So due to the icy road conditions, I swerved into a curb hitting the front passenger wheel going about 15-20 km/hr. Had a wheel alignment done and they said there are no bent parts other than a dent on the rim itself, but I'm hearing this strange rattling/drilling sound every time I decelerate. It sounds like I may have damaged the wheel bearing or CV joint?

05' Civic HX 5 speed with 167K. I picked up the car two years ago with 134K on the OD, and the only service records were regular oil changes.
Did: Timing belt; Valve job; Brake job. Both dealer and tire shop have gone over it / safety checked it twice. About 10K miles ago it developed a racket (rotational noise, as if something was coming apart.) above 1,800RPM. "Can hear from a block away" in 1st gear, to a lesser extent in 2nd, etc (no racket revving, only in gear). CV joints, bearings, anything belt driven, has been checked out.
Figured it was the transmission, but it shifts perfectly - and I've drained the oil twice, perfectly clear, and no shavings on the magnet. I know the clutch is original (doesn't slip, don't want to spend $700 if I don't have to). The car, other then the noise, runs as if it's new, and averages 34MPG, so I'd like to keep it!
So I swapped out the PCV valve while changing the oil in my '02 civic and upon driving I noticed a faint rattling/buzzing sound. I only notice it at idle, whether because it goes away when I accelerate or because engine noise drowns it out. I grabbed my stethoscope and to my dismay found it to be the PCV. It's not loud, but loud enough that I noticed it was out of the ordinary.
Now, I've read conflicting things all over the internet. Some people saying its perfectly normal operation, while others saying its a sign of a defective product. The old PCV was pretty gnarly, but did just barely passed the shake test.
,My '98 Honda Civic EX (manual 5-speed) is currently at 200,000 miles and makes a gargling/metallic rattling noise when I accelerate from low RPMs or whenever I'm climbing a hill. The noise sounds as if loose change is rattling around somewhere in the engine. I started noticing this a few years ago, when it was very slight and it only happened in second gear as I climbed a steep hill.
Over time, it started happening in third and fourth gear, and now it is in all gears when climbing a hill or when accelerating quickly on level ground. I also notice a lack of power when this noise is occurring. In the past, if I let off the accelerator just a little bit, or if I greatly increased on the gas, the noise would disappear. Now, increasing on the gas makes the sound worse.
My 97 Civic DX Coupe has 74,400 miles. In recent months it has started making a grumbling kind of muted creaking sound when I make any hard turn, does so on any 90 degree turn unless I take it slow and gradual. It has never made this sound before so I wondering what is up.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2000 Honda Civic, manual transmission with 91,000 miles. I have a rattle coming from the engine, that was there before and after the timing belt was changed. I just notice it more now after the timing belt was changed. The rattle sounds like a marble or nutin a metal container(cylinder?). I don't hear it with just revving the engine, only when the car is in gear...put a load on the engine. It increases in speed as the engine speed increases and is harder to hear or it disappears as the load on the engine decreases. It is NOT tiny like aa heat shield. Could this have something to do with the pistons in the engine, the motor mounts, or something else?
View 5 Replies2002 Honda Civic EX Manual ... My Honda makes this rattling noise. I noticed it only a few times on the freeway a few weeks ago, but it went away after breaking. But now it happens a lot more often, but only most of the time.
I can't figure out what the common denominator is among the times it does rattle. Any speed, any gear, any rpm, uphill, downhill, flat, a/c on or off. I just replaced the clutch (it needed it, unrelated problem) but it started just before replacing the clutch, and now is worse. Up until today, it would completely stop when I hit the breaks, or even just tapped them (though resume when I lifted my foot). Then today, that doesn't have the same effect...it takes a lot more pressure/time to make it stop. It seems to be coming from the front passenger side, but sometimes sounds like it could be coming from the passenger back.
We have a 2002 Honda Civic EX. Recently we have heard this rattling coming from the engine. It is the same rattling no matter what speed we are at or gear we are in. When we turn the air conditioning ON the rattling stops. What do you suppose the issue is?
View 5 RepliesNoticed a rattling sound from the front end of the car when hitting certain types of bumps/rough road. Turns out my right front stabilizer bar needs replacing. Dealer has ordered part, and it's covered under warranty. However, I thought stabilizer bars were supposed to be replaced in pairs. Do I need to ask them to replace both the front right and left, or is just replacing the right ok?
View 9 RepliesAnyway, so a little over a year ago I had to have my head gasket replaced and when I picked it up they told me I had a cracked motor mount. After having just spent an exorbitant amount and being poor, I decided to wait to fix that. It seemed to run fine so I didn't worry about it too much. Sometime last year I started hearing this rattling noise when I pushed the gas. It would start and then die off. But it didn't do it all the time.
Fast forward to the past month or so and I've started to get vibration and shaking, usually between 60-70 mph. Thinking it was my tires, I took it in to have them balanced. It rode smooth after that for a few days and came back. The rattling noise has also become more prominent and is pretty constant now. I took it back to the shop and they told me it was more than likely the motor mount. So I went ahead and had that fixed today.
When I picked it up it seemed fine. The noise seemed gone and it rode smooth. But as I drove home and got on the interstate everything came back and sounds/feels just as bad as before. What gives???
I drive a 1998 Civic hatchback. Last night while I was driving I needed some gas. I pulled into a station and the only gas they had available was 93 (highest octane). I only ever fill up with 87 or whatever the lowest grade is, so I put 2 gallons in to get me to my destination and the opportunity to find another gas station. Shortly after, I was back on the highway and the engine starts making a loud rattling pinging noise when I step on the gas. I normally might have a low rattle or ping that I've never been able to get rid of, but never loud like this.
Then a few things happened– smoke starts coming out the exhaust, the check engine light comes on, and the car starts to overheat. Seems like it was pretty much all at once, although it was in that order that I noticed... I rolled the windows down and turn the heat on high, but the air coming through the system wasn't at all hot. I got off the highway and as I downshifted, the engine started to smoke a little. I get to the end of the off-ramp and the engine dies. It wouldn't start back up right away but I managed to start it a couple of times (between it dying) to get it to coast into a parking lot. Under the hood, there was coolant everywhere it seemed, but I couldn't see anything else apparently wrong– hoses, etc.
In the end I had AAA tow it home. So, what happened and what I'm looking at now in terms of repairs? I will need to have it towed again to a mechanic if it is something I can't figure out myself.
Whenever I make a sharp (think turning into driveway) turn left or right, my car makes a knocking noise. Not a clicking, but I recreated the noise by knocking 2 plastic cups together. 2012 Honda Civic LX.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2010 Honda Civic with about 67,000 kms. There's a mechanical squealing noise that's started over the last week when I accelerate and turn. It's coming from all 4 wheel areas. It only seems to disappear when I brake. Although if I run/accelerate the car for longer than 5 mins, it disappears as well. Additionally, there's a stretching/groaning noise from the tire area when I reverse. I'm thinking it's probably shock or suspension related.

For last 5 months or so, I have to keep full tank of gas. If the tank is half, the car starts stalling, and the first sign of it is when I am taking a sharp right turn on highway exit. It's like the engine dies for a second or two and comes back when the right turn is over. If I keep driving and the tanks get lower, it will happen even without the right turn. I just fill up the tank and the problem is fixed.
Check engine light is on sometimes (but not always) with these codes P0171B and P0497, but I am not sure it's related.
There is sometime also a short delay in starting the car, irrelevant if the tank is full, (a second or two of extra cranking) but that might be a different issue too.
Ok my car is not starting. It is not turning over when you turn the key and push in the clutch. I can here a relay click under the drivers side dash. I can push start it and it runs great, sometimes it will start and run fine but it is a frequent problem now. What could be causing me these problems. 1991 Honda Civic DX ....
View 10 RepliesI have a 1999 honda civic that has had an issue with randomly shutting off lately. It always happens within a minute of me turning the car on and I usually have to wait several minutes before the car will crank again. When it does the engine shuts off and all lights immediately go off. Once I finally do get the car to crank its hit or miss if it will stay running, but if it makes it through the first minute or so its usually golden. Its like it has to have a perfect connection or something or it wont stay on. The only suggestion I've had from someone is possibly the ignition being bad.
View 12 RepliesI have an 04Honda Civic manual transmission that suddenly started making an ugly groaning sound whenever i accelerate, apply the brakes, or turn. It sounds like a metal-on-metal noise like something is loose or cracked. It even happens if I turn the steering wheel when the car is stationary. I tried to listen to where it's coming from, but all I can tell is that it's somewhere in the front suspension.
Mechanic said he didn't see anything wrong on the front suspension, but recommended replacing rear control arms.
I have a 2001 Honda civic. Great car, so far. I need to replace the catalytic converter, however I just passed smog shortly prior to the cc going out so I've been putting it off (bad, I know).
When I drive in the lower gears, 1st and 2nd, the car makes a much louder than normal ggggrrrrrrr sound. Don't know quite how to describe it. Especially when turning corners.
Do I need a new transmission? Does my needing to replace the catalytic converter have anything to do with this?
I have a 2012 Honda Civic, with only 4500 miles on it. When slowing and turning i have a hesitation. It does this about 6 out of 10 times. When pulling into traffic, this can be scary. I have asked the dealer about said problem, but told it's just because its new and will get better when i get some miles on it. No way do i believe that. Not sure where to turn. I might add this is an automatic transmission.
View 7 Repliesok I have a 07 civic with 80k, which I bought used, it seems when i turn the wheel more so to the left at slow speeds like parking or pulling out etc I hear a popping and or clicking noise from the front end it doesnt always happen, but happens enough I took it to my dealer to have everthing checked before a rd trip they told me the boots and all are fine but the joins could be binding, but that its safe to drive and doesnt need to be replaced.
