I have a misfire on 1 I recently changed intake and plenum gasket, changed plug, wire, injector, cap, rotor, compression check and pulled valve cover rockers moving good and I recently swapped injector wires on 1&3 only shows misfire on 1.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2001 Dodge Durango, I just changed the catalytic converter, the truck acts like it isn't getting any gas, when I drive it above 65 mph for 20 miles, but I can pull to the side of the road for a min or two and go again, it keeps doing this. I can drive it all day in town no problem. Comp. says misfire on 1,2,,&4.

View 9 RepliesI have my timing belt and oil pump replaced and after 2 days the car was misfiring. Had the throttle body clean and reprogramed and still the same issue. run all test and its ok. What the issue will be. I was told it can be the ICM but the mechanic says there is no way to test it.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to fix my friend's 03 Santa Fe 2.7L with 325K miles on it. Pulled the codes and he has misfire in #3, 6 and a random one. It doesn't do it all the time, and when it does do it he can sometimes shut it off and restart it and it will be fine.
What is the likely culprit causing the misfires and how to test it? He can't just throw parts at it.
my dad has a 2001 Passat and he recently had his check engine light come on. We had it checked by a guy who owns a tester (snap on) and it comes up with a misfire fault on cyl #2. Wire looks good, I didn't have tools with me so I couldn't take a plug out, but do you think it could be a bad spark plug? Bad coil? Car has 89K on it.

View 6 RepliesNew to the VW world but I am not out of my element for I am a Porsche guy. So I feel right at home. Last night I picked up a 2001 wolfy Jetta with a 1.8t on the cheap with a misfire on cylinder 4.
I have verified I have no spark on 4. I have confirmed the issue is not the spark plug, coil pack by swap and see method. My coil pack and plug work fine on another cylinder. I reset my cels and here are the new ones that pop up:
a 121 - gas pedal position sensor- doubt this would give me a no spark
a 304- Misfire on 4, (duh, like I needed to hear that)
a 030- bank one 02 -Doubt this would also give me a no spark condition)
In my testing:
I have good system voltage on the coil pack
I have good ground ohms
My signal wire is not shorted high or low
When I take V and ohm readings on the coil pack connection, either with the ign on or off they are all in line with the other sensors. So I don't think I have a wire issue.
The PO had the ECU replaced at a local dealer. I looked at the old ECU and it appears it had got wet at one point.
Im wondering if the same thing hasn't happened to the new one. however after they replaced the ECU they gave him the car back still broken. So it never ran even with the new ECU.
1 Where is the ECU?
2 What tells the ECU to fire the coil packs at the right time?
2002 Hyundai Santa Fe 2wd 2.7L 175,000 miles
Having misfire in #1 &4, new plugs, new wires, new coils, new cam and crank sensors, cleaned and tested fuel injectors, checked injector signal, checked timing belt.
Swapped around plugs, wires and injectors(keeping same firing order) and the # 1 & 4 will not fire. There is spark to the wires and plugs and gas thru injectors but no detonation.
With plenum and exhaust manifold removed (front only) visually checked valves. Installed new oxygen sensors while exhaust was out. Tested ecu fuses in black relay box in engine compartment.
Engine stars first time ,every time but only runs on 4 cylinders. Check engine light code reads no 4 cylinder misfire.
2001 elantra 167000 miles, started a hesitation when given gas and check engine light came on. After hesitation rpms go up it runs good. Code is # 2 cylinder misfire. I have changed plugs, ignition coil and ran seaform into vacuum line and tank. Still no change. Could that 1 injector be clogged.

About every 20k miles (120k miles on it now) I get a check engine light and upon diagnosis it's the 4th cylinder spark plug fouled out, every time. I change the spark plug, but the old ones are always identical in damage. The porcelain has cracked on the spark plug.
View 17 RepliesHave '01 SE. yesterday I got a misfire in cylinder 4 (code P0304) the service light blinked on and off 3 to 4 times than stayed solid. changed plugs and boots about 1 to 2 months ago, didn't change coils and they r not in the best shape but didn't have money to replace at time. So I replaced the coil for #4 and it still runs rough with code, plug has some ware but looks fine.

View 6 RepliesI just purchased a 2005 Santa Fe, 4WD, 2.7l..the engine has a miss...the code that came up was "misfire in #2 cylinder"..I checked the coil pack...and the wire harness just crumbled..so I replaced the coil pack...reset the code..and it was good for a couple of days...I got through inspection...today I put on the A/C..and the engine got rough..the check engine light came back on..same code..misfire in #2..I'm thinking the injector or what else could it be? plug? wire?

Drove to a Monro shop right way and diagnosis using their professional OBD reader, it turns out that the Cylinder 3 and Cylinder 6 are misfiring according to the OBD scan result.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2004 Santa Fe with the 3.5. Today I started it and the check engine light came on. It was not on before this. (We had a lot of wind and rain from the storm but nothing major.) And seems to be running fine. I went to the auto parts store and they ran a diagnostic and the Code P0306 came up #6 cylinder misfire. They said probably Spark plug, wire or coil for #6, then went to look up code in computer and did not have my truck so they went with Kia or Domestic, which gave different possibilities for a code P0306.
They had me buy some fuel injector cleaner as injector was on the list. The light is still on so I guess the cleaner was not the magic bullet. I spoke to a lady at another auto parts store who is a wiz when it comes to cars and has been around them and fixing them a really long time. She says the Code P0306 is Spark Plug, wire, coil #6. She has a 4cyl Hyundai car not truck and she had the code for her #4 misfire in the past and she started her repair cheapest first, Plugs, wires her code was still there she then changed the coil and that did the trick for her.
I on the other hand can't do this stuff myself. Can't afford the dealer anymore or to have a shop do a tune up AND coil if I don't need all new plugs and wires just a coil as they will charge a lot to do a lot all. And it may not need it or even be any of those things. I also suspect the dealer and shops will want to still hook up their computers to do an costly diagnostic because the light is on, even though I know the parts store already came up with a code P0306 twice. Spoke to the dealer on the phone and he already basically said they would want to do that first for $100 plus the cost of repair.
I brought the truck new. It now has 91,500 miles on it and the dealer has already done two tuneups on it in that time, Plugs and wires. I hear it probably shouldn't have even needed these tuneups in this amount of millage? So the last one was probably about 2 years ago and a few thousand miles maybe a guess 10,000-20,000 miles ago. Do you think a plug and wire would be bad already in that few miles?
I got a check engine light. I went to Auto zone to get it read & they came up with a P0303 - Cylinder 3 misfire. Since I bought the vehicle a couple of months ago, I don't know when the plugs were last changed, so I decided to change them. However . . .
Is there a secret to getting the plug boots & wires out of the hole and off the plug without wrecking the wires?
I have a 2002 Elantra with 123k on it. It has been having issues with poor acceleration, rough idle, surging, and the car just overall shakes sometimes when driving. The check engine light started flashing on and off periodically today, so I coded and it and it gave me P0303, which is a cylinder 3 misfire. I checked the spark plugs, and the cylinder 3 spark plug was pretty bad, so I went ahead and replaced all 4. The wires were in mint condition, so no issues there. I also put fuel injector cleaner in just for good measure. When I went to test the car, startup and acceleration/reverse were better, but the other symptoms still persist. What I should check next???

No problems for for the first two months and then it started to misfire when at idle. Check Engine Light came on. Scanned and got a random multiple misfire code. I then changed the plugs and wires. Had to repair the threads for cylinder two. Did all that and it kind of but not really solved the problem. A few weeks later got another check engine light. Cylinder 3 misfire. Changed ignition coil. No better. Shortly thereafter I checked again whilst at work and read misfire on 3 and now 2. Currently replacing the intake manifold o-rings and cleaning out intake.
View 6 RepliesI have an 01 5.4 Triton with engine light on I put it on the scanner and it read miss fire on cylinder 6 and 1 I changed the cops and plugs boots and spring erased the codes but the check light is back on and scanner is say miss fire on same two cylinders u can hear it in the exhaust u can smell gas when sitting at an idle around 40 MPH has a slight engine shake goes away when u accelerate I am not sure what else to do some one told me to check for vac leaks and fuel pressure.
