have a squeaky front end on my 2005. I have changed the front struts but it still squeaks when turning or when going over a bump.
View 5 RepliesI've just recently gotten an 06 passat 2.0t and had some questions. When I drive the car everything sounds fine until I hit a bump then I get this crunch noise from the front end. Crunch is the best way I can think to describe it because its not really a squeak. I'm new to the b6 but not dubs at all. I just had to part ways with my mk2 which I put alot of wrench time in on and I've done minor tinkering on my wifes mkv rabbit.
View 2 RepliesThe front end makes a squeak when you hit a bump. Not all bumps, but some bigger bumps will make a little squeak. The car is a 2012 passat se. Sitting on h&r sport springs, and stock shocks and struts. 35k miles.
View 7 RepliesI had my brakes done almost two weeks ago and last week I noticed a metallic sounding clunk front right (I think) when I went over a bump. It's hard to replicate but I've heard it a few times. On the weekend I reversed and heard that same clunk. When I went forward slowly, I could hear a sound that can only be described as a few screws in a rotating soda can. When I sped up, all sounds disappeared.
I took it to my tech yesterday on the way home. He found a bit of a loose fit between the new caliper and what it attaches to, which he fixed. However, the sound persists. Tech said all suspension components seem tight and normal.
My jeep cherokee would begin to bounce crazily when I went over a bump in road. I wouldn't stop until I slowed down....
View 7 RepliesI recently changed my shocks which lowered the front by half an inch. I have 19*8.5(et 30) wheels with 235/35 at the front. Since then my tires are rubbing the fenders whenever I hit a bump. I'm thinking of rolling up the front fenders.
