My wife reported that her 2010 Civic LX sedan sometimes made a noise in the front, like cutting sheet metal with an electric saw. I have not heard it myself during several times I drove it. What could be the possible causes?
I plan to drive it some more until I hear the noise. What specific info should I note for mechanic to diagnose the problem correctly?
Noticed this morning that my Honda Civic is making a metallic scraping noise while moving -- happens when not braking. Appears to be coming from the left front. I noticed it at very low speeds. It isn't exactly the "wah-wah-wah" grinding sound that changes a little in pitch as the wheel rotates that I'd expect from a bearing. I've been through a bunch of Youtube videos from people diagnosing various wheel- and brake-related problems and haven't found one that matches mine yet.

View 7 RepliesI have a 2010 Honda Civic (automatic transmission) that has about 38K miles on it. For months now, it has been making a very gentle metallic rattling noise after going over bumps and at highway speeds on our "rougher" roads (crappy PA highways). I took it to a Honda dealer about 10K miles ago, and had them inspect the heat shields and take it for a road test, but they found nothing and said the heat shields were fine. I was content to turn up the radio a bit and ignore it (sometimes Hondas just rattle). Today, however, I turned a corner on a residential street and suddenly heard a metallic shrieking noise coming from the right front of the car that didn't go away until the car came to a full stop.
I turned the car off and took it for a quick spin around the parking lot I was in, and it continued to make the noise when the car was moving... forward and reverse. It got louder the faster the car went. Disturbed, I called a tow truck and had it taken to the Honda dealer, who will examine it tomorrow when they reopen. The last time my brakes were checked, which was only a few months ago, I was told that the front brakes were 8s and the rear brakes were at 4, so I don't think the pads are worn down yet.
I don't know if the soft metallic rattle and this noise are related, but they're coming from the same area of the car. It is getting inspected and having an oil change tomorrow as well, since both are due very soon. I know I will find out tomorrow, but I was hoping someone could put my mind at ease and settle my curiousity as to what this might be. There was nothing hanging down from the bottom of the car and making contact with the road, and there are no maintenance lights or other lights lit on the dash. It has been a well-behaved car so far, but it only has 38K miles on it.
I have a 2008 Honda Civic Ex that I bought as a Honda certified used car about 6 months ago. It has 23000 miles.
2 days ago, the gas gauge got to where there were no bars left - telling me it has basically zero gas. (I don't usually do this, but was looking for a cheaper gas station...)
The car continued to drive as I was looking for gas and began to make this metallic grinding noise from the front of the car. I was able to pull into a station after driving like this for about 1/4-1/2 mile and filled up.
Then, the noise stopped after driving the car for about 15 seconds.I haven't had a problem since. Is there any permanent damage?From all the of the other posts I have read - it seems that the noise should not have occured. It should have shut off if there was no gas. Looking for answers...
At the same time - as I filled up the gas tank, and I knew I was very close to empty - the tank only took 11 gallons of gas. According to the owner's manual the car should take 13.2 gallons. What is wrong or what am I missing here?
2002 Honda Civic EX Manual ... My Honda makes this rattling noise. I noticed it only a few times on the freeway a few weeks ago, but it went away after breaking. But now it happens a lot more often, but only most of the time.
I can't figure out what the common denominator is among the times it does rattle. Any speed, any gear, any rpm, uphill, downhill, flat, a/c on or off. I just replaced the clutch (it needed it, unrelated problem) but it started just before replacing the clutch, and now is worse. Up until today, it would completely stop when I hit the breaks, or even just tapped them (though resume when I lifted my foot). Then today, that doesn't have the same effect...it takes a lot more pressure/time to make it stop. It seems to be coming from the front passenger side, but sometimes sounds like it could be coming from the passenger back.
My cousin has a 2011 honda civic ex A/T and when he lets off the gas his transmission makes a quick knock noise. It's not too loud but it's very noticeable. Shifts fine and everything. Also it sounds like he is forcing his transmission from park to reverse. We hear a lot of noises not so much grinding noises but a lot of movement I guess you could say. But it engages quick. Is this normal or should we take it in? I have had multiple people tell me it's all normal. But it doesn't sound normal to me.
View 4 RepliesSo I noticed this when I had my windows down and the music off (or very low) for the past few weeks (at this point). About 3800 miles on the car, and maybe once or twice during a drive It is an occasional clank/ metallic noise that sounds like it is coming from either the left or right side depending on which tire hits the bump. But I can go over any number of bumps before and after with no noise at all, and it's not like I'm hearing it on just large bumps/ potholes. I've never heard it on any speed bumps.
I have a feeling it is when only one tire drops down a bit from a small bump, but that is only a feeling, and it's on small bumps. I tried looking up other threads on here for suspension noise, but mostly only finding things dating back to 2011 or so with brake caliper pins, possibly motor mount but nothing really recent.
I am in the process of replacing the front hub seals so my ESOF works again. I tested both front hubs with a mityvac and neither one of them holds any vacuum at all. All the lines are good, and the pump and solenoid seem to be working fine.
I have the driver's side apart and I have a couple of questions.
What's a good source for the vacuum seal? I've checked rockauto, riff raff, and diesel o-rings. Diesel o-rings has it, but the description says it's only for 2003+ Excursions so I didn't order it.
There is no yellow o-ring anywhere on the hub. I assume that someone forgot to put this o-ring back in and this is why I don't have ESOF? I guess what I really want to know is that there isn't some 2000-specific thing where there's no o-ring, right?
After I got the hub off, I spun it around on my workbench and it doesn't sound good at all. It makes a slight metallic grinding noise about 1/2 way around. I assume this isn't normal? AFAIK these are all original parts - but the missing o-ring means to me that someone already had it apart.
There was a lot of water intrusion and rusty colored grease but nothing was dry, the needle bearings were intact and the shaft isn't scored at all where the bearing rides. I'm hoping new seals and good cleaning and it should be good as new. And then it's off to the next side.
I leased a 2010 Honda Civic (non-hybrid) in March of 2010. I had to replace the front brake pads at 8K miles, 18.5K miles and now again at 27K miles. Each time, I get a screeching, grinding noise from the driver-side front wheel. At 8K, I went to a dealership (not the one where I got the car) who replaced them for free "as a courtesy" (apparently, brake pads aren't covered under the warranty). At 18.5K, I went to the dealership where I leased the car from; they said that it didn't look like the other dealer had actually performed the work (yet somehow, the screeching noise went away). They charged me $250 to replace the brake pads and buff the rotors. Now, at 27K, the screeching noise has returned. The dealership has warrantied their prior work and isn't charging me. They claim that there is nothing wrong with the braking system. When I asked them why the pads keep going after 9K miles, they said they don't know, and maybe its the way I brake. I do 80+% highway driving and while I do encounter stop and go traffic on a daily basis, I don't think this is normal.

View 1 RepliesHonda civic ex 2001 w/ 202k miles.... 1 month ago was driving on highway, the a/c started going, then I began losing power, temp went hot, pulled over steaming hood, wouldn't take much water.
Mechanic did: replace thermostat, therm gasket, new radiator fan temp switch, pressure test.
Ran fine for 2 weeks, then heat began to rise again & overheated. Each time it overheated the top small hose on radiator popped off(like a 1/2 in. hose). Back to mechanic: did pressure test, did a full cooling system test all were great...Only thing he found was a small radiator crack....thought it just took a week to lose coolant. Replaced radiator/ecu temp sending unit/refill and pressure test.
1 week later, temp spikes to hot, so I bring it back....he tested pressure/flow no leaks again...he can't figure it out.One note: for about the past 3months, right after starting, I would come to my first or second stop, then accelerate and hear a squeal that lasts like 5 seconds or so...this happened intermittently for about 3 months, and is still happening(I can drive very short distances now). A friend thought the issue was the belt that controlled the a/c and 2 other things
I have a 99 Honda Civic. A few months ago, while driving in my neighborhood at about 25 mph, the car just stalled out and died. Within a minute, it started up again and was fine. My mechanic has checked it out a few times and found nothing. It's been totally fine and just did it again today. I leave tomorrow for a trip and am a little concerned about taking it on the road.
View 4 Repliesok I have a 07 civic with 80k, which I bought used, it seems when i turn the wheel more so to the left at slow speeds like parking or pulling out etc I hear a popping and or clicking noise from the front end it doesnt always happen, but happens enough I took it to my dealer to have everthing checked before a rd trip they told me the boots and all are fine but the joins could be binding, but that its safe to drive and doesnt need to be replaced.

View 3 RepliesThis has been a great car, until it developed this weird thing. It will occasionally stall while being driven. no warning, the motor just dies. It is a manual trans. and sometimes will restart if I downshift. I have become adept at slamming on the hazard lights and pulling over.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2006 Honda Civic Sedan with 214,000 miles on it. I have a starter that is less than a year old, a new battery and the battery cables have just been cleaned and inspected. My batter and alternator tested fine. Occasionally (always in the morning) my car won't start. There is no noise, cranking or clicking. All the lights are operational with no dimming. However, today I put the car in neutral and it started right up (after not starting for three tries.)
View 9 RepliesI have a 1998 Honda Civic (160,000 mi) that occasionally wont start. It usually happens when I have been to the store or something, when I come back out and try to start the car, it just cranks and cranks with no starting. The first time I left the car for a few hours because I though the engine might be hot and if it cooled down it would start. After leaving it for a few hours, it started right back up, no problem.
More recently when this happens, I let it sit for 10 to 15 min trying to start it every once in a while and eventually it does start back up but it really smells of fuel (I think it flooded). Also, on the freeway I can feel it misfire a little bit but to me, it's not a huge problem. Also, occasionally when at a light or something it will rev up and down until I start driving again. A few months ago, my friend replace the distributor, wire and plugs and timing belt but the problem still persisted.
I have a 2010 Honda Civic with about 67,000 kms. There's a mechanical squealing noise that's started over the last week when I accelerate and turn. It's coming from all 4 wheel areas. It only seems to disappear when I brake. Although if I run/accelerate the car for longer than 5 mins, it disappears as well. Additionally, there's a stretching/groaning noise from the tire area when I reverse. I'm thinking it's probably shock or suspension related.
View 3 RepliesMy Honda has 61000 miles on it, it's an automatic . Just had oil change done at 59000, told was good for 5000 mil. The last few days I noticed a trrrr (kind of like a playing card in bike spokes but louder) noise coming from the front of the car, it lasts for a few seconds then stops. It happens mostly when it is in drive but not moving. Stops if I put in any other gear, doesn't happen while I have foot on gas. I did hear it very faintly today while coasting up to a red light otherwise it's always happened while in drive with foot on break. First time it happened was a few seconds after I stopped at a red light. Second time it happened was after the car was parked for an hour. When I got back in and threw it in drive it did it.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2003 Honda Civic Si with a clicking noise that appears to be emanating from the front passenger side. It appears to be "rotational" in nature. This noise is very similar to that one might hear when a CV joint is going out but it's heard when going forward. My mechanic (whom I trust) has been unable to fix this problem. Over the course of approximately 4 months they've:
1. Repacked the wheel bearings on both front wheels.
2. Replaced the strut mount
3. Replaced the carrier bearing with a used one.
4. Verified that all brakes are tight and working properly, and 5. Replaced the axle 4 times with both new and rebuilt versions.
Some things I've noticed:
1. The noise might not appear until the car is warmed up a bit, that is, driven 10 to 20 miles
2. It goes away when I apply the brakes but comes back immediately.
3. It occurs even when the engine is turned off and I'm coasting down a slight slope. My mechanic is unsure how to proceed and the noise is driving me crazy.
