Discovery - Landrover :: 2001 - Swishing Noise Like Water In Dash
Nov 5, 2011
I have a 2001 landrover Discovery II. I hear water in the dash and it's making a swishing noise. I've done a pressure test and there aren't any leaks.

View 4 Replies1998 discovery. Replaced fuel pump, crank shaft sensor, battery is good, had tune -up. Driving on highway and car just loses engine power, still have radio, lights, etc. Pull over and start it right back up. Drive about 15 minutes more and it happens again. Starts again. Then it does it again, but now won't start. Clicking sound in dash on passenger side. I leave it sit for 2 days. Starts right up, then rpms start revving then stops and dies. I have had every diagnostic known run, no codes coming up. I have had local mechanic keep it for days to drive it. He is also at a loss. I am REALLY tired of replacing random parts to no avail. Not to mention the $$ I have spent.
View 7 RepliesI have no water inside the car or leaking atleast that I can find. But when im parking the car, and navigating into my spot; or on an incline or decline or come to a stop i hear swishing coming from the back of the car, like water in a bath tub. Would think its the gas tank but that seems odd, as i never heard that noise in any of my other dubs.. Heard this noise or think maybe water is trapped somewhere. I am really not diggin the fact that my dealer is gonna take the car apart.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2014 Toyota Avalon limited and noticed that when you're parked you can notice a sound like water swishing around when your AC is on? This happens intermittently and I was wondering if it was normal but with the radio off in the car just idling after driving and the air condition on it makes this weird water swishing sound.

View 1 RepliesI have 2004 land rover discovery, and i hear a single ticking noise on top. I open valve covers, and i was thinking bad lifter. I can see nothing really broken, but i found one of the push rods bent. I inspected all of them, and i got new lifters and push rods only for one side. I put it together, runs fine, but half an hour after, the noise came back again.
View 7 RepliesThere is water sound under dash. I read about clogged drain so I tried sticking up a thin rod from drain line and gets stopped after some length. Should I force it up (push, hit harder) or will that break something? Is there a angle bend?
I did not get a water leak on carpet yet but the sound is getting more so more water collecting? What should I do next?
A few days ago, my 2002 Land Rover Discovery ran out of gas. I've never run out of gas before and when I called AAA and found out that it was just a gas problem my relief outweighed any embarrassment I had about the situation. The AAA guy and I filled the car up and poof- I was on my way..... Since then, the check engine light has come on and although the car runs great when it gets going, it's the getting going part that has become tricky. When I turn the key to start the car, it makes a clank clank chug sound. To get it going, I have to step on the gas and turn the key at the same time. If I do that, the car runs as normal and everything is fine.
I read the reviews for mechanics and have an appointment set. Is it possible that because the car was out of gas, that something else got burned up or junk got into the engine? How a car works but I'm imagining a empty tank that is supposed to feed into something and if nothing is there couldn't residue in the tank get sucked into the thing that it is supposed to feed?
I bought a new clutch master cylinder for my 1960 Land Rover. I have swapped these in and out and rebuilt or replaced them many times over the years. This is the first time I've seen one fail this way, and it is brand new out of the box. In my opinion, the seal at the back of the cylinder that is supposed to close off the reservoir from the inside of the cylinder, well, isn't. So, it is pushing fluid up into the reservoir instead of down through the lines. Have a look at a this video...... [URL] ....
View 4 RepliesI have a 2001 6.8l v10 and have nothing but problems. now i got a knocking noise and the oil has water in it. i have no clue what is wrong and on start up it blows white smoke till its warm i have looked at the coolant lvls and they have not changed. the oil pressure is fine while driving but at idle and stop lights and stop signs it drops and the light comes on. i have not had a check engine light yet? what could be wrong? i have blown plugs 5 time 3 coils and 2 head replacements. I hope its just old oil or bad oil i have no clue it is due for an oil change but would just oil oil make all this happen. I also am seeing oil coming form the intake on the throttle body but the oil breathers are right there too.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2001 explorer sport 2wd. My problems are that when I put the driver or passenger window all the up it makes a noise under the dash then i let go of the button then the driver window goes down halfway. when i drive at night i can see a dim light behind the turn signals blinking even if I don't have the lights on. also when i have the lights on i cant put the window up if its down, i have to turn off the lights to put the windows up.
View 4 RepliesOn my 1999 Chevy Silverado Z71, a gurgling water sound is present everytime I accelerate. Are there any other Chevy owners that have had this same problem? If so, how was it resolved?
View 14 RepliesThere has been on/off heavy rain in northern nj the past week, and i noticed two nights ago that when i am turning it sounds like i have a waterfall in front of the dash. if i am making a right i hear water running towards the left and vice versa. I already searched and found one article pertaining to a "sloshing". the problem: it didnt have a solution.
View 6 RepliesI have a rushing water sound (i.e. air in the cooling system) coming from under the dash (I'm sure its the heater core) every time I slow and corner, or accelerate from a stop.
When I open the radiator when its cold, it's low. I pour in about 3-4 ounces to fill it. When I squeeze the heater hoses with the cap off, I get bubbles, and have to add a bit more. This seems to solve it for a little while, but only until the car is warm enough that the thermostat opens up. Then... air bubbles rushing through again.
The engine never overheats, and the heater works perfectly. The overflow is within the normal area, and never seems to go up or down. Otherwise I might suspect a small leak in my head gasket or something.
I have tried to "burp" the system multiple times. I'm not sure I'm doing it right, but then again it's not that hard to do, right? Anyway.... no dice, I still get the noise.
I've got a 2006 with about 108k on it. I've noticed in the last month (or two) an odd sloshing of water that occurs BEHIND THE DASH when the car is first turned on and then appears to go away when warmed up. About a mile from my house this morning, I noticed the sound again when taking a right turn at a stop sign. This concerns me.
Here's what I've done:
1) Fluids are fine in the car. Checked them nothing low
2) no codes have been logged in my car.
3) I've researched this site and thought clogged evaporator ac drain tube so I tried clearing it.
I fired up the compressor, got underneath the car and proceeded to blast small shots of air up the tube. Nothing happened. No water coming out. Btw, there has not been any water drainage inside the car on either the driver or passenger side.
What could possibly be leaking water on my drivers side floorboard below my dash? I could understand if it was on the passenger side but driver?

View 1 RepliesNoticed a water sloshing sound coming from under the dash on initial start up when the ice engine comes on? I found a few things from searching, but nothing really conclusive. I didn't think much of it at first. Like maybe water was just coming up into the heater core or something. It doesn't do it all the time, but often enough that I'm starting to wonder if I should get it checked out.
View 15 RepliesMy 2005 Neon has had a leaking problem for quite some time. It rains...a lot! After a decent rainfall, when I start the car and the first couple times I accelerate, there is an audible hissing sound, and then the water drips in from underneath the dash on the passenger side. The leak is getting progressively worse, and I'm concerned the interior carpets will get moldy. I recently brought the car in for it's 60K checkup, and all is good. The only thing they could find leaking are the seals on the passenger door. Unfortunately, these seals aren't made anymore, and the cost to purchase them is quite expensive, and may or may not fix the leaking issue.
View 1 RepliesI am hearing a water flow sound under the right side of the dash when I turn corners or stop. It started when the radiator cracked. I have replaced the radiator and water pump. I have filled the radiator with the front of the SUV up and the engine running. Also tried jacking the rear of the SUV up. I have flushed the heater core. And re connected the hoses bleed air at the top of the hoses from the heater core, the return from the water pump to the radiator, and at the radiator to the water pump. Yesterday I pulled the dash out and found the heater core to be more center of the dash behind the climate control. The sound seems to be coming from more right behind the glove box. Any suggestions before I reassemble the dash. I have removed and cleaned the lower half of the ac coil/condenser box. There was no fluid in it and the drain line was not plugged.
View 17 RepliesI have an 08 Accent hatchback, no sunroof. I am having water soaking the passenger floor board and getting into the heater fan. If I park on a side hill it actually drips out of the bottom of the fan motor, and you can hear it being sprayed inside it when going around a corner. Checked the windshield - seal is good, took off the cowling under it and everything was dry - including the filter for the fresh air, so it doesn't appear to be coming down through there. I even poured about 8 gallons of water down the windshield and into the run-off channel at the bottom of the windshield and nothing seemed to get into the fan or leak into car, however, by the time I drove it home 4 hours later, it was in the fan again. Is there some other way to for it to getting to the fan? It's not coming from the door side, as it is usually dry on that side when it first starts getting wet, but rather it stars from the left of the passenger foot well.
