My 98 honda civic (automatic) makes a rattle sound from the front of the car when it shifts (accelerating) it doesn't seem to cause any problems but I would like to know if it's a problem and should get it checked out?

View 4 Replies,My '98 Honda Civic EX (manual 5-speed) is currently at 200,000 miles and makes a gargling/metallic rattling noise when I accelerate from low RPMs or whenever I'm climbing a hill. The noise sounds as if loose change is rattling around somewhere in the engine. I started noticing this a few years ago, when it was very slight and it only happened in second gear as I climbed a steep hill.
Over time, it started happening in third and fourth gear, and now it is in all gears when climbing a hill or when accelerating quickly on level ground. I also notice a lack of power when this noise is occurring. In the past, if I let off the accelerator just a little bit, or if I greatly increased on the gas, the noise would disappear. Now, increasing on the gas makes the sound worse.
I own a 2007 Honda Civic. For the last several months, the car starts making a strange mechanical whining sound when turned on. The sound grows louder when accelerating or going in higher rpms. It also seems to get a little quieter when I turn on the air conditioning. But the soubd never goes away. Car otherwise runs perfectly fine and never fails to start. Took it to two different honda dealerships to have it looked at. One said it had something to do with the a/c, the other said the alternator might be the alternator. I tested the alternator with a voltmeter and it seems to be working just fine. However, when you open the hood, the sound seems to be coming from the alternator area.
View 7 RepliesWhen I push down (to test the suspension) on the front left part of my car, it depresses and comes up. The car stabilizes (stops shaking) nearly instantly. However, when I press it down, it makes a squeaky sound. Sort of a short lived, high pitch sound. The sound comes from the area where the struts/coil springs are located. I drive a 1998 Honda Civic DX 2-door.
View 2 RepliesStarting about 100 miles ago I began getting a knocking sound from my left front wheel, which was not very noticeable at first, but now is. There is one knock with each rotation of the wheel that can be felt a little bit through the steering wheel. I suspect either the wheel bearings or a CV joint. But one thing confuses me--when under heavy acceleration or while braking, the sound & feeling almost completely disappear. I would not have guessed to get that behaviour from either of the 2 problems I suspect. Do one of these problems usually exhibit this kind of behaviour?

Newly purchased used car has a knock emanating from the left front axle area. It's a rotational thumping/knocking sound that occurs about every 360 degrees of the tire rotation and only in forward and backward full-lock left turns. The car also has a small vibration/wobble in the left front. It's been narrowed down to the CV half axle outer bearing. What is puzzling is left front knocking from the outer CV joint is usually associated with full-lock right turns (and vice-versa) However, the left front knocking/thumping only happens as stated above (full-lock left turns).
Recent front end parts replaced:
1) Left front hub assembly and bearing
2) Inner and outer tie rods on both left and right sides
3) Front left caliper
4) New front brake pads on both left and right sides
5) Automatic transmission 3 x 3 drain and fill + Lubegard red
My girlfriend's 2002 Honda Civic. Whenever she and I make a turn in it, a clunking sound is heard and felt on the front passenger side in the area of the floorboard, and it seems to come from an area between the seat and the wheel well and seems to be getting slowly but surely/progressively worse/more noticeable as time passes. I checked underneath the car earlier today, and there aren't any observable leaks to report anywhere.
View 4 RepliesI have an issue with my 98 honda civic lx, with 197000 mils. Recently I had my Check engine light on. I ignored it for a day. The next day started my car and in the middle of the road it stopped moving, meaning in spite of accelerating it doesn't move. So I stopped at the shoulder, turned off the engine. After a while I started again, the car moved but later on it stopped moving when I was accelerating. The Engine did not turn off during the stall. Couple of weeks back the car was shaking on the front side when I was driving, it felt like the car was about to stop as if it was short of fuel.I changed the spark plug 15000 miles back. Water pump and timing belt was changed 25000 miles back.Car has a highway mileage of 32 mpg.
View 4 Repliesmy brand new honda was recently involved in a really bad accident. It was in the shop for almost 2 months and had issues everywhere because I was t-boned. I just got it back a few weeks ago and recently it started to make a humming or ringing sound as i accelerate and start to slow down. You can even feel a slight vibration on my gas pedal and its making me very concerned since it was completely quiet prior to the accident. Thoughts? I would probably take it back to the shop that fixed it considering this would be their issue since they fixed it improperly and the length it took to fix was ridiculous.

View 2 RepliesMy Civic started to make high pitch noise when turning right or left, and also when accelerating. It makes more noise when I keep the wheels turning but ceases the noise when I let the handle go and go straight. When accelerating, it ceases the noise as it reaches 30 mph or so. It has got 93000 miles on it. It started the noise about 10 months ago and I feel like it increased the noise over the time. I don't drive everyday and I try to drive my wife's Prius when I drive since it has better gas milage. But this noise is quite annoying and wonder what it is.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2010 Honda Civic with about 67,000 kms. There's a mechanical squealing noise that's started over the last week when I accelerate and turn. It's coming from all 4 wheel areas. It only seems to disappear when I brake. Although if I run/accelerate the car for longer than 5 mins, it disappears as well. Additionally, there's a stretching/groaning noise from the tire area when I reverse. I'm thinking it's probably shock or suspension related.
View 3 RepliesI have an 04Honda Civic manual transmission that suddenly started making an ugly groaning sound whenever i accelerate, apply the brakes, or turn. It sounds like a metal-on-metal noise like something is loose or cracked. It even happens if I turn the steering wheel when the car is stationary. I tried to listen to where it's coming from, but all I can tell is that it's somewhere in the front suspension.
Mechanic said he didn't see anything wrong on the front suspension, but recommended replacing rear control arms.
We have a 2005 honda civic hybrid; there is a squealing noise coming from front passenger side, when braking, when accelerating, decelerating, but not while driving at speeds of 30 mph, straight. Also when backing up, turning wheels. It's going to the mechanic on monday for regular maintenance, 100K miles, etc.
View 3 RepliesMy 2012 Honda Civic, with 71000 miles, is showing obvious signs of ball joint problems - a rattle at speeds over 50mph, and LOTS of noise when I go over a bump. I had a quick oil change yesterday, then immediately noticed the problem. Brought it back to the manager of the shop, who looked at it and couldn't find a problem (naturally). He said that the car would pass inspection with flying colors.
Is this a coincidence? Could I have worn ball joints on a car that's 2.5 years old? What could these people have possibly done to cause this problem? Could it be struts? The winter has created frost heaves which turned my street into a third-world road, and the car was involved in an accident 1.5 years ago when some lady ran a red light on me.
Replaced clutch master cylinder last week. Now when I accelerate it revs the RPM's and finally catches after about 5-10 seconds. Is this related to the previous repair? They are saying needing new clutch. What to do?

View 1 RepliesSo for the last week my Civic has been making a low, rumbling sound (almost like an overly powerful bass system) and vibrating whenever the car is idling. The noise is most pronounced when the car is started but continues when I am driving, but only when I take my foot off of the gas. Whenever I accelerate, the noise stops. Also, the noise is very faint from outside of the car, but very pronounced from inside. What could be causing this?
View 2 Replies05' Civic HX 5 speed with 167K. I picked up the car two years ago with 134K on the OD, and the only service records were regular oil changes.
Did: Timing belt; Valve job; Brake job. Both dealer and tire shop have gone over it / safety checked it twice. About 10K miles ago it developed a racket (rotational noise, as if something was coming apart.) above 1,800RPM. "Can hear from a block away" in 1st gear, to a lesser extent in 2nd, etc (no racket revving, only in gear). CV joints, bearings, anything belt driven, has been checked out.
Figured it was the transmission, but it shifts perfectly - and I've drained the oil twice, perfectly clear, and no shavings on the magnet. I know the clutch is original (doesn't slip, don't want to spend $700 if I don't have to). The car, other then the noise, runs as if it's new, and averages 34MPG, so I'd like to keep it!
Lately my car makes a loud squeak on reverse and only on reverse. It does so WHETHER I'M BRAKING OR NOT. At first it was happening selectively, but the last few days it happened every time I reversed. Now, the squeak started happening right after I took the car in for AC repair. The relay and a bad wire to the compressor were replaced. Do the squeak might be related to that? Car is a Honda Civic EX 2006.
