I just replaced the firewall actuator valve for the hubs, and went to try out the 4 wheel drive. The hubs engage and lock to the axle shaft, the transfer case engages and locks to the front driveline, but the front differential isn't doing anything. Is there an actuator for the front or did something break inside?
I have a slight leak at the front differential and drive shaft. It is nothing major and I don't even notice a oil slick under the truck when it sits for a longer period of time.

(The light on the dash just flashes) could it be destroyed internally? how do i tell if the Sylenoid is working? this is my second toyota i bought it a month ago and will be spending big bucks on this unit (parts for repairs, labor not included already exceeding 2,000) on parts alone. i have tried backing up, low 4x4 and the light just flashes! could some moron have blown it up before i bought it? are they very strong? better yet, if it is broken.
Left headlight 2000 S-10 damaged in accident. The connectors to the low and high beam bulbs survived and they and the wires back to the fuse box look fine. Upon plugging in a new left assembly, the right side low and high no longer works. The relay was changed and the left assembly unplugged and back to the same point where every light on the vehicle front and back are working except the left low and high. The only things not hooked up are the left fender horn and the window washer motor. Those were unplugged to be able to get to the left light wires to check them out. Is it ok to use a test light with the negative battery on one wire and the other tried with all 4 sockets under the headlight relay to see if the volts are there to be sent to the left light?

The transfer case engages and disengages but the front wheels seem to stay engaged with the front differential.
There are no manual hubs and I really don't think it should ALWAYS be engaged like that.
What is the probable issue and ALSO can manual hubs be installed on this truck?
Someone mentioned vacuum engagement? but I didn't see any vacuum hoses near the spindles. Didn't see any wires either other than ABS...
I just noticed the 4 wheel drive on my 2000 Chevy S10 doesn't seem to be engaging. The traction doesn't get any better turning it on and the other day I got stuck on a hill and the back wheels weren't spinning. What I can check or look at to fix it?

View 3 Replies2002 1500 4WD 126K miles. A/C not working, compressor does not engage when A/C is switched on. Is there an interlock if the refrigerant level is too low to keep the compressor from engaging? Original owner, A/C has never been recharged. Is recharging my best first step.

View 11 RepliesI have a 2000 chevy malibu that has not had a/c the past 2 summers. I'm trying to diagnose what the problem could be. When I start the car and then turn on the a/c by pressing the button in the car nothing seems to happen.
When I went to look at the compressor motor I could see that the clutch is not engage and the middle of the compressor is not turning. What to check without taking to a mechanic??
Last night just before parking my Phaeton in my garage I've took a look and saw a small amount of oil on the floor. It was light and judging by the oil location and color it could be from the front differential. I had this on my A8 , it wasn't difficult to fix, my mechanic changed the main seal. As far as I know the A8 quattro system is the same on the Phaeton, so, should I assume that it can also easily be fixed.
View 3 RepliesI seem to have oil leaking from my front differential. The oil seem to be leaking from where the axle comes out of the differential.
View 2 Replies2005 Subaru 2.5 Limited Outback. If I drive my Outback for over an hour, when I make sharp turns at a low speed in a parking lot my front end doesn't seem to turn right. As a I turn it seems like maybe the front differential is not working right, both wheels want to spin a the same rate. what could cause this?

Ok so I'm not sure what is causing the noise I'm hearing. its a humming that I think is coming from the front differential but I'm not sure, maybe it is the transfer case but it certainly feels like its in the front end and my steering does seem affected while in four wheel drive. It only makes the noise while in four wheel drive.
I have one off size tire on the rear end and I'm not sure if the actual tread circumference is the same between the front and rear tires or if any of this would really cause my four wheel drive to act up. I am planning on putting a new set of matched tires on it soon, so if they are the cause of the problem then that's good news.
I changed the front differential oil a few moths ago, and now it is leaking oil pretty bad from the axle seals. I think I may have over filled it. The level plug sits quite high on the differential, but that was where i figured i had better fill it to. is this the correct level? If not, how do i set the level correctly. I would like to make sure i have the level correct before I start ripping the entire housing out to replace the seals, and then have to do it all over again because I put to much oil back in it again! if it is correct. Then i have a big job ahead of me. and yes, i did check the vent hose to make sure it is venting properly. that would have been to easy.

View 1 RepliesWorking on a 2004 Ford F150 4.6L. No 4x4. Replaced both IWE front actuators. (Neither one would hold vacuum). Still no 4x4. I realize I have vacuum issues and may be excessive wear on gear teeth of the front wheel bearings. The issue that really bothers me is the front differential. Having placed the truck on jack stands and running in 4x4 should both front wheels be turning ? The right front wheel turns and the left front does not move. Is this normal or should I pull the front differential cover off ?
View 7 RepliesThought I would try and fill up the front. Diff well not as easy as the rear diff. They make a special hose or some thing. To put in the bottle so u can get some Gear oil in ?
View 3 RepliesMy front differential is leaking. Are there any special Ford tools required to replace the seal? Or is it simply bolt (and fluid) removal, seal replacement, fill with new fluid. Any tips or heads-up on this?
